    I just did that to my completely clogged 2012 1.6 Grand Picasso dpf, and it is running beautifully since. Mine had neither the heatshield, nor the tabs that kept it in place - after unscrewing just the two collars and the pressure sensor line, it practically fell off by itself. Thank you for this great and very informative video, you gave a complete amateur the motivation to tackle this, with excellent results.

    Chaps, DPF's filter soot - but over long period it clogs up with ASH. Ash comes from 1. poor quality diesel (high sulphur content etc) 2. wrong oil. SEA rating (such as 0w30) is not the thing to look for. If your car has a DPF fitted, you should look for ACEA C3 / ACEA C2 engine oil. Those will warant very low ash content and extend intervals between required DPF flushing.
    Good luck !

    In 2007 I bought an ex- demonstrator Mazda 6 Diesel. I did not know about their DPF system. Basically, when it senses exhaust back pressure due to a semi-clogged DPF, it injects extra fuel on the exhaust stroke, in order to try to burn the carbon in the DPF. Unfortunately, some of the diesel fuel by-passes the piston rings and ends-up in the sump, diluting the oil.
    When the sump level reaches a high enough level , the engine achieves what is called a 'diesel runaway - where the engine revs uncontrollably , bein fed with an un-metered mixture of fuel and oil. This happened to me and it was a frightening experience!
    When I searched the internet, I found hundreds of people that this had happened to. The general opinion was, that the noxious oil/fuel exhaust gases would have damaged the catalytic convertor, requiring a replacement, which at the time was about £2000.
    Much correspondence with Mazda revealed that they did not care less about the situation.
    So, in two years of ownership, I traded the car in for less than half of its market value.
    I would NEVER buy a modern diesel again, and would NEVER set foot inside another Mazda dealership.

    • @retrorestore

      Wow, that's not good. I agree modern diesels emission control is no good for cars that do short journeys. Very poor design

    • @sdgelectronics
      @sdgelectronics 3 года назад

      Most DPF systems don't operate this way. They either have a separate fuel injector just before the DPF or they use Adblue or similar. The exhaust stroke injection method was only on a small handful of vehicles.

    This engine also suffers badly with turbo oil starvation, which is due to the oil pick up strainer in the sump becoming blocked with sludge. This is a by product of the soot build up from DPF and EGR issues. Every time an oil change is done, do an oil flush. I'll send you the info I have to your email address.

      Leon from bodgit & leggit garage done a video about it showing how to take out the gauze from the bolt which is on the engine end! Better to have a very little bit of crud in the turbo rather than have no oil at all!

      When changing the oil on mine I noted the oil drain plug is not at the lowest part. There is an area where old oil will sit.
      The biggest pain was removing the undertray as the bolts were rusted to hell. I'm presuming because many of the garages just remove a few and let the tray hinge down.

    I like that. My pug 307 is bunged up with so much coke I’m gonna have to do the same. That’s after I’ve removed and cleaned my leaking injectors and cleaned the EGR valve. Need to de-carbonise every sodding bit of the car and remove my sump and clean the gunge out of that. Great learning video 👍

    great video, it's a shame your apprentice (and his kitchen utensils) won't be in more of your videos. or you'll have use that as an excuse to go Cyprus more. but fair play to you Martin, not many RUclipsrs would keep posting content whilst on holiday. just thought people appreciate that you did. on another note hopefully you don't get anymore issues with the car. 👌

      @@retrorestore well, I appreciate that you running a RUclips channel let alone multiple, is relentless. it's not like TV where you have a crew of people doing the edits and what not. and that you & can't forget scrap it man, actually take the time and engage with your viewers, which some RUclipsrs don't. and you create content that's designed to help people. it's clear you actually do alot for your viewers. but anyways hope you enjoyed your holiday.

      It's the same collar I have on my rear muffler. Honestly, they're just a pain in the ass. Use a screwdriver or something similar to pry the ends apart and try to wrestle it into place. Sometimes brawn is the answer haha

  • @Frz45

    The issue here is, that fluid is clearly alkaline which will dissolve the suit but it requires an acid to dissolve the ash, sadly a fluid cannot be both.
    But as a pre cleaner id say it does a great job 👍🏻 Next issue is the ceramic material that makes up the filter itself will react with an alkaline if subject to 100°C and above. Also maybe recommend not dipping your fingers in dirty, toxic things…. Also putting your finger in dpf cleaning chemicals and suit is not recommended 🤣

    You give advice on cleaning a DPF on RUclips and dispose the contaminated acid in the ground ? Very smart...

  • @DAVWELLS123

    Have you checked the DPF fluid? The pipes you mentioned as sensor pipes..... carry a fluid into the DPF filter but helps burn off the crap. If it's the 1.6 hdi without the fluid the same thing will happen again with in weeks. 😖

    • @BogdanSerban
      @BogdanSerban 3 года назад

      That fluid is either fuel or adblue (if the car has a tank for adblue)
