Jean Stapleton was a brilliant actress and she played Edith Bunker to pure perfection. She brought warmth, love, wisdom and compassion in this character who was married to a complex character like Archie.
Me too. I remember the first time I ever saw a plate of Home Pride bread. I was quite young, so I started looking around for butter or something. But Grandma puts down turkey & stuffing. Me [softly to my mom]: "What is the bread for?'' She explained some people eat it with their meal. Me: "But.....why? With butter, you mean?" LOL My mom never served bread like that, ever.
When Edith passed away was the saddest time on television I'd ever seen😢 . I know that it was just a character in a television show, but still I cried!!! Great actress!! R.I.P Jean and Carroll.
0:42 Louise's face is hilarious! She looks like she's thinking, "Don't ask. Do NOT ask. I DON'T want to know where else Archie Bunker is ticklish." 😯 😂
Rest in peace and 100th birthday wishes to Jean Stapleton 1. 19 I have always felt Ms Stapleton understood the impression she was making to the young people who watched her, especially girls. Edith was in love so she was happy. When it was necessary for her to take a stand, she did not hesitate. Edith Bunker was designed to be a positive example of her generation, she did it well. Jean Stapletons Edith will always prove love works and naivety could never be devoid of intelligence
I'v always loved 'Edith' ! ...Her love was so real due to her excellent skills as an actress . I could very easily believe that our beloved 'Edith' really existed somewhere ! .....We should only be that lucky ! ....🥰 sted
@Sharon Jacobs thank you for sharing. We are lucky Ms. Stapletons skill is recorded for us to enjoy. ME TV will show her again on Sunday nights at 8 Enjoy
Very beautifully said. She brought Edith to life, made her believable, admired and loved by generations. Jean was a brilliant actress and I have the honor of sharing her birthday!
@@shellyscolaro7422 Yes, it was! Jean Stapleton -- an accomplished character actress! Best in her meme! The TV show "AITF" kept me glued to the TV set in the 1970's, on Saturday evenings. "Carol Burnett" would follow, then (mid-1970's) "Saturday Night Live" (the original cast). Such enjoyable times! Thanks!
@@NiecieSavo I know DAMNED WELL what the word "under-rated"means. I did NOT hatch out of the egg yesterday! Before "All in the Family", Jean Stapleton --- a brilliant character actress --- was hardly known. Although, she certainly deserved to be known, she had not many defining roles. By calling her "under-rated", I only implied that Jean Stapleton did not receive the recognition and plaudits her brilliant skills deserved. When "All in the Family" debuted, Jean Stapleton was in her middle-to-late forties. It took way too long for her to receive the defining role that made her a "household name" in the profession. Don't try to lecture me that I don't know what "UNDER-RATED" means!
"GET THE HELL OUT'A THE WAY" ! ! ...😲.....that's what we all heard (neighbors included) when anyone dared to stand or pass in front of the t.v. when "All in the Family" was on ! Grandpa waited all week to watch his favorite show. He's passed on years ago, but whenever I watch clips like this, all those memories come back again...I miss ya Gramps ! ...😥
Caroll O'Conner played a character so different to himself. Rob Riener is very much Meathead even 'til today. He's the Poster Child for impulsive behavior disguised as progressive thought. They are quite funny together though.
Anyone know the name of the episode in which Edith and Gloria were talking in the kitchen about where to give a celebratory dinner for Mike's graduation and Edith suggested that Mike invite his professor to the house to meet the entire family but Gloria knowing that Archie would have conservative views compared to Mike's more-liberal professor told Edith "It would be like Albert Einstein trying to have a conversation with Fred Flintstone" and Edith feels offended and then says that the dinner can be called off completely and she will bring the prepared food to the seniors at the old folks home where she volunteers and who will appreciate it. Then Edith leaves the room saying to Gloria, "I guess if you are ashamed of your father, you are ashamed of me too." That is one scene I like.
The reason why All In The Family appealed to me even as an 8 year old kid was Edith’s cartoonish personality. I loved Archie’s dry humor and sarcasm as well.
Archie and Edith both children of the Great Depression. Both have their faults as judged by today's standard yet both personality types were necessary to adapt to the hardships of the time. I just adore Edith as she is an endearing mother and wife, almost impossible to find today. Everybody hates Archie, he is a product of tough times. Progressive thought often paints him into a corner, yet those issues create more questions than answers. Watching these clips bring nostalgia Big Time.
A thing that's great about Archie's character and honestly makes me feel bad for him is he's actually more open minded than people give him credit for. He's mainly stuck in the times of what he dealt with as a child and says ignorant things but you see he isn't closed off. There's a scene in the sequel series where he punches his Lodge brother for using the "N" word, the scene crafts it in a way that you can interpret it in any way and I chose to believe that he did it due to the disrespect that was given to his friend. There are things I don't like about Archie but I don't think he's irredeemable, he just needs to learn how his actions and words actually hurt people instead of being yelled at constantly that it does by a meathead.
I liked the Beverly LaSalle episode. And Edith was always so cheerful. When Beverly told Edith she was a trans…Edith had duh moment then Ooohhhhhh!😂 But my absolute favorite moment is when she is going through the change and telling Archie to STIFLE!
One of my favorite Edith quotes was ... Archie: What's the Bible doing there on top of the Tv? Edith (completely innocently): Because it kept falling off the refrigerator. LOLOLOLOLOL!
Thank You so much for this wonderfully hilarious post. Not only is it a marvelous composition, but the way you structured it, with an explanation of the episodes, such perfect order. Your editing and opening scene was so professional. I loved the ones you chose . Thank You again M

How Carroll O'Connor kept his composure during the cling peaches story will forever be a mystery. Greatness on the part of both actors!
I love when he finds out about Linda and lionel
@@jonas2431that was a good one
I love her referring to them as a "can of mmm hmmm"!

The key to Edith's hilarious moments is her complete innocence and naivete when it comes to complicated social matters.

The Stifle one always kills me
I loved Jean Stapleton she was amazing strong lady and she was an amazing actress. love her compassion. We need more people like Edith in this world
Bread stacked vertically on a plate….just like that, I’m back at my grandparents’ table.
