George Alan O'Dowd (born 14 June 1961), known professionally as Boy George, is a British singer, songwriter, disc jockey, fashion designer, photographer and record producer. He is the lead singer of the pop band Culture Club. At the height of the band's fame, during the 1980s, they recorded global hit songs such as "Karma Chameleon", "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me" and "Time (Clock of the Heart)". George is known for his soulful voice and his androgynous appearance. He was part of the British New Romantic movement which emerged in the late 1970s to the early 1980s.
"Everything I Own" is a song written by David Gates. It was originally recorded by Gates's rock band Bread for their 1972 album Baby I'm-a Want You. The original reached No. 5 on the American Billboard Hot 100.
The version by Boy George reached No. 1 in the charts in the UK, Canada, Ireland and Norway in 1987, Boy George's first hit and only UK No. 1 as a solo artist.
This video was recorded and broadcast at the Diamond Award Festival of December 29, 1987.

I remember when he burst on to the scene. He was like a breath of fresh air. He was proud of he was. I admired him for daring to be different in our sometimes, not so excepting culture. I've always loved Boy George. He's doing a Reggae version of Bread's hit song, and this is very similar to what was done to the song in the movie titled Bandslam with Vanessa Hudgens singing it, and the name of the band is I Can't Go On, I'll Go On. In that movie the song is played with a combination of Reggae and Punk fused together as well as a few classical musical instruments too. Personally, as a lover of good quality music, I really enjoy listening to each of the 3 different versions of Everything I Own made by: Bread, who were the original group that recorded it in a slow and soft style of the early 1970s; then there's the Reggae style which added a dance beat to it in the 1980s, and Boy George as one who helped make it popular; and then in the early 2000s you got the movie "Bandslam" where the song was revamped again by combining Reggae, Punk, and a bit of classical too all fused into a newer sound and style of music.
He's doing a cover of the Ken Boothe version from 1974. It was a massive hit worldwide , nothing to do with a movie

These lyrics are deep and far heavier than this reagge treatment is capable of matching. Easy on the ear but once youve heard David Gates and Bread original 1972 hit version you probably know what Im trying to say!

George sounds hollow on “Everything I Own”, trailing away particularly at the end of lines, ragged on the high notes, hiding in the (utterly uninspired) arrangement. Not his best.
Unfortunately I have to agree . He's capable of sooo much better.
I love this song. Its reggae and his voice suits the song. Its not meant to require high range vocals. Victims is a ballad. This song “ Everything l own “ is classic reggae.
