Chucky is a legend, there are masters who some like and others not, but everyone loves Chucku for his beautiful chess and his passion for it. I fully agree with you about Yorkshire tea. Getting good tea up here in the arctic is difficult. My wife came back from a girls weekend in London earlier today, she brought Yorkshire tea with her. So i am very happy. Thanks Daniel.

Did not know Chucky played the KID. Nice Petrosian type exchange sac and a lovely finish which was not easy to see. Chucky has that universal style. 😀👍

This just shows that a so-called "winning combination" may not look like very much at first...no obvious explosions or firecrackers...but may just be the start of something BIG!

Chess analysis from a GM and a former commentator . sometimes with anecdotes and stories .
Analysis is based more on themes rather than on brute calculation of lines etc.

I always have Yorkshire Tea in my cupboard and usually slurp it in harmony with DK. But then I come from Yorkshire. Scarborough, currently, which has an excellent annual chess congress, held in the Ocean room, overlooking the sea.

Aww, Daniel King trying to win my heart with all these KID wins. Worry not, Mr King, it's already yours. =D

  • @LateCloser
    @LateCloser Год назад

If someone hits me with some theory that I don't know what to do against, I always look for a Chuky game for ideas. That strategy, NEVER fails. And then the amusing part is, sometimes you get games on both sides of the story. Although, my days of playing the KID (as black) are long over and they will not be returning. Nonetheless, this was another enjoyable lesson from probably my two favorite chess instructors. Neither will ever know the full impact they've had on my chess game, but that's OK. I do. I'll just click the like button, throw a comment out for the RUclips algorithm and be happy the rest of the day. :)
    Thank you Vasyl and Danny.

8:50 sqq. -- I would call that "a Spassky move". In many ways, Ivanchuk emulates Spassky. That's perhaps why Spassky admired (and admires) him so much.

With Ivanchuk I always get the feeling he knows some secrets about chess that almost no one else does. The ordinary ways of us Patzers are not normal for him.

I thought it was 27. Rc1, which works if white takes the rook (which I somehow assumed he had to), but not if he doesn't (ends up in a perpetual many moves later according to Stockfish).

  • @huddunlap3999

When I first put in 27. Kf1 the computer at first gave white a +6 advantage and then quickly changed its mind.

"Yorkshire tea, you can't beat it" - have you ever tried the tea from my homeland, Wales - Glengettie ? A favourite in Wales for many generations and far superior to Yorkshire tea and I will throw down my handkerchief and invite you to a duel if you say otherwise.

I must say I did not quite understand Bxf6 even if you want the exchange. It seems to me like a waste of a (crucial) tempo: Why not play Nc4 first and threaten Nb6? Yes, upon Qf8 we may not want to play Nb6 because of Rxf3 and hell breaks loose. However we can still take on f6 and follow up with Qg5 and then after black's queen retreats to f8 we play Rg1. The difference is that now we have an extra tempo and the rook is already on the gfile such that after Bh6 Qxh5 Qf4 fails to Rg4. It's still not winning and might get crazy (eg. b5 Nb6 and then Qf4 or b5 Nxe5!?) but at least we have a simple extra tempo.

in this variation h3 turns out to be just a lost of tempo, f3 then h4 directy would be quicker.

    • @PowerPlayChess

If only it were that simple... 5 f3 is called the Saemisch Variation and is a somewhat different kettle of fish. Black can play in many different ways, not just as Ivanchuk did here.

Never understood playing d5 when you cannot immediately follow up with b4 if black plays Nc5. Seems like you are giving black exactly what he wants. Especially when you have already played h3/f3 and can support d4 with Be3 without having to worry about Ng4
