if i want to capture old VHS tapes, how much less quality would I get using the white elgato rca from a vcr, (without upscaling) to capture (i use virtualdub) huffyuv raw, then compress after, usually 480p-ish, instead of upscaling, vs runnign through the hdmi elgato and feeding it in upscaled? e.g. i was told the white elgato for vhs capture is probably the best way to go, and understand normally upscaling is causing a loss, but your saying it has good color definition, and cool that it converts it to progressive. I’m going to try on my MacBook Air which doesn’t have Big Sur to see what happens.
Toss that composite to HDMI converter, really nice way of degrading your image quality, instead get a proper capture card and have everything sent to avisynth where you have full control over the deinterlacing process and so on.
Thanks for the tip!
Already has one anyway. You use a dongle in the port to capture composite or S-Video on the Game Capture HD in this video, the port is visible at 3:44 next to the HDMI input.
help what if i use the s-video port how would i get audio?
You'd still need to use the red and white audio cables via the AV converter
Tbh, I found the video quality differences were minimal and it was just far easier to stick with the red, white and yellow cables
@@PhaseDriveVlogs From experience on my video8/Hi8 ntsc tapes, s-video is absolutely better.
have you ran into any issues regarding audio/video synchronization? or audio sync drift?
I find offsetting audio by 200ms solves any audio sync issues
