Climbing Morocco’s Tallest Mountain 🇲🇦: FionnOnTheRoad Episode 18

- Djebel Toubkal, a soaring peak stretching 4,167 metres into the Moroccan sky. Climbing this iconic mountain has long been a goal of mine, I first heard of it watching a Canadian travel tv show called Departures that became one of my favourite shows of all time. I love hiking and have always wanted to get into the world of trekking, and Toubkal is a challenging multi day trek that isn’t too technical from a climbing standpoint. A perfect place to start for someone like me.
I had the privilege of being led up this mountain by my extremely friendly and knowledgeable guide named Hamid. He kept up a fast pace for myself and the two other climbers that joined me, a couple of top notch gentlemen who made the climb so much better with friendly banter and good stories. In this video, I start in the town of Imlil, before making my way up through the valley to the refuge where hikers spend their night before the final push to Toubkal’s summit. Don’t worry everyone, this is only Part 1 of my two day trek! Part 2 coming shortly…

Most youtubers just go to Marrakech and think they visited morocco, thank you for going to the beautiful nature of morocco
Thank you for taking me up the Atlas mountains with you. Jabel Taubkal.
Welcome to morocco
I found ur chancel just yesterday and I enjoyed every minute of ur trip in Morocco. I’m Moroccan and I’ve always wanted to climb Tobkal still never had the chance 😅Enjoy and welcome
Hey maybe this will be an inspiration to you then! If you ever get the chance to climb it you absolutely should!
You re lucky ,cause you did at the time the snow is melted , and the trekking is clear ... I was in that refuge in April 2018 ,everything was covered with snow , everything was white .
Yes exactly why I did the trek in June, it was quite hot but not much snow which was nice 😊
I don’t use the word « underrated » that often , you’ve created the best Morocco travel vlog on this platform,
I really appreciate the fact that you take time to read and answer as many comments as you can
Have a great time !!
Oh man thank you for the kind words I really appreciate that. I do my best to answer as often as possible but with more comments that I’m getting it’s definitely not as easy to do! I’m glad you like the videos, there’ll be plenty more to come!
toubkal is not only the the highest peak in the Atlas Mountains but also the highest one in North Africa
and i loooove your videos ❤👌

Those plants in 11:33 are common when there is decent amount of rain, once when i was in the mountains near rabat there are some that are taller than humans and as big as trees
We will support ur chanel for mort because u deserve it and u welcome to Morocco anytime
Aww thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
you are in shape man, what a pace going up hill !
Hi Finn, hope everythins is going very well! We did that hike (except for the mountain peak) in 2004: we were a bunch of teachers (4) at the elementary school (my school was located in the first village after going down the valley from the other side of Djebel Toubkal & close to "Ifni lake" which you have definitely seen or gotten close to) and we decided all of a sudden to do that hike wich strated at Ait-Igrane (the first village at the other side of Toubkal and where my school was lacated), up to "Ifni lake"...We then climbed the mountain pass up to the refuge where you slept (we had lunch there at around 3 pm) and, from there, we walked down to Imlil, took a taxi which brough us straight to Marrakech....We got there around 8 pm where we had supper (we had some nice brochettes with salad, olives, bread and, of course, mint tea!) and enjoyed ourselves in Jamaa El-Fna until midnight (between story tellers, juice sellers, snake charmers, belly dancers, you can not get bored...!) when we had to take a minibus which brought us back to wehere we started the day before through "Tizi-Ntasset gorges" (very tight and sinuous road), Aoulouz, Ouziwa, Iguidi and then Amsouzart (an hour and a half walk from the lake aforementioned)....We were exhausted (24 hours roundtrip), I mean completely shot, in a desperate need of a shower and rest, but it was completely worth it!

LOL those nudles are naked. Not Moroccan at all. That cook must have thought: "Those guys need carbohydrate" But I give him a D for seving that in Morocco ! 🤨
Anyway thank you for sharing this trip to the Highest mountain of North Afrika which is a part of the Atlas Mountains which is the "Spine of Morocco". Thank YOU!
Haha my thoughts exactly! Maybe he wanted to give us more carbs, I was very confused 😂

Absolutely! It’s all thanks to my new amazing Moroccan fanbase haha! I’ll make a thank you video after I make my last Morocco video
it's deserved Man..❤
Hey man, what time of year did you do this? What kind of temperatures were you getting? Thinking of climbing it in early November, but not sure whether I should expect full winter conditions then.
Hey dude I just climbed it like 2 weeks ago now. So mid June. It was very warm for the most part, but got much colder with wind and when I got towards the top of the mountain. We saw patches of snow but it was not snow capped at the time, from what I’ve heard, a winter ascent is amazing but more difficult and can be quite cold 👍
Are women allowed on this hike? Best parts are watching you run back for the camera. lol. Hoping to visit Morocco summer 2023. Your videos have answered a lot of questions for us. Thanks for sharing.
Yes women are definitely allowed, in all honesty it was mostly men, but I saw probably 5 or 6 women on the trek. I made friends with one from Austria at the summit. If you do go to Morocco you’ll have an incredible time, try and plan for a month at least if you can, I did 3 weeks and could easily do another 3… good luck!
In Morocco u need to pay more money to have a better trip ,good hostels and to visit amazing places and of course u need a partner to guide you if it your firs time. Specially in Miroccan Sahara, Marrakech and Fes.
(Your character reminds me of Joker in the dark knight film , idont really know why hh)
Haha I’ve never heard that comparison before, maybe it’s because me and the joker both smile a lot? 😂
Amazing! I was wondering how difficult it is? 1 to 10? I mean as a person with overweight is a no go or? 👀
So for me I’d give it a 6/10 difficulty but that’s totally subjective! It depends on your fitness level, how used to hiking you are, your susceptibility to altitude sickness etc. I think for most people with a couple months of light practice and training it’s doable
Amazing content keep it up 👌🏼🇲🇦
Wow very nice
Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed it :)
@@fotr hhh girl

Which city is the more attractive to you in Morocco based on your journey there ?
So far I think Chefchaouen is the best city, I’ll have a video of that in a week and a half or so. But I loved climbing Toubkal so that I think was my favourite experience
