Correction: Portmaster DOES NOT come on the stock Anbernic firmware. It is included in MuOS, you will need to flash that firmware and find a guide for the game you want to play in order to use it.
I think you might have followed an older tutorial for portmaster; I was struggling with stardew until I found out there was an update to portmaster like, three days ago. now there's way less steps and it's incredibly easy, and runs great. It boots slow, then runs just fine.
Oh really?? Thanks so much! I'll check it out haha
Yeah it's on muOS at least, it's fantastic. Smooth and easy.i had to fresh install the os but the backup feature made it really easy to update everything. Big fan of it.
I would love it if after market folks build a aluminum shell that we can move the internals into
Ooooo that would be SO cool!
It would kill the wifi which is already weak.
I absolutely love mine. Already played with it 5x longer than any other of these handhelds I bought months or years ago. The form factor is everything
Keep up the good work!
I have a rg353v, rg35xx,35xx+, 35xx-h, miyoo mini, retroid 3 and now a rg556. Out of all of them the 556 is my new fav, the screen quality and long play comfort beats the others in my collection.
I installed muOS and Stardew was easy to install and runs great. The initial load times are slow, but once your save loads it is great.
Interesting, maybe I'll take another look and see if maybe I need to figure something out. I'm glad it works for you! 👍
You're going to be one of the big channels young lad. Congrats.
Haha I can only hope haha, thanks for the comment 😁
@@CozyDesignStudios You know design, I know tech and retro, trust me, you're on you way. BTW, muOS is releasing a CFW which will be unit specific for the RG SP and should include scraping and lid detection.
Oh really? Ill definitely keep an eye out for it!
@@CozyDesignStudios It's going to be quite the release with quite a few quality of life improvements apparently. The CFW community is certainly active around this SOC. It's a win win for enthusiasts to be sure.
Ur the coolest person ever actually
😂 thanks man
I agree with this review, I'm really appeal to this console just because the form factor which brings "Nostalgia". I don't own a GBA SP back in the day, but I do play a lot of it by borrowing from friends and cousins. By the time my family have decent PC, I've experienced GBA games via emulation and some other time on my cousins Wii Virtual Console.
Personally, This RG35XX SP is perfect for NES, SNES, GB, GBC, GBA and older console maybe for some NDS games... because that's really what I want to play the most.
Sure... we can do anything with a PC... but at that point just get a steamdeack.
Emulation on phones also good with a controller but that's another hassle and it does drain your phone battery pretty quickly.
I'm glad you liked the video haha yea I think that's probably the best use case for this, and I think even if you did limit it to just those consoles it's still totally worth the money
Pro-tip, swirl the glass to stir the ice as you pour the coffee and the ice won't melt. Same concept as cocktails.
Oooo I'll have to try that! Thanks 😁
I got the 35xx h for the horizontal form factor. If you plan to play ps1 and dreamcast games the dual sticks really help.
Oh that's great! Thanks for the recommendation, I'll keep that in mind for future videos! 👍
The clicky buttons are a shame. I woke my wife up and was told to goto bed LOL
I guess the 35XX H will be my night gamer.
Loll fair enough
There’s another RUclipsr who starts his videos off the exact same! Talks about the exact same stuff! I’m not saying you were inspired by them, but.
Oh really? That's crazy haha whats their channel?
If I drink a glass of water every time I see a video with "the best retro handheld" on a thumbnail I would stay hydrated for sure 😂
I ordered from the main website and amazon, looks like amazon is arriving first.
Thanks for the heads up, I added the link to the description 👍
You're using only "legally obtained rooms" as you recommended? I highly doubt it
17:20 That clickyness is unique to the SP, the other RG35xx's have MUCH BETTER buttons. Not sure where this claim comes from.
Yea thats fair, like I said I don't have any of the others ones so i gotta go off what otehr reviews said. From what ive seen the reported button clickyness on their other hardware tends to vary from location to location (and review to review).
Ive seen a lot of reviews that say that the shoulder buttons on the XX are really clicky, and others that say the face buttons on the H are similarly clicky.
i know for the XXplus they apparently used rubber membrane buttons on the face but from what i hear the shoulder button on that are still clickier?
I just meant to say that anbernic seem to have a preference for buttons on the clickier side rather than mushy.
I personally like the clicky experience so the only thing I really take issue with is that they aren't all the same in terms of clickyness.
Legally obtained ROMs😅😅😅😅😅😅
How do you get Portmaster on Stock OS?
It comes pre installed, it should be under applications?
@@CozyDesignStudios Do I need to re-flash the SD card? My version of StockOS has ports, but not Portmaster.
I havent even heard from any other reviewer that it has portmaster on stock. You're probably better off installing muos instead because, I heard that stardew's performance was pretty decent. Although you can't place stuff rn due to the missing joysticks. Although I feel like it should be fine to remap it in the games setting menu
Sorry my bad I think I got that a bit mixed up, as mentioned by Luigigrabspam it comes with MuOs. There is a guide for how to get that installed on the download site here: muos.dev/help/installation
Just download the file and flash it using one of the tools linked on that site. Then boot from the card it should all be good from there. The process of getting games to work on Portmaster is a bit different for every game so just look up a guide for the one your looking to play.
