I can follow everything that is Bible, but I have a hard time following any quote or references that is from somewhere or someone else. The text of Ephesians actually doesn't say that the husband is in charge. He's not the boss. All of theses verses are Paul giving an example of how to live out Christ's command to love one another. As the text says, the man serves and conducts acts of service to support and love just as Christ loves the church. There's no hierarchy, no who is the boss. Reading hierarchy and power/authority into these verses is to be reading the scripture through the lenses of the sinful, power-hungry, fallen world and not through the lenses are Christ. Couples are free to make decisions any way they want. People who see power, hierarchy, and who's in charge in these verses are those who really don't get Christianity, and our churches are filled with people who don't truly understand Christ and his commands.
Complete equality and sinful dictatorship are not the only options. The ballroom dance analogy they talk about is great. There is no question about there being a leader, but it's done with grace and gentleness, and above all, love. And the woman follows, in love. Our culture has made it so difficult to accept that truth.
