So.... To explain, this is a poem written by J. R. R. Tolkien and is sung by Gimli in second book of The Fellowship Of The Ring. Not heard in the movies. It describes how Durin the first of the few original dwarves created by Aule (one of the Valar) woke up and named the area around him before becoming forefather of most dwarves and first King. Therefore is fitting that Geoff dressed as Gimli and sings it in Balin's tomb in Moria and the ghosts of 4 of the dwarves who had went with Bilbo in the adventure in The Hobbit appear and sing it with him.
Also, musically, it was composed by Clamavi de Profundis (plus Geoff's own adjustments, obviously), a group that does a lot of "dwarven" covers/compositions.
Agreed, this is definitely one of his best solo arrangements yet. I couldn't stop playing it for a couple days when it first came out. He doesn't hit the lowest notes he's capable of, but the range and the harmonies take you on an epic, spine tingling adventure.
he doesn't need to hit those low notes because the song is just so utterly beautiful. and honestly the restraint is part of what i love about this, he's just in a range he's completely comfortable with so you get that warm, dark, buttery tone in every character.
He had grumpy 60 year old me literally in tears at 9:59 😢, no easy feat. The man clones himself to 5 dwarfes, because he has talent enough for 5 ordinary people like me 🤪
This was amazing - did you forget you've seen 4 of these characters before in 'Over Misty Mountains Cold' and 'I see Fire'...? 😉 From the description: "Song of Durin" appeared in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, but it was only a poem when Tolkien wrote it. The music for this song was inspired by Clamavi De Profudis' melodic interpretation of Tolkien's poem. Look them up!
LOVE seeing you three together, triple the joy. Happy Spooktober, and what a perfect way to start it. I agree, this arrangement is one of Geoff's best solo pieces. It's haunting, the harmonies are a masterclass, and it almost makes you wanna dance in your chair or at least rock along to the beat, and then ALL THE CHILLS. Kathy outdid herself with the makeup. They are such a power couple.
Great way to begin spooky season! This one is so great, took first place actually. And funnily, he doesn't even go super high or super low in it. Oh, and shouldn't that be "Ka-oz" with Kaz?💙
I was already a fan of Clamavi de Profundis' version of this (the group that composed this particular version of the song), but this one also feels akin to his "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" cover, which is also one of my favorite of Geoff's covers.
You know how you always say you're not prepared? You really won't be when you hear their Be Prepared version with an assist from original member Mykal Kilgore--like For the Love and 4:2:Five original member.
you should definitely check out Colm McGuinness's version of Song Of Durin. He features Jonathan Music and Bobby Bass so you know its gonna be deep down low.
Loved the reaction!!! Not sure if you did already, but you should definitely react to "Colm Mcguinness Songs of Durin" aswell....it was AMAZING!!! I can guarantee, ALOT of pens will be thrown 😂

Wow! That is too cool! I like you paid attention to those details!
I See Fire was so good, I didn't expect to find this one even better. Oh, and Voiceplay drops Be Prepared on Friday.

Man, knowing the lore and seeing the different dead dwarven men with Gimli, in Balin's Tomb, good enough to make a grown man cry. :)
He had grumpy 60 year old me literally in tears at 9:59 😢, no easy feat.

Having read the Silmarillion, the line about Nargothrond and Gondolin always gets me
@@charliereader3462 I've not read the book yet but I know what you mean
The artistry and talent displayed in this video have made it my new favorite of his. He is just so incredibly talented!!! WOW!

Geoff referenced Durin in I See Fire and I’m pretty sure that was from The Hobbit, so this is probably a follow-up.
Great way to begin spooky season! This one is so great, took first place actually. And funnily, he doesn't even go super high or super low in it. Oh, and shouldn't that be "Ka-oz" with Kaz?💙

Misty Mountains and I see Fire were amazing covers and all, but Geoff outdid himself in this one.... Epic.
You ladies are kooky, great reaction!
I wish Geoff would do a voice over for a video intro in his bassy voice
glad you ladies had such fun with this ❤
Enjoyed the reaction, yes Geoff will cause an earthquake with them smooth low notes.
Spooktober bringing the damage... can't wait for Be Prepared.

So excited to listen to this with you ladies! Thanks for another great reaction
Spooky season is my favourite season of the year and there's no better way to start than with a LOTR ballad by Geoff.

Hey, Kaz, I love the reactions as always. If you think this version was crazy i highly recommend the cover by colm mc Guinness
If you need Spooktober ideas, The Hound + the Fox haunted playlist is fantastic! If you want joy, I recommend Home Free something to talk about.
This was amazing but my favorite is The Headless Horseman.
They probably don't have the right material but watching this video makes me wish Geoff and/or VP did their own version of Home Free's Vault videos.
I love your shirts. Have you watched voice plays classical chaos video?
