Okay but this Maria is just lovely. She's so natural, goofy, wild, and free spirited! Exactly who Maria is. And the voice of an angel. Beautiful job. Just WOW.
I don't know why no one at least chuckled when the Captain says, "I'll see that you get some new material. Today, if possible." I've always found the wryness in that line funny.
What sets this production apart is how they let the children react independently instead of all just acting as a group. It really gives them a surprising amount of personality. Friedrick I noticed does the brother thing and pushes his "sisters" around a few times.
Did this musical in 1967 !! A high school production, that is still spoke of Today !! Our Mother Abess , was a beautifully voiced young Lady named Paula Courtney !! One of the best, I've heard in all these years !! It was at Edison High School, in Stockton, California !! Al Miller was the Drama teacher and Director of the production !! He was a great teacher !! I'm now 70, and this brought back so many memories !! It was a tumultuous time in my life !! But , I'm Still Here !!
The person who played Maria, was the BEST I have seen, she IS Very,Very talented and Real pleasure and joy to watch!! Thank you,for sharing this presentation on RUclips. Sincerely Nancy Sanders.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love the little bit of extra "business" the director put in with Rolfe and Liesl at the conclusion. In many productions, that seminal moment just doesn't get the focus it needs. Nice touch!
@@MusaMansu I have mixed feelings on the play vs. movie with Rolf. From the beginning, he's controlling, telling Liesl how naive she is, that she needs someone older and wiser telling her what to do, and that he's the man to do it. I think the betrayal of her in the movie is fitting. However, I also like that bit of heart that he still has in the play.
Hey guys I am playing Friedrich and I’m so so excited. I absolutely love the Sound of Music. It’s the best music I have ever seen. It’s probably a probably, the most heartwarming music I’ve ever seen
Amazing production from everyone there 🙂 And I have to say, I’m glad that ‘The Lonely Goatherd’ was moved to the festival scene. I perceive that song to be a more appropriate song for the occasion than the movie’s reprise of ‘Do-Re-Mi’ (or, as I like to call the reprise, the Jam and Bread song).
The person who plays Maria Is the BEST I have seen, she Is Very,Very talented, and a Real pleasure and joy to watch! Thank you,for sharing this presentation on RUclips.Sincerely,Nancy Sanders♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
When I went to a local high school production of this, the audience watching the play became the audience at the festival. When the chaos ensued, in search of the von Trapp family, the "SS soldiers" came running down the aisles of the auditorium, one with a German Shepherd dog on a leash. It was very dramatic!
I can’t wait today the director of a theater company I’m in just told us that this is going to be the musical for next summer for all ages!! I am definitely doing it . It is one of my favorite musicals. Because it is my mom’s favorite. Sound of music I’ll say is what started my love of musicals. My mom might do it with me
The production retained the Maria/Georg love duet "Something Good", written by Richard Rodgers for the film version and sung by Julie Andrews and Bill Lee.The love duet in the original show was "An Ordinary Couple", sung by Mary Martin and Theodore Bikel.
This is the best and most spectacular performance I have ever watched. It is truly unparalleled, magical, wonderful, and interesting. The combination of several emotions is amazing.
I’m looking for when Leisl says Oh, Fraulein, Father's never going to marry her. Why, he couldn't, because he's in love with you. ... You must know that - Remember the other night when we were all sitting on the floor singing the Edelweiss song he taught us? After we finished, you laughed at him for forgetting the words. He didn't forget the words. He just stopped singing to look at you. And when he speaks to you, the way his voice sounds - and the way you looked at him just now when you were dancing. You're in love with him too!
My local theatre is doing a production of this and I got the role of Mother Superior! I'm much more familiar with the movie version of this musical, so I'm watching this for a few pointers ^^
Play features that are different from the movie - "My Favorite Things" is first sung by Maria and Reverend Mother. "Do-Re-Mi" is sung as soon as Maria meets the kids. "The Lonely Goatherd" is sung in the bedtime scene (some performances have changed this to "My Favorite Things" - varying the actual time when "The Lonely Goatherd" is sung.) "Edelweiss" is not sung until the very end in the Austrian Festival plotline. Other differences include the fact that Brigitta makes the statement that initially prompts Maria to return to the Abbey. Baroness Schrader breaks off the engagement after an argument with the Captain. Maria informs the Nazi soldiers about planned performance in the Austrian festival. And Rolf, upon seeing Liesel, decides not to report the Van Trapps to his lieutenant in the final climax. Changes made in the movie - "Do-Re-Mi" is sung outside the day after Maria meets the kids. "My Favorite Things" is first sung during the bedtime scene. (This is widely considered to have been a positive change and has often been incorporated into subsequent play performances.) "Edelweiss" is first sung by the Captain to his family earlier on. "The Lonely Goatherd" is sung as part of a puppet show that was put on by the children. Baroness Schrader notices the Captain's feelings toward Maria and privately convinces her to return to the abbey. Maria leaves a note before leaving the first time. The children go back to the abbey to try to speak with Maria before the Reverend Mother confronts her. Captain breaks off his engagement with Baroness Schrader himself. Captain informs the Nazis about the Austrian festival after being caught trying to push his car away. Rolf does report the Van Trapps to his lieutenant in the final climax, but the nuns have removed parts of the Nazi car.
This has always been my favorite musical. There are several songs in the stage production that didn't make it into the movie. I think I like the stage version better than the original movie.
In an age where there are people proudly waving nazi flags, this musical hits quite differently than when nazis were seen like an extinct group of people.
Okay , this Maria does such an EXCELLENT JOB!!! My highschool is putting this play on and tryouts are the first week of next school year! I really want Maria!!!! I will let you know which part I get when we get casted, for I am sure I will watch this 100 more times before our production!!!!
Mr.Nelson, would it be possible for you to share the names of the actors who play the main parts,as I think All of them are the BEST I have seen on RUclips. Thank you,so much for sharing and showing this version of " The Sound of Music." Sincerely,N.Sanders
Amazing production. The part with the Lonely Goatherd (and etc), aka the show, hit differently with the nazi banners in the background. Also the Maria sounds just like Julie Andrews, perfect
Incredible Cast- great singers: the costumes & scenery were wonderful. Questions- was a live orchestra used & what is the name of theatre group & where are you located? Looking forward to other musical productions. Thank you.
Question for the director: Where could one find the rites to this specific version? ( i.e. preforming “My Favorite Things” in the bedroom scene and including “No Way to Stop It” and “Something Good”) Were these scenes just added or is there a specific rites for this version? Thanks
I am kinda nervous because I’m going to be almost 25 when auditions are but I look younger then I am I look like a kid. So I will be trying out for Louisa but I’m nervous they think I’m too old
Its about actable age- most theaters would prefer a young looking adult considering the romantic undertones. I am 27 auditioning for Maria and Elsa, but I am tall and though I look young, IDK about 16. I threw her on there for fun in case. Just go for it!
I’m auditioning tommorow and trying out for Louisa is my first choice Bragitta is my 2ed choice and sister Margareta is my third choice. But I’m good with anyone as long as I get to wear a pretty dress in the ballroom scene
The scene in which Maria and Georg finally acknowledge their mutual love is touching. The duet 'Something Good' was written for the film version by Richard Rodgers.
I did this show at my school when I was in first grade (😂) it was my second time doing a musical LOL but I got Louisa but the show got cancelled and I’m glad Bc it sucked 😃 LOL
The production I love most is the one from 1965, with Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. It's the only one I ever want to see, because it's the first one I saw, and it's the one I know best. Even when they change the order of songs, or change the order of anything, or even miss bits out!!!!! It's not the same to me, because it's not the one I know. Even this one that's on now is a different version, and I don't like it as much.
The life scene is ridiculous! The captains laugh is creepy! And the long energy zapping pauses are horrible! So unnatural. No one talked like that! The worst acting I’ve ever seen!!!
The actress who played Maria was Extraordinary! The actor who played Captain Von Trapp was Very Good!
Okay but this Maria is just lovely. She's so natural, goofy, wild, and free spirited! Exactly who Maria is. And the voice of an angel. Beautiful job. Just WOW.

This is the best I've seen in a long time! Well done to the cast and crew, this show was casted and directed perfectly! ❤🎉
This production gets my award for Best Possible Use of the Children. These are real kids with real reactions. Love 'em!
best possible use of children? 😡

Agreed. In the movie, he kind of betrays her.

A brilliant production with fabulous performances by one and all, especially the Maria--and kudos to the scenic designer for the magnificent set!
