A good way to use a jerkshad is with a topwater. If the reds are blowing up on topwater, follow right behind it with the jerkshad, using the topwater as a search bait.

They are waiting for the water to warm up, and the sun to be up, and the bait to start getting active. But always factor in your tide (high), and even moon phase.
you actually do find tailing trout, and mud rings from trout feeding on the bottom. Very common in south FL off flat channels
