Another tip is when you format your new SD card, don't use the built in format option in game mode. Manually format your SD card in desktop mode using the included KDE Partition Manager in the start menu. This will increase the SD downloading speed significantly for most users.
Man… I wish this thing were released when I was a kid or teen because that’s the time where I had a lot of free times and energy. Now I’m in my mid 30s having a ton of works to do and feeling tired all the time.
I didn't even think of getting glow in the dark thumb stick caps until now and the kickstand looks awesome. I will be definitely adding these to my list
@@MainCave is it putting too much strain on the original travel case? the interior of it is pretty much "cut" on the deck, so i'm guessing the kickstand is pressing on it.
I got that grip case cover that was last on the list. The one with the x on the back. It’s actually much better quality than I thought it would be. And it came with 2 screen protectors with wet wipes and lint stickers. I thought the design was a little gaudy but the lines on the back are not white. It is solid black but the designs are gloss and the rest is matte. The pictures are just showing the bright studio lights reflecting. I’d recommend it!
I have three accessories. A Jsaux upgraded docking station but a steam deck dock will do the same job, plug and cable, and a screen protector. The docks cover all of the following 4. Hub 6. Stand 7. 90 degree adapter 8 kickstand. The upgraded dock is important for 3 usb ports to match that of the steamdeck.
I ended ordering a protector, both times dust & shit got underneath, small specs, but im borderline ocd about that crap. In my honest opinion its not necessary. on the incredibly low chance you somehow scratch it ifixit has replacements. You literally need to forcefully be prodding it with a nail for lasting damage.
I like the updated JSAUX dock myself. But the most important add-on for the Steam Deck is definitely a memory card. Power bank is not hugely important for me, because I mostly play indie games, and i keep the TDP turned down to between 3 to 9 watts, this gives up around 8 hours of battery life per charge for the deck.
Yes! One accessory that we NEED to get working on this. AR glasses. Specifically the Nreal air. I'm building a deck that needs a dock to run the glasses so I can continue to feed power to the deck. This build is gonna be a game changer, but I need to know what Dock will do the job of routing all that data and juicing everything from an external battery.
I bought a matt screen protector for mine (64gb) for £10 and cuts out reflections excellently. As for mouse and keyboard I bought a flat folding one which takes up less space when folded but isn’t fiddly to type with when unfolded
I work from home and my employer provided me with a Dell laptop, a couple monitors, and a docking station with a USB-C connector. That same Dell docking station from work also works perfectly with the Steam deck. I just plug my Steam deck in instead, and wham. Full desktop PC mode, multi-monitor setup, keyboard and mouse. From there I can use flash drives to transfer ROMs from my personal PC to the Steak deck to play via Emudeck, or even just straight up use it as a PC if I want to do some lightweight tasks and don't feel like using my regular PC with that space heater of a GPU (3090 TI).
Regarding the SD cards: A2 class cards have faster random read speeds, so if you're installing larger games to the card that's what you want to go for. Also have a look at the price per GB: you can get the Sandisk ones in capacities up to 1 TB, but it's actually cheaper to buy multiple lower capacity cards totalling that capacity. Since you can hot-swap the cards (that means switching them out while the device is on), that might be the better option.
yeah for this reason i have multiple cards. one for fighting games. one for shooters. and one lastly for sidescrollers :) on the deck itself i have barely anything on it. because the ssd is imho harder to replace.
I noticed that to play American McGee's Alice you need to have access to an alt+enter keys to access the menu (and play the game) there's probably other older titles with that same problem so a travel keyboard is a must
You can get anti glare screen protectors, which somewhat makes the OLED anti glare screen a little pointless, but at least you can protect it without loosing the glare protection.
From this list, I'd go with the SanDisk Micro SD card. Considering the pitiful storage capacity Valve offers with even their highest tier model, I think expandable storage is absolutely necessary. The Micro SD card may be the least exciting of other options on this list, but it is by far the most essential. The SanDisk Micro SD card is my choice.

There are powerbanks from INIU, with 25k mAh and 65w at a much lower price than Baseus one with lower capacity. Just saying. I got 2 of them a while ago and they're really good.
I got an 87w anker, for one because of the brand(known good by a friend who goes through more battery banks than me), but also know I'll have no problem charging other devices too(even power hungry ones). Also got the chance to test it, 40-99% in around an hour(didn't time it just mowed the lawn, may have been less). This bank also got me through a solid 12 hour or so power outage earlier this year, and I was one of the lucky ones who's power came back in less than 24 hours....I didn't have the steamdeck then, but kept my phone topped off.
If you prefer earbuds I highly recommend the hyperx cloud mix buds! They have a usb c dongle to avoid latency of Bluetooth and they work great with discord and such. But I also use them bluetooth and still haven't noticed latency!

I’d definitely buy from a reputable brand just in case, the one I have has worked fine for weeks. If you’re worried wait for the official dock 👍🏻 I’m going to get one when it releases.
What happened to me is that if I connect the hub (BlitzWolf 8-in-1), switch to desktop mode, put the Deck in sleep mode, resume it and then unplug the Deck, the screen doesn't switch back to the Deck. That freaked me out for a second the first time it happened (rebooting fixed it). It's a known bug that should get fixed in the next OS update.
I have a similar keyboard but it has a dongle. Does yours not have a dongle? Looks the exact same - Rii x8. Any advice? It won't co nect without the dongle
I use a magnetic usb-c adapter, the adapter stay on my charging cable and the magnetic tip in the usb-c ports on my steam deck. This way you have much less chance of breaking the non reparable usb-c on the deck long term plus it makes it easier to charge. It can pass up to 100w and is usb 3.1 gen 2 compatible so you can use this adapter with a dock etc.
Have you had any issues with tiny bits of metal and debris getting stuck in the magnetic component? I've been using magnetic chargers for my phone for a while now, and though it's definitely worth it, it can be annoying if your not too careful.
@@spectrumaevum7476 Did not happen to me, i've been using magnetic adapter for my quest 2 and ipad for years and yes it can look at bit dirty but never had one stopped working or had to clean up.
The white skin is the one I love also. Really got into white and black, with white being the prominent colour. I just wish SteamDeck would hurry up and get dual boot windows 11 to work flawlessly
I have the switch equivalent of the tomtoc bag, and it works well. Although the outer patch is only magnetic, it looks like the steam deck version is zipper.
Awesome video! If you haven't heard of the Deckmate you definitely need to check it out. I plan on going to Japan around the end of March and I might just pick one up myself
I really really wanted to steam deck when they first talked about but when they came out, they did not come out in Australia so I couldn’t get one for my birthday
I use my Galaxy buds 2 pro with gaming mode turned on and experience no noticeable lag. Seems they do require an initial connection to a phone with Samsung wearables app in order to turn that feature on though. which is kind of lame I guess but not a problem for me
Thanks for this and subscribed. Glad to see more uk owners If you don't mind me asking, how much was the tomtoc case? It's not longer available on amazon unfortunately so hopefully I can find it elsewhere for a similar price
The screen protector works better on the 64 and 256 models . Because they don't have the new screen, the only way you can get a good protector screen for the 512 deck, if they make a protector that's like the anti glare screen.
I just got a decent messenger bag made to hold a 17" laptop, including a padded compartment. It has enough room for my Deck in its case (the 512 GB version's special case), my portable 15" gaming monitor, 60% keyboard, wireless mouse, headset (that folds down pretty nicely), USB hub and all the cables I'd need to set everything up. Carries nicely, protects everything, and it's not obvious that I'm an aging nerd with a bunch of portable gaming shit on me.
I don't really understand why you would need to use a screen protector, because when you drop it, it wouldn't land on the screen but rather on the plastic and the joysticks, right? Or is there anything else I'm missing?
Yeah dropping it, nothing will help. It's to help with scratching and minor knocks and bumps. Say if you have it in your bag and maybe left your keys in there by accident. It scratches the protector and not your screen.
LOL I put 4 items, off this list, into my amazon cart... LOL It is $250.. And it isn't all of them. Sheeesh, just think about that. I still want a skin too, which is another $60.
I use the Sony WF-1000XXM3 wireless headphones with my steamdeck, android phone, and macbook and I have zero latency. So I think it's an airpods issue. Those things work well only with apple devices.
hahaha made me chuckle as you said, you put the skin on to make it stand out as you held it infront of your black and white, PS5, Xbox Series S, and OLED Switch buahahaha, thank you for that
Do you need a PC in order to use the steam deck? Only i signed up to Steam, but my laptop is ASUS and i don't have windows so i can't actually install steam. So would this affect me having a Steam Deck?
Arent the thumbgrips for Playstation and Xbox controllers too loose for the steam deck? There is alot of travel and comes off easily. Or isit just mine?
@@MainCave thats odd. I have a ps5 and switch at home. Both thumbgrips are either too small or too big lol. Thanks for clarifying there's probably smaller ones out there.
The Deck will only take what it needs. It’s really a case of saving money and only getting a 45w charger as higher is more expensive. Also stick to well known brands no matter what the charge 👍🏻
No it's fine. That's how Power Delivery (PD) works. The device will tell the charger how many watts it needs and then the charger just says "ok, here you go. Have x watts."
if i'm not mistaken there were some cases where 65 chargers would brick the deck, but i don't remember what was the exact case. not all were causing issue. and i think it was happening only when using it through a hub (but don't quote me on that). technically all should be fine with 65W as well. if it can deliver the 45W at the same voltage as the original charger, then it should be absolutely the same. but i'm no specialist.
Ive used anything from my nintendo switch brick to an international adaptor with a removable usb c extension that can do 61watt. Just dont dock it to nintendos docks & youl be fine.

The only thing I actually want for the Steam Deck is a carrying case that is ACTUALLY slim and follows the contours of the device (sticks buttons everything) adding milimeters on each side. I found one like that for the Switch when I was in Japan. It stays well protected, and slip into the bag very easily.... Sure, the official Valve one offers SERIOUS protection (you can seriously throw that thing around without worrying about the Steam Deck), but it also makes the Steam Deck 3x larger in a bag, and you don't need that kind of protection when it's in a backpack and on your daily commutes. The TomToc shown here offers way more versitile storage for peripherals, but is still of similar size... Hopefully one day I will find one. :) A case that only protects the device, and doesn't add much bulk.
My Steam Deck 512 GB was just delivered on Thursday, so I'm still shopping around for my first accessory. JSAUX dock model HB0604 sold out before I could order one, does another brand have an M.2 slot and charging but maybe not the built-in stand? Edit: just spotted the Selore&S-Global brand, are they good and are there others I should consider?
I personally can’t say good or bad of any dock that has m.2 as I haven’t got round to testing any yet. I am hopefully going to get the new one as I have made a video on the HB0603. Maybe add an m.2 drive to that, depending on speeds.
@@MainCave Just the usually reputable brands that have M.2 would be fine, I would like to save some research time by being pointed towards other reviewers that have covered them.
When it comes to the screen protector I had the same problem the second time I ordered one, the first one I got was perfect but a few dollars more. I messed up the first application. So I went to apply the second screen protector, but it fell from my closet shelf. It broke on impact leading me to bug a cheaper brand and have the same issue you had.
If you want to use wireless earbuds without any lag, then a 5.1 or 5.2 wireless earbuds of any description is recommended, or the Razor hammerhead last generation or latest is also recommended.
Note When you plug in the HDMI Cable The Steam Deck Screen goes black, displaying the picture on your TV & Monitor This is good, as prevents screen burn in for your Steam Deck screen I am relieved to see this - as screen burn in is always a concern of mine

I have the same travel keyboard/mouse and it works great. I was hesitant on the USB-C Hub as I had heard some of them were "bricking" the steam deck.
I’d definitely buy from a reputable brand just in case, the one I have has worked fine for weeks. If you’re worried wait for the official dock 👍🏻 I’m going to get one when it releases.
I'm for sure waiting on the official dock.
There are a few versions. This one is Bluetooth and dongle compatible.
I'll be getting the white skin as well. Although there waas a cool yellow Cyberpunk 2077 skin I saw on ALIEXPRESS that looked cool as well.
Thanx for the vid my brotha. Just received mines Wednesday
Good vid thanks. I'm still in Q3 so pretty soon, hopefully. Can you let me know more about that white 60% mechanical keyboard please ?
Q3, shouldn’t be too long now 🤞🏻
That keyboard is a Vissles 84. Will most likely feature it in my next SD video 👍🏻
@@MainCave Cool thanks. will sub now and look out for it
@@MainCave Ah its a 75%. didn't notice the function keys. V Nice for a stock board 🙂
So jealous when I see people having skins that actually fit without creasing or bubbling or peeling off. 🥺 Such a curvy device.
A lot of reapplying. A lot of hair drying. A lot of time 😢
I use a magnetic usb-c adapter, the adapter stay on my charging cable and the magnetic tip in the usb-c ports on my steam deck.
@@No0ne91 Cool, good to know. Thanks!
I use the dbrand travel case and its perfect for my needs, nice vid mate
I have a locked sling bag for my steam deck works perfect even has USB charging port and waterproof
Great list! I've got my deck ordered and I'm putting the accessories together while I wait.
I'm a dbrand fan boy after getting the case for my phone from them the teardown skins are amazing I will always suggest their brand
hi, instead of that anker hub, why not buy the kickstand dock hub so you get to save space and make it simplier?
Hi there. I couldn’t get hold of one at the time. I have one now and made a video on it 👍🏻
I use my Galaxy buds 2 pro with gaming mode turned on and experience no noticeable lag. Seems they do require an initial connection to a phone with Samsung wearables app in order to turn that feature on though. which is kind of lame I guess but not a problem for me
Im getting my deck at the end of august maybe 1st week of september and I will be able to use it in school 😍
Did you take the plastic off the screen protector? It looked like it was still on which might have been your problem.
I did. It was a glossy one so no good for the 512. I’d need an antiglare one but the screen is so good on the 512 I’m leaving it
EXCELLENT VIDEO MISTER
Thank you.
As a UK buyer, i just ordered and although haven't received email yet i wonder if there is any import tax?
I didn’t get any and know of several into the country that also didn’t. 👍🏻 HTH.
Thanks for this and subscribed. Glad to see more uk owners
If you don't mind me asking, how much was the tomtoc case? It's not longer available on amazon unfortunately so hopefully I can find it elsewhere for a similar price
Hi there 🇬🇧
The TomToc case is still on amazon if you follow my link in the description. I got it for £43 which it still is that price 👍🏻
He said "do do"
I'm 38 and I too giggle at that😂😂😂🤭😅😅😅🤭
The screen protector works better on the 64 and 256 models .
How many more hours of playtime would you say this powerbank delivers?
What keyboard and mouse are you using? And does that also work on the Steam Deck?
I’ve got a video out next week showing it all. I use 3 keyboards depending 😂 But the white one in the video is the Vissles V84 👍🏻
@@MainCave That's a good point, I didn't think about that, because I always put mine in the bag it comes with.
Trying to see if you can use two kickstand and Velcro tape a powerbank to the back for travel
Just be careful of the heat at the back especially the vent. Let me know if you do anything like that, be interested to know.
LOL I put 4 items, off this list, into my amazon cart... LOL It is $250.. And it isn't all of them. Sheeesh, just think about that. I still want a skin too, which is another $60.
recommend using 65w chargers only
what is that white keyboard in the background? looks great
I use the Sony WF-1000XXM3 wireless headphones with my steamdeck, android phone, and macbook and I have zero latency. So I think it's an airpods issue. Those things work well only with apple devices.
hahaha made me chuckle as you said, you put the skin on to make it stand out as you held it infront of your black and white, PS5, Xbox Series S, and OLED Switch buahahaha, thank you for that
😂 When I use my PS5 and Xbox on the bus
Just stumbled across your channel, love your content! Subbed!
Cheers. Really appreciate it 👍🏻
Nice
Do you need a PC in order to use the steam deck? Only i signed up to Steam, but my laptop is ASUS and i don't have windows so i can't actually install steam. So would this affect me having a Steam Deck?
No. You can do everything on the Steam Deck 👍🏻
I actually started using a Black shark phone cooler and it actually brings the Temps down about 15 cel when playing intense games
Good idea 👍🏻
I may use that for a future video. I will credit you for being the person that suggested it, its that OK? Thank you.
How does the fan attach to the steam deck, thanks
Quality - love your vids 👏👏 Interesting about the Airpods being laggy, thats disappointing!!
Not too bad, but enough for it to be noticeable.
I didn’t notice it too much, I’m using airpod pros.
So should I just leave the screen protector? Or is there any specific ones that look good for the 512gb model?
Screen protector on 64/256 but if you want one get an anti glare one for the 512.
The dbrand skins seem cool but the color options are lacking
Do those tumbstick caps nullify the capacitive top of the thumbsticks or can you still use that?
Hi there, I show it working in the video. No problems at all.
Looks like the stand for the steam deck touches the screen if you put the deck in. Does it make scratches in it?
Sorry i am not a native speaker.
It doesn’t. It’s good
I just ordered my SD today 512gb definitely getting d brand skins I have a dbrand ps5 cover and skin’s excellent quality.
Arent the thumbgrips for Playstation and Xbox controllers too loose for the steam deck? There is alot of travel and comes off easily. Or isit just mine?
Oh no! Mine fit great and don’t slip at all. Can you try some others? Thankfully they aren’t too expensive to try others. 👍🏻
@@MainCave thats odd. I have a ps5 and switch at home. Both thumbgrips are either too small or too big lol. Thanks for clarifying there's probably smaller ones out there.
I would not personally trust it not getting banged around in a suitcase in that carry case. Hardshell imo is much more protective.
Great video! That power bank I've been eyeing and I got an email from Amazon today that it's going on lightning sale tomorrow so I'll finally bite!
Get in!!!
I was told that the steam deck can only be charged at 45 watts will 65 damage it?
I switched my order to the 256gb model in late August thinking it would be delovered in earl 2023 to my surprise I received the email few days to conplete the payment. They really imcreased volume

12) Travel Keybaord

Keep your eye out for Dbrand to drop their case, it looks like a good one
It broke on impact leading me to bug a cheaper brand and have the same issue you had.
number one for me, by far, is the steam link.
If you want to use wireless earbuds without any lag, then a 5.1 or 5.2 wireless earbuds of any description is recommended, or the Razor hammerhead last generation or latest is also recommended.
Note
When you plug in the HDMI Cable
The Steam Deck Screen goes black, displaying the picture on your TV & Monitor
This is good, as prevents screen burn in for your Steam Deck screen
I am relieved to see this - as screen burn in is always a concern of mine
at minute 8.01 what type of outlet is that in the shape of a triangle my steam deck charger is the same I have not seen an outlet so what model is it
It’s a UK outlet
