    Pretty concise and straight to the point instructions. Just bought mine. I just hope it works for my Singapore set top box. Since I've already have Plex server running on my Synology, I think I might as well run it on my Plex Live TV. My main intention is to watch my local TV station remotely even when I'm travelling. Previously, I had the Slingbox Pro and the installation of it was not just tedious but watching channels was quite a hassle.
    HDHomerun looks like it's a way better option. From the installation aspects of it to changing channels. And it looks like the coaxial connection would be easier too since my STB has a Moca antenna outlet.
    So I'm excited for my box to arrive and hopefully it works for my channel provider set top box here in Singapore.

    Thanks for the Video. Very helpful.
    One comment for UK newbies using Plex v1.40 on DSM7: In Plex Live TV & DVR setup, if you get the error message "We couldn't find Plex DVR guide data for your location at this time," enter only the first part of your postcode, not the full postcode. For example, if you enter E17 4XX, enter only E17.

I’m just wondering, if I’m running Plex from my MacBook (I don’t have an NAS server) would the MacBook need to be switched on to record programs? Or once they have been scheduled will they record regardless as long as the hd home run is powered and connected to the internet?

    I am a little upset that my HD Homerun Pime will not accept an antenna signal! My current home system is nice with cableCARD but this is getting phased out from my service provider. So I'll get a duo and since I already have a linux plex server, this should work better.
    Also this is a great primer. Thanks...

    I'm in the USA trying to do a setup like this for my family. I have a basic understanding of all this but none too complex.
    For the amplifier, you still have an antenna outside connected to the amplifier, which goes into the Homerun product, is that right?
    And then the ethernet goes into the switch so it can provide the captured channels via antenna to whatever is connected to the switch? Like multiple tv's around the house?
    Also trying to setup a Plex media server and digitize our media collection so it seems like your setup is very close to what I need.

    amazing video, a few things caught my interest. the 12 way distribution amplifier? what does that do exactly? and also i noticed when in plex dvr setup on the drop down there was sky sd channels? what would those have consisted of? there are a few lifestyle and religious channels i’m curious of because they are only available through sky as far as i’m aware

    • @TheComputerLab
      @TheComputerLab  3 года назад +1

      Hey - The 12 aerial distribution, is simply a way to send one aerial input out to 12 more TV,S around the house. I haven’t used the sky channels but to get SKY normally you will need either a satellite or use sky over a streaming service (although there are a couple of sky channels on terrestrial tv)

    OK, unboxed my Quatro and started Plex install of DVR on my Synology. As in your video, it is found Automatically. Antenna is greyed out but showing 156 channels. However, I do not get a channel list on the right. I have an additional box for postal code and a link to 'Have an XML TV Guide, click here to use it'. I must enter my post code to continue, when I do so, the next screen is 'Use an XML Guide'! I can choose 'Dont use XML, click here to use location instead' ... when I do this, United Kingdom is selected, but I have to insert my postcode to continue once more and it immediately states "We couldn't find Plex DVR guide data for your location at this time. Please select a different location or use an XMLTV guide."!!!! I have restarted plex on the synology, but it just repeats this over and over again. Any ideas?

    Can you tell me why I can pull only one channel live into Plex when I have the antenna picking up 40+? Granted it is just a coax with a coat hanger, but all of the locals that are supposed to come in, do...and on the same device you are using. I can watch all of them through the SD app with no problems. I'm 10 miles away from the towers, and can run coax from my Samsung with a splitter and a couple of paper clips in it with no problems. WTF am I doing wrong? SD is the latest firmware and until last night I was current in Plex. I had the same problem when I used my RP4 as the server. but I upgraded to the Synology 920+ for a more powerful setup. I tried to run it to a Firestick 4K and the Samsung app on my Q90 set. Same problem. it plays all of my movies and such without a hiccup 90 tv.

    • @TheComputerLab
      @TheComputerLab  3 года назад

      Hey Owen - Not sure why you can only see one channel on live, especially considering you can see all channels in the Homerun app. There are 2 live TV options in the left toolbar - 1 for “live TV on Plex” the other is Live TV & DVR - the Live Tv and DVR is the one that shows all the channels. Also do you have Plex premium as that is needed also.

    Cat5e cable because it's only a 100mb network connection. Anything more than the cat5e would be a total waste.

    • @TheComputerLab
      @TheComputerLab  3 года назад

      Whilst I agree the HDHomeRun is only 100 base TX (100mb) For future proofing and if you are installing in a new network I would all ways spec 1000mb network and use Cat6 cables.

    • @chris_schenkel
      @chris_schenkel 3 года назад

      @@TheComputerLab You're talking about connecting a device to a switch or a wall drop. There is no future proof here. Just stupidity. A 100mb connection requires nothing more than a cat5 cable. Period. I suppose this was your attempt at saving face for your confusion regarding the supplied cable. It didn't work. You probably didn't even realize that the device was only 100mb capable when you bought it until I brought it to your attention. Pitiful. I won't be back.
