PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE reach out to Fairview and encourage them to sell their green “Fairview United” tshirts to raise additional funds towards their legal fight…… there are TONS of people who would LOVE to support them against the church. We live 8 minutes from Fairview and our daughter works in Fairview. The church has a heavy population here and it would behoove them to see people PROUDLY wearing the green tshirts in solidarity!!! We would purchase adult AND youth tshirts!!💚💚💚💚

So glad for autoplay. I was in the kitchen making a mess and this came on after the other podcast I selected finished.
You both are phenomenal presenters. And I find the sound of your voices most pleasant and soothing, even when tackling upsetting topics (like church bullies).
Your investigative skills are exceptional, though I worry about you becoming Rebecca Karen Silkwood and Landon Michael Hastings for locking horns with "Big Joseph" (I'm only half joking).
Keep up the great work, folks. While I'm a nevermo, I have the greatest respect for truth-tellers of any stripe.
    Warmest best wishes.

They could build a moat around the temple deep enough that the spire would be 120 ft high from the bottom of the moat.

I'm selling my home and have had to comply with planning regulations for an old extension that was put on nearly 50 years ago. I can't sell it without complying with the law even though I know it had permission but old docs can't be found. I'm happy to do this if it means my sale can go through. That is what is called complying with the law of the land. This is a disgrace no Church should be allowed to be above the laws of the land and be so deceitful over it. It certainly won't endear the Fairview towns folk and administration to tge LDS church. Not much loving thy neighbour here and a huge lot of pharasaaic behaviour. These Temples should fit in to the environment and should be sympathetic to those who have to live in its illuminated shadow. If I was a member of this Church this big bully tactic would make me stop and think what kind of "christianity" is this. And didn't Jesus turn over the tables of the moneychangers in the Temple. It seems the Church can use its large fortune to bully people to accept their huge Temples that do not let anyone in but their own and do not welcome their neighbours opinions. And didn't Jesus say it didn't matter where you worship its when two or three are joined together. Don't remember him saying it was a must to have big out of place buildings that needed tall spires to remind the members of God. Non Mormon here sharing your anger here. And isn't this just tge way to show up the false happy neighbourly loving image they want to portray. Cc

The posture of the church in this instance and in the other recent city temples is deplorable. It would only be just if its members developed a good sense of embarrassment over the bullying posture and sure damage to the reputation of the church to all that learn of this attitude. Don't expect this to help the missionary effort regardless.

This is quite troubling. It perplexes me that the church is behaving this way. Its not how I was taught by the church to deal with my fellow man. I remember being taught that we should avoid bringing lawsuits against others as it was contentious and adversarial and should only be a last resort and only in extreme cases. Better to drop the case and take the high road. What good is it to build a temple if it creates animosity and ill will? Temple work will still get done whether at a different location or in a differently designed building. Why such a fuss over the building design? Such a lack of perspective.

  • @Gideonslc

I remember when 2Nephi 9:34 was a scripture mastery scripture and lying definitely wasn't part of "being honest in our dealings with our fellow man. That was really brought home to me in my youth by the Article of Faith statement: We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law. 🙄Would Ballard call this being as honest as they know how to be? If so, the leadership needs to go back to kindergarten.

The town met all their obligations under the agreement. The only party who failed to meet their commitment was the church. Read the agreement. Temples are beautiful and only add a positive element to any community. Overly limiting the size and height of the building is akin to a denial. The parcel is large enough to support the building size proposed. Large setbacks and generous landscaping will create a balanced design that only compliments and enhances the community. Let the Church exercise its property rights and allow a use that will only beautify, uplift, and inspire.

@@annwood6812 The second rendering is a huge concession and the City is still asking for more. Conditional uses, especially for churches, are to be reviewed and approved according to quality design and compatibility. The parcel is so large, and the building is sited such, that neighbors are not negatively impacted. In all actuality, this temple will be a huge benefit to the area and will only be regarded as a beautiful addition to the community.
