Hi Rob, I just installed a pegboard in my shop and was hunting RUclips for some tips on organizing and hanging my various tools. Your video is BY FAR the best resource I've found and thank you for that! I never thought about the custom holders idea, but they look great and are super functional. Thanks again for some great ideas! (I subscribed!)
@@TonyDavino Thanks for the sub Tony! I have a bunch of organization videos on the channel and also some videos of the custom tool holders I’ve recently built. Don’t forget to get the talon pegs. Not affiliated with them but they are the best. Thanks for your comment and Good luck with your storage project!
@@DunRovinRanch-1969 I try to make custom holders for things that require them. I try to group things together that are logical (to me anyway). I move things around every once and awhile when I add more tools or make a new custom holders. Also the more space you have available the more organized you can be. I also utilize every organization strategy possible. Tool cabinets, open shelves, pegboard and soon some French cleats. I even have some OSB walls with things held up by screws. Also try to clean up every once and awhile and return everything to its home. I find it more palatable with a couple of ice cold alcoholic beverages. Thanks for your comment and good luck with your new organization! 🍻
Very good video. Any ideas on a good looking herb and spice bottles etc cabinet..???. Thank you very much for sharing your expertise. Appreciate. Hans Strydom. Sandton. South Africa.
@@hansstrydom-yd9bu Hello Hans! Thanks for your comment! I made this spice rack for my wife a couple years ago. ruclips.net/video/cZ_1JvnFmJM/видео.htmlsi=EomQjQIgaCrXQ5X5
the older i get the more i realize ..just screw 1/2" OSB or plywood to the wall.. more versatile less faffing around.. no special rap needed. can attach anything anywhere.. SOme stiff fencing wire is very useful to make hangers with in combo with Lathe screws
A 4x8 sheet of 1/4” pegboard is $34 CDN and 48 assorted Talon hooks are $64. For $100 that’s the best value storage available. Perhaps a little cheaper you can use OSB and nails/screws. A decent sized automotive tool cabinet starts at $400 and any other store bought organizer will cost you in the hundreds to thousands. A sheet of 1/2” ply for French cleats is $48 plus making the labour intensive tool holders and whatever hardware costs you incur while making them. So yeah, I still think pegboard is the best value beginner friendly option for storage.
Rob, have you experimented with different size L hooks? If so, your recommendations? Too small and it won’t support the weight, too large and it is overkill for the price and more likely to split the wood?
You mean the square bend screw hooks for the custom made shelves? I have 3 sizes but the larger ones fit the best but are only suitable if you have a top shelf on your tool holder large enough to hide the screw. For the smaller holders you are forced to use smaller ones. I got the larger ones at home hardware and the smaller ones at Home Depot.
Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, L hook or square bend hook. I have seen them on Amazon from 1” up to 2 5/8”. Have you ever had one fail because it was too small?

Excellent! I watched your video and came up with some ideas of my own for hanging heavy cordless power tools and batteries. Ty
This is awesome! So many great ideas. Thank you for making this video.

Good advice. Would love to make the tool cabinet. I remember Shop Notes.
Is there a system, strategy or method of laying out the board? Mine is a mess. I end up just piling everything up or leave laying around.

Redoing my shop and researching ideas. Tried French cleats first. Don’t really care for it. Ty for helping with ideas.

Do you have a way to store wood files on pegboard? I don't. The files have no handles, holes, or any other way to hang them.
@@MichaelW-le4be I would probably use a magnetic bar and just mount it to the pegboard holes with drywall anchors.
Pvc pipe hung on a hook makes a container to hold things.

This is awesome. Thanks Rob!
Curious, what tools do you choose to put on a pegboard vs in your tool cabinet? Do you have duplicates on each?
My most used hand tools go on my pegboard cabinet.
Hi Rob, thanks! Talking about tools, any recommendations for an auto scanner for Toyota/ Honda
I bought an Innova 5150RS.

There's no video showing how to put the hooks in for the most efficient hanging I am just in the beginning of this video I hope you address that
