- Опубликовано: 11 мар 2008
- The ardent segregationist Judge Leander Perez ran Plauqemines Parish, Louisiana with an iron hand for fifty years. Here he tussles with William F. Buckkey Jr in 1968 over some of his more extreme racial views. From the documentary "The Ends of the Earth: Plaquemines Parish Louisiana" by Louis Alvarez and Andrew Kolker at www.cnam.com.

Perez was an Isleño, people descended from Canary Islanders sent to Louisiana under Spanish rule. Hispanic is not a race but means of Spanish speaking heritage.
He was basically a dictator.
That’s the only reason he was taken seriously by the ruling elite.
Huey Long was removed by the NYC yidMafia for similar reasons.
Great man. Thank You Leander Perez for going on that CIA rats TV show Buckley and 55 years before it happened
*Leander Called these Marxist Hollywood DC Beltway Scumbags out for the traitors and usurpers they are* on national television.
Thank You Mr Perez!
And rightfully so, Catholic schools volunteered to integrate(we're all God's children, which is why I don't believe in racism). He tried to shut it down, so he got what was coming.
What Bob Lobrano is describing has a very Romanesque tone. Beer, barbecue, and bands. It has striking similarities to the panem et circenes(bread and circus) of the Roman Empire.
He was excommunicated.
And rightly so.
@@TheGeoScholar Supposedly, his excommunication was revoked as he had his funeral in a Catholic Church in New Orleans.
@@villanovakid84 Only because he made a retraction.
@@TheGeoScholar Retraction of what? Not his stand on segregation. Are you from Plauqemines Parish ?
Excellent journalism
It wasn't just Perez and the Isleno community. Many Mexicans, Tejanos, Cubans, and other Spanish Americans were equally racist as Perez in those day.
This is the irony of "Latino" history. They used to say that they were white.
forgottenlatinohistory.blogspot.com/
William Ventura That's because they were white! Spain is in Europe, they are Mediterranean whites, like the Italians and Greeks. However I do agree that his racism was deplorable.
@Placidus Eustathius You are a liar. His ancestors are from the Canary islands.
@thekingofmoney2000 everyone can pull that goddamn card. There is reason it doesn't work. Even if people didn't have a spik of black or Indian blood, one move to Texas and this precious argument is shut down.
He wasn't Latino. Spaniards are Europeans. Northern Spaniards are as "white" as any other European. The north was never conquered by the Arabs. Cortez and Ponce De Leon were redheads with blue and green eyes. Probably descended from Gauls.
Latino/Hispanic literally means anybody with a Spanish surname or of Spanish or Spanish-Speaking origin. He is that.
He is part of the "Latino" history that people don't want to tell today.
forgottenlatinohistory.blogspot.com/
Geoffrey Eustis What do you consider most Puerto Ricans? Having majority Spanish blood? How about myself what would you consider me?
Geoffrey Eustis they are still latinos since they are descended from a latin ish speaking people
Dumbass he is a Louisiana-Spanish Creole 🇪🇸 which are Hispanics! French-Creoles are Franco-Latino 🇫🇷 and Italian-Creoles are Italiphone-Latinos 🇮🇹. The Americas are Latinos including (North America!) Us Louisiana don't fit into Anglo (English) America. You have a lot to learn son
@@ninpobudo3876 I am all of the above and proud.
The following is to add onto what you said for anyone that doesn't know.
As far as skin color goes, Latinos, Hispanics, and Creoles can be pale, very dark, and anywhere in between.
My own skin changes depending on sun exposure. For the majority of my life, I would not have been able to pass the paper bag test. Now that I am inside more than not, I could be considered passe blanc.
All Hispanics come from Spain. Hence the word Hi"Spain"ic.
I'm pretty sure Italians are known as "Latin" lovers.
my dad said some how were related
Where's the clash with Buckley? That kindly Firing Line introduction? Gimme a break
@fabcuts why? He was of Spanish decent, from Spain...Spaniards are white, if they aren't white, then neither are the French...
Nah spanish are brown lol
I'm glad I was born in the 1980s. No Jim Crow for me. Anyone who is in favor of Jim Crow coming back or is in favor of Leander Henry "Judge" Perez is a threat to me. Jim Crow was harmful to Black people and I'm glad it's long gone.
Gone?!?!?!
@@mcjaguilar8667Jim Crow is over and gone. And that is for the best.
@@TheGeoScholar then let it be so
@mcjaguilar8667 My point was that it is over and gone, and I am happy. I'm happy to be born in the 1980s for that reason.
I live in phoenix this guy is worse than Joe arpaio
Much worse indeed.
He was a segregationist.
So were most all people in the South. What else is new?
Indeed he was. One reason I have no respect for Perez. I look at all segregationists as bad. I'm not a segregationist, so I don't have any respect for Leander Perez.
@Free speech Free thought We are talking about Leander Perez, so no bringing in red herrings. Again, why should I have any respect for a segregationist like Leander H. Perez? What would said segregationist have done for me?
@Free speech Free thought You still didn't answer my question. Why should I have respect for the likes of people like Leander Perez or any of the other Jim Crow segregationists? What's in it for me? We're not talking about the Aztecs or Mayans so stay on topic.
@Free speech Free thought So what?
My elders remember this bigot. They remember when Spanish-Americans were white.
A lot of people today ask "What was the role of hispanics/latinos in the civil rights movement?"
*This* was the "hispanic" role in the civil rights movement. LOL
Tritone A part of it yes.... and?
@rr rr Today, people of Spanish origin are considered minorities - the largest minority group. The irony of that is striking considering that they used to be white.
@rr rr In practice, the whitest Cuban in the world is considered to be minority today - on the same level as black people. They even get called "people of color" and qualify for affirmative action preferences and minority business grants.
Never heard of white non Hispanic you idiot it’s on the census!
That SOB sure hoodwinked all you people down there.
Hispanic is not a race. Only Americans use the it as a race. Hispanic could be anyone who speaks Spanish. However originally the term meant anyone from Hispania, which is the region of south western Europe that forms Portugal and Spain. There is never such a thing "too much hate"
VERY WRONG. Just because someone speaks Spanish does not make them Hispanic. Just like not speaking Spanish makes someone descended from Hispanic parents makes them not Hispanic. According to your reasoning, everyone can change their ethnicity by using Duolingo. I don't think so. That's not how this works. The truth is in your DNA, not your words.

@BLM is the new KKK The links aren't really there for you specifically. I shared them for anyone interested in learning more about Leander. However, you apparently were sheltered and didn't learn much other than the same racist hatred he spewed. As for your ancestry, I never mentioned it. Nor did I report anything. I want people to see what type of person you are. I don't need to point out your racism. You're doing just fine on your own.
Awful human being. So corrupt he made EWE look straight as an arrow
Agreed. Leander Perez was a racist dictator.
Leander Perez and Francisco Franco were godlike spaniards
He seemed like a very nice man.
He wasn't.
@@ErinFrught Really? Did you ever meet him? I watched his interview with Buckley [ Firing Line] and he seemed congenial, although, I didn't agree with some of this views
@@villanovakid84 He personally held a gun to the head of one of my ancestors and robbed her of the deeds to our family land. He then took the deeds to the courthouse and changed them into his name. He was a dirty SOB. Feel free to Google what I said. Cross search his name a Buras Land.
Here. I'll make it easy for you. Watch the entire video and pay attention. Our case was proven in court but the Parish refuses to give us what is rightfully ours. www.theadvertiser.com/story/news/local/louisiana/2014/07/18/family-seeks-justice-stolen-mineral-rich-lands/12839683/
Some of our family members were murdered too. Do you still think he was a nice man?
He was great, except he stole a lot of land from people.
Long live sir leander perez legacy
Judge Perez was a wise man. To bad politicans these days aren't like him. I am from Plaquemines Parish.
Are you serious? I think you have some homework to do.
@Token White Man
Your response makes no sense. You are just looking for a fight. What makes you think that what I said aren't my own thoughts? I have proof to back up everything I've said. I honestly don't believe you read anything I said. Do you have anything intelligent to say?
No he wasn't. He was a corrupt, bigoted politician. He ran Plaquemines Parish like a dictatorship.
Big W
My whole family is from the new orleans area, including some who still live in St Bernard Parish. Judge Perez was an embarrassment and is part of the reason St Bernard and Plaquemines are stagnant, underdeveloped places today, even though some great, hardworking people live there
