Okay, we forgot to tell you to put on the closed captions. Geoff sometimes puts in humor there. If you watch the last run again, you will see that.
Even when he doesn't use humor, his captions are very descriptive. His wife, Kathy suffers from severe/profound hearing loss. He makes the captions descriptive to enhance the experience for the hearing impaired.
This was my Geoff gateway drug. A friend sent me the link and I have been hooked ever since. I found Voiceplay almost immediately.
Geoff is not the lowest bass voice out there, but the quality of his voice is so beautiful, so clear, that it exceeds the talent of all the others. In my opinion, which of course, is the only correct one.
His most recent, Till Then, he said he was trying for the sound of a grizzly bear singing a lullaby. The one he has coming out in a week or so is astounding!
    Thanx for the ride!

It's actually quite ironic that your birds started chirping while watching this. Reason being that miners would take a canary down into the mines and so long as the bird was making a noise the miners knew that it was safe to be down there. As soon as it stopped they knew the cavern was filling with toxic gas and had to get out. Just an ironic observation.

The Voiceplay lineup from 2017 to 2020 was: Earl Elkins Jr. High Tenor, Eli Jacobson Second Tenor, Jesse Nunn III (stage name JNone) Baritrone, Geoff Castelllucci Bass, and Layne Stein Beatboxing/Vocal Percussion (and backup Baritone/Bass… he was the group’s original Baritone). Earl left in 2020 (never officially replaced). JNone left in 2021 to enter the Navy but comes back and performs with VP when he’s on leave. His spot was officially taken by Cesar DeLaRosa. Since VP always performs with at least 5 members, all vids since Earl’s departure have had one or more guest artists (male or female).
The Top VP vids I’d recommend, in order from oldest to newest, would be:
    Tennessee Whiskey (Chris Stapleton cover)
Boy Bands in 5 Minutes (various)
Oogie Boogie’s Song (from Nightmare Before Christmas)
Can’t Help Falling in Love (Elvis Presley cover)
    Warriors (Imagine Dragons)
The Little Mermaid Medley (featuring Rachel Potter)
You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch (featuring Adriana Arellano)
Carry On Wayward Son (Kansas cover, featuring Omar Cardona)
Go The Distance (from Hercules, featuring E.J. Cardona)
My Mother Told Me (featuring Jose Rosario Jr.)
If I Were a Rich man/Girl (from Fiddler on the Roof, featuring Ashley Diane)
Hoist the Colors (featuring Jose Rosario Jr.)
Halo Theme (featuring actor Scott Porter, who was the group’s original Beatboxer)
The Dragonborn Comes (Skyrim, featuring Omar Cardona)
Dream On (Areosmith cover, featuring Omar Cardona)
Nothing Else Matters (Metallica cover, with JNone back as a guest)
In My Room (Beach Boys cover, featuring Deejay Young)

The second half consists of Scott Porter, featured singer but also one of the original founders and threvious beatboxer of the group, explaining the reasons behind that particular video, and giving a glimpse of who they are as human beings...". 🙂
I also would like to add "We don't talk about Bruno", 'cause I Like it a lot, and "Running up that hill", because I loved the Kate Bush version, and even if I never watched "Stranger things" I love the way they referenced to it. 🙂

Geoff truly is a talent who deserves a far wider audience than he currently has. His arrangements are always clever, and make full use of that ridiculous range of his. Btw, I suspect the discrepancy on the 4 octave/5 octave range thing is down to whether you consider his subharmonic notes to be a legitimate part of his range. A subharmonic is basically an illusion; the singer sings a note, and through vocal fry and engaging the false vocal folds the note produced is a full octave lower than the fundamental note being sung. So if Geoff produces a D1 through subharmonics, he's actually singing a D2 but still producing the sound of a D1. It's hard to explain, and I'm probably doing a poor job of it, but there are other (better) sources out there who can explain it far more eloquently than I.
But I wanted to suggest that you check out Geoff's cover of House of the Rising Sun. Not just because it's an amazing arrangement (it is) or because Geoff performs it brilliantly (he does), but because it's likely a song you're familiar with, and you'll really be able to hear what cool twists he puts on that old melody. It's hard to pick up on just how good of an arranger Geoff is when you aren't familiar with the original music. Same line of thinking (and also because it is just one of his best), his cover of Bill Withers' Ain't No Sunshine is simply phenomenal, and will haunt you.

Geoff covers a lot of old, classic songs. And often arranges them with a homage to the best-known versions. Sixteen Tons (about how mining companies paid their workers in private script rather than in real money) was written and originally recorded by Merle Travis in 1946. The most popular version was by Tennessee Ernie Ford in 1958 (Ford had his own TV variety show at the time, I remember it well). Also recorded by other Country artists including Johnny Cash.
Geoff and Voiceplay used to work for Disney at Orlando and on tour. COVID kinda shut everything down, especially touring. He's only been making these solo multitrack vids since that happened. Gotta keep busy.

hahahaha. George? Yes we did notice but we'll let you off. This one is constantly recommended along with VoicePlay's Oogie Boogie Song, but it's not one of my favourites. He sings in so many styles and genres so there are plenty to choose from. Geoff doesn't claim a five octave range but if you include the subharmonics and the occasional falsetto I think it's safe to say that it's a pretty accurate description. His low bass range is still getting deeper and deeper anyway as he works on it, and as he ages. There are plenty of videos out there showing his highest and lowest notes but it's not something I remember offhand.

Geoff and Layne (the beatboxer that swallowed a drum kit and synthesizer -AND has the sweetest singing voice) usually alternate on the arranging, and do the set, costuming, direction and editing also.

He showered with me, took naps with me, loved spaghetti and pizza, and sang the “Charge” theme while doing a mating dance to my toes!!! I loved that bird!! ❤

11:07 | Yeah, when first heard about bass singers I was like, why aten't they in the industry. There are sone examples like Barry White, Josh Turner, Johnny Cash, and others, but they mostly contained low/dramatic baritones, and bass-baritones (Geoff is goated obviously). The likely reason is that because both Basses and Controaltos sing deep and low, that their voices aren't sutiable melodicly and aren't able to sing loud enough live (though Geoff and others have proved otherwise, but with microphones not without them for now). Basses and Contraltos are heavily underrated vocalists.
Also, Baritones and Mezzos need love too.

This was fairly early in his foray into skill work and it was just him and his wife Kathy and a stationary camera.
Their tools were from his dad’s shop and he used them again in his cover of Big Bad John, another mining song. Along with Misty Mountains Cold, he has mining song well represented.
For a fun one, check out his cover of Elvis’s last release, Way Down. He went for humor in that one. As always, be sure to wait until the Patreon rolls. They sometimes put little “Easter eggs” it surprises in there.
Now I’m off to check out your other reactions that I somehow missed.
Subbed. I know you will find plenty of goodness. Can’t wait to see your reaction to DragonBorn. They went all out!🐉
Oh, and add this year’s Halloween offering to your list: Ghost Riders in the Sky. It’s am old Country standard done by a lot of people, but his is unique.

Geoff's range is definitely 5 octaves. But he needs subharmonics to reach the lowest notes, and he can't just sing the full 5 octaves at any time of day. So his comfortable range is 4 octaves, while the lowest notes require a lot of work for him to reach down to the full 5 octaves of his range. He also can go a few notes higher than his recorded highest note, but only on good vocal days, and I don't think he finds them "pretty" enough to use as recorded vocals. He is a bass after all, not a tenor.

  • @jonadabtheunsightly

For studio audio (where multiple takes can be used if needed), Geoff's range runs from A0 up to at least A5, which is, yes, fully five octaves. However, not all of that range is in his modal register, and not all of it is comfortable/convenient/reliable enough for live performances.
If you want to react to comedy stuff, consider (if you aren't already familiar with them) The Gift Basket, Who's on First, Chocolate Cake for Breakfast, or if you're interested in musical comedy, Smells Like Nirvana and/or It's Me Again Margaret.

Geoff is nothing if not modest. On his solo channel, he has a video where he only claims to have a 4 octave range. On the other hand, he also claims to be a baritone with a "good bass extension", whereas a professional bass opera singer states that based on the notes and quality he hears Geoff sing, Geoff is definitely a bass. Plus Geoff is extremely talented at producing sub-harmonics, which could lead people to substantially increase their estimates of his range. I'm not a singer or music professional in any way/shape/form, but personally I think he's a heck of a lot closer to 5 octaves than 4, especially on a good day.
