Gotta say Ab, you sure have introduced lots of lighting and modifier set ups Ive never seen used before. Great results too and inspires me to get more creative with my own set ups 👍
One more setup to try. What I like the most about your videos is, they are not just base lighting recipes, the open up our mind to different ways to use light. And that, I really love!
The double umbrellas in front of the large roll diffusion….I’m using that for a large still life project. Great idea and I have the gear to get it done. Thanks AB!
Honestly, you make the best lighting videos in the entire Internet that open up to a world of possibilities. You show that it is not to only way to put a softbox or two lights with reflectors etc. somewhere and take pictures. Your videos definitely creates excitement of seeing how things can be done other ways beyond the horizon of convention. You absolutely encourage to think and do differently. Thank you.
I like the way you and Seth Miranda create inventive ways to modify and to control light. An inspiration to think outside the box. Really cool. You guys are my Jimi Hendrix of lighting.
so glad to see new content from you, Ab. Hitting the Thumbs Up button literally at timestamp 0:01 😄 Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge for free. Beautiful model, amazing shots. And - your way of narrating has very much improved, much more relaxed now - way to go!
I picked up some painter's drop sheets at the dollar store to use for isolating an area I was sanding in my home. When I unpacked them I decided to treat them gently and save them as possible diffusion sheets. $3 each for 8' x 12' thin soft to the touch plastic that is foggy, not clear. Worth a try to determine if I'd prefer more or less light transmission before or if ever I commit to buying commercial photography diffusion. I'm doing occasional work that's on location in dusty workshops.
All your videos are really interesting, a bit beyond scope but full of nuggets I try to file away for the future when they might be in-scope. For example, the cutting a hole in the diffusion, which was a really interesting yet straight-forward solution for a particular effect. Definitely keeping that :) And the simpler double umbrella through diffusion is certainly something I can try out sometime!
Ab. That was super cool. Never though to use a diffusion roll quite like that. Brilliant. The front view of your talking head portion was pretty dark, exposure-wise, for me though. Just as an FYI.
Again, another excellent video. Love your creativity. Must be fun trying all these new setups!!! (BTW, the link for the Kupo G900712 4-Way Clamp for 1.4-2.0" Tube, 66.14 lbs Maximum Load Capacity is incorrect.)
The second look is easy to accomplish on a budget. Feel free to swap out any photeck umbrellas for the least expensive you can find. Feel free to cut a bed sheet in half and hang it from a Light stand and grip arm and use any two strobes with umbrella mounts. speedlights would work as well. From my experience sometimes a bedsheet can act more as bounce than diffusion, but test, and see what results you get. A shower curtain can work as well.
Gotta say, i feel a huge amount of trust about lighting when the talking head portion looks like it was pulled from a Roger Deakins film. Kudos!!!
Thank you so much. I really appreciate the feedback.
I did like the lighting produced in the first example and the umbrellas lighting the scrim also.
Thank you very much for the input Edward

Always dropping gems Ab! Great video.
Thank you.
This is definitely useful - just wondering if you have suggestions for using a large diffusion cloth in a small studio. Thanks!
What size studio do you have. Option 2 would work virtually any size studio.
Ab, all I can say is…🤯
You have definitely inspired me to think in LEVELS.
Thank you so much, Joseph. Equally as inspired by your feedback.
Thank you, Ab. I was wondering if we can use a shower curtain for a budget option. Your set up is brilliant and certainly adds depth to portrait.

Wow!! Cool Fuji GFX btw
Thank you.
This is definitely useful!!! Thank you.
Thank you Randy.
In the top light scenario would you get a similar result by just bouncing into the ceiling and keeping the spot as it is?
ie not using the scrim. I suspect the distance fall off would be nicer with the scrim but wanted to ask
Thank you for the video.Very inspiring. I'm gonna try it.
Thank you Silvina
Ab is top level!
Thank you.

Great video brother. What about a budget route that equipment you have is beautiful but... $$$$

Hi Ab, in the set up with 2 umbrellas what kind of roll diffusion did you use? Is it a frost? Good job and thanks for sharing!
High Milla it's full grid cloth as well.
It's definitely useful! 🙂👍
Great to here from you Melani. How have you been?

Hope you didn't pay to much for a vice grip you can get at a home depot. Good use and excellent advice as always though.
Thank you for the feedback, Tim. I definitely paid more than and Home depot vice grip, but well work it. LOL!
Cheap solution is of diffusion Satin White cloth or Architects Gateway paper
Great Tip Mint del. Never heard of using the Architects Gatwya paper.
