@1958slp well as someone who cleans constantly, I am also a nurse and know how difficult mental health problems can impact people so maybe show some compassion and let go of the judging!

I have watched "Hoarders" for years and they are individuals that suffer from BPD and narcissism. They are completely selfish. The ones that have children are the dregs of society.
Cleaning this up is very nice and very brave. I’ll bet staying overnight in it, in the dark, would be braver 😮

They had absolutely no respect before .and this act isn’t going too change anything . They will still be the exact same.

To be truthful, I am starting to wonder about who the owners are for all of these cleans. The furniture, the rooms, the surfaces, all have a "sameness", and I am wonering what we are seeing.....

No thank you. To start off, I would never let my house get into such a state and also they throw out so much stuff that could easily be washed and kept. And I would nver want anyone going through private papersor my clothes. But they do do a good job.
Depression is a helluva drug.
You do understand that they are probably bonded and would not be likely to examine the belongings of their clients. I would take their help in a heartbeat if I needed it.

You can't spray the floor, wipe it and pretend it's clean, i deep cleaned my room and it took me a few days do finish it properly, and it was only dusty !

they are not too lazy to go and buy a ton of stuff and food...but too lazy to clean their own homes. Especially horrible if they have children...no child should grow up in that filth. I bet within 3 mts it will be filthy again.

I smelled that cigarette smoke through my computer. Yuck! I've clean a college, a high school, and some dirty houses, but they never got that bad. I need to go to Japan learn somethings from these guys.

I think you're WAY wrong. How in the name of all that's holy could you "stage" a kitchen or a bathroom this nasty? Just because you can't wrap your head around it doesn't make it any less real.

……are these videos’ of REAL peoples’ messy homes’, or just ‘sets’ made up? If true, how did the people walk around the house? How do they cook in the kitchen? How did they cleanse, & dress themselves’ in that mess?

Hygiene is a serious problem for those dealing with depression and things do get out of control easily. Once a home is in this state, they will continue to sink into deeper depression. They will isolate and not have anyone over because of judgement and embarrassment yet no energy or desire to clean. However, I do question this video. No bugs, no vermin, and the food didn't have mold. This was a "clean" mess.

I understand exactly what you’re saying, & it sadly is the way of life for those who suffer depression. So insidious a problem, creeping into peoples’ lives’………
They don't cook (they buy take-out or outside prepared food), their bathrooms are usually not working so they can't wash at home properly (they usually refuse to let plumbers etc in to make repairs), and they stink, badly, of whatever the house smells of. They likely dress from the same small pile of clothes or just keep buying new ones then discarding them. I saw a video where a woman with small kids just kept buying them new clothes rather than wash them. The dirty ones ended up in sacks in the garage, hundreds and hundreds of them. These people are not functional in the main.
Sometimes the person could have mental health issues, but they could also have a physical illness or disability that keeps them from maintaining their home. Or they could be so focused on caring for another person that keeping their own place tidy is just too overwhelming (caregiving is EXHAUSTING). Very good work from this team, and I hope they were able to give this person the fresh start they needed.
