I made a few modifications to the lens. First I took off the screw mount by loosening the three screws at the back and reassembled it in a position so that the scales for focus and aperture are in the upright position, when the lens is mounted to the camera. Then I opened the aperture all the way and put a mark on the adapter by scratching off the black color right at the position where the 1.7 number is. When you then turn the aperture ring, you can see to which number the aperture is closed. The third modification is inside the lens, when you set the focus to the nearest position then a silver colored tube is visible on the back which could make inner reflections inside the lens. To minimize this, I painted the tube with black matte color which is used in modelling and available in this tiny containers. The lens has a 35 mm filter thread and I bought also a lens hood for this. The hood has a front thread of 46 mm and on this I screwed a circular polarizing filter. With this modifcations the contrast of the lens is greatly improved by preserving all its character. The best results come out when the lens is stopped down a bit to approx. 4. But this is not a problem at all, because the character of the lens is not archived mainly by depth of field but by the really bad field curvature, which means that even stopped down it is never possible to get sharpness from edge to edge. That makes it a wonderful portrait lens and the bokeh swirls like crazy. When the flaring is too much it also helps to block the incoming light with a hand outside of the frame. Just experiment with it and have fun!

Why use that trash upscaler and potentially ruin the picture if you can rely on the elgato to capture the footage in hogh quality as is and then process it if you need to?

The Elgato uses the Diamond chipset, you can get the Diamond video capture card for less. The IO Data GV-USB2 is better.

Heyyyyyy I know this is way after your original video post… but I’m messing with the 25mm, 35mm, and 50mm versions of this lens, and I figured out the filter size. The 25mm filter size is 30mm, the 35mm and 50mm size is 35mm. I’m using step up rings to get them to 37mm, and then I use a 37mm variable ND. These are annoying to use… but I love the image quality, so dreamy

The normalization feature of Spotify is -14 LUFS. if you turn it off you get what the song was delivered at. Which most of songs today are being delivered to Spotify at -9 / -8 LUFS.. the normalization feature is just to keep all songs to same level, example if you have a song from the 70's and the 80's they will both play back at -14 LUFS with the normalization feature engaged. But with it not engaged you can clearly hear songs today are being mastered to -9 / -8 LUFS and that is what all professional mastering engineers are still doing especially with Rock, Pop, Hip Hop & Country. So your songs still need to be at least -9 LUFS.. Check yourself, when you disengage normalization a song from today will increase to it's delivered volume.. So please delivered your streams mastered at least -9LUFS (NO PROFESSIONAL ROCK, HOP HOP, POP OR COUNTRY SONGS ARE BEING MASTERED TO -14LUFS) -14 LUFS is not a delivery standard, it's just a normalization feature to have songs from every decade play back at the same level. If you turn it off all songs will be at there delivered volume. Thanks 🙂🙂🙂

Im not sure what you guys are on about. I bought this Hans Zimmer piano because of this video but it is a regret of mine. I would rather get The Giant now if I could go back... This Piano is very bad. Even Hans Zimmer himself reviewed this piano as bad quality. Just a company trying to use his name to get sales. Sound nearly like a free piano VST and for 200 bucks this is overpriced. I would understand if it was 50 bucks. But nothing more than that...

Hi, not all cctv lens produce enough image circle size to cover m4/3 sensor size with good definition. My hypothesis for tiny lenses (c, cs mount, m12 mount, bridge camera lenses) is that the shorter focal distance, the less image sensor size!

Thanks for a very interesting video. I was interested to see how well the 28mm worked. I echo your thoughts on cheap legacy lenses. I have a collection ( a far too big one!) of old glass, sometimes only paying £15 or less for a lovely lens and will get one of the Pixco adapters soon to try out.

Can you help me, I purchased one but I don’t know if there’s something wrong with the c mount or lens itself. It works sometimes but not all the time, it says on the screen to check if the lens is attached even though it is. Is there a reason why it’s doing it? I have it on my Lumix GH1

hey. i tried this a few months ago, and i remember us running into a problem where the audio wouldn't record. the most likely reason is because we were using a mac laptop, which does not support using this capture card on obs, and instead requires me to use the "game capture" software to record. we're gonna try again here soon, this time on a windows desktop so we can use obs. is this likely the problem? or am i doing something else wrong?

I’ve also noticed Disney+ allow the “imax enhanced” for many of their films for streaming only. It’s as if they want you to stream/pay the subscription monthly fee, since the 4K UHD version is a normal cropped out top/bottom black bars. Shame how companies such as Disney can purposely do this

you can find astroimages in astrobin done with this lens.. astrophotography is by far the most demanding thing regarding sharpness and this lens performs quite good there.. maybe you have a defective one.

if i want to capture old VHS tapes, how much less quality would I get using the white elgato rca from a vcr, (without upscaling) to capture (i use virtualdub) huffyuv raw, then compress after, usually 480p-ish, instead of upscaling, vs runnign through the hdmi elgato and feeding it in upscaled? e.g. i was told the white elgato for vhs capture is probably the best way to go, and understand normally upscaling is causing a loss, but your saying it has good color definition, and cool that it converts it to progressive. I can use yadif deinterlace when i compress the 480pixel capture in my first suggestion. So is there a benefit from using the hdmi converter and upscaling to 1080p vs a 480 sized video and let VLC upscale it? By the way, i play these across the LAN, with file sharing, using VLC as the playback method, so VLC can upscale it for me, when i set it to full screen.

Question - there's 2 for sale locally here, this exact model and an older hitachi ultravision 3dlp (native 720p). older but would have been about 4grand back in 2006 or so.. both 200 bux.. any idea what would be better?

Can you connect the camera to the av in with just a cable that is s-video to composite? Or do you really need the upscaller?

You shared great information about the GH5, and all your footage looks awesome and very cinematic.

There is something very uncanny about that footage of a perfectly stable hi8 footage. It would make a cool platform to base a short film around.

How about Die Hard HDR on 4K disc vs streaming Die Hard 4K Dolby Vision on Disney+, is the disc any better?

Here's the thing though, these seroes might be released to 4K disc is there was enough popularity and thereby money to be made from the format. Unfortunately, it looking as it 4K blu-ray disc will be the last in physical media for movies and series.

If you're technically capturing in 16:9 and squishing it to 4:3, isn't that not as faithful?

It may seem a silly question, but: My wife has a 720p projector, and would like upgrade to 1080p as we have lots of movies of that format on SD Cards and USB sticks as well as SSD cards. So, the question is ... What is the maximum capacity USB drive that can be plugged in? I have approx 200GB of movies stored.

How's the vignetting on this one? I have a similar 25mm 1.4 but the vignetting is so bad it's unusable. This one doesn't look too bad.

I bought an epsom a few years ago 3000 ansi lumens. They are great projectors but much more expensive. I decided to buy a portable projector for convenience and learned one thing, once you’ve had a real deal home theater projector these budget ones just suck! They really only work casting a smaller image at a closer distance once you hit 100 inches or so the image fades considerably. My Epsom can cast a 350 inch image and is brighter than the budget protector at 60 inches. Thought I’d add to the conversation sometimes it’s just better to save for something better.

i dont have a 4k tv or 4k bluray discs but i still play 1080p blurays and 1080p tv.
