Laura, to make your chickens happy when it is so hot there get a bundt pan and fill with garden scraps, pour water over it and freeze. The chickens here in the South love it!!!

I love how within a few weeks a patch of gravel can be turned into a gorgeous garden. The roses are lovely. Re roses, I've lost some to our harsh Canadian winters so last winter I covered my roses with these insulated wraps that are used to cover honey bee hives and I didn't lose a single rose!
After watching your videos I decided to use Nine Bark and Elderberry shrubs across my back fence. I love the lacy structure of their leaves (Lemony Lace, Black Lace).

Thank you Laura, I needed to see this video, I think the rose bushes I planted 4 or so years ago were a grafted kind, and then our hard winter hit and when they bloomed the next year the roses were a different color than the blooms originally were, which was sad because I had a beautiful peach rose, and now it blooms white. I almost want to dig them up and start over, and I just might. Can I tell you how much I love seeing the chickens in their run, how much fun this is. Everything is just so beautiful and I love seeing all the new plantings and the areas that everything is growing in. Thank you Laura and Aaron.

I love the tip I've noticed lately where you put the dug-out soil in the can so as not to mess up the nice mulch. Also, I think my one attempt with Butterfly Bush may have failed because I planted it too deep. Though, I have sandy soil so it should have worked anyway.
With all the roses you have, you may want to look into some rose hip jelly recipes. It tastes a little bit like honey. Very high in vitamin C (3 rose hips = one orange). My aunts and I would pick rose hips when we vacationed in the fall on the North Shore of Lake Superior then cook up the berries (after cleaning off the blossom ends), strain the juice and cook that with sugar and Sure-Gel or Certo pectin. Yum!

Are you letting the Rachio water system run its weather based flex schedule? We found that it works pretty well and saves a lot of water without having to get in there and mess with the schedule so much. California has also had the weirdest and wettest winter/spring and the Racho has been a champ in skipping days around rain events and picking up the pace as we've quickly moved into hotter days. It took a bit of faith to go hands off with the system, but it's great to watch it do its thing automatically.

Hint for a future video on roses...I know you planted some climbing roses at the arbors to the garden and hoping that you will do do a video on how to 'train' climbing roses ( how to trim and care for climbing roses). I have several climbing roses in my yard and have trouble keeping them looking nice. After all this rain we've been getting this spring, my roses are gorgeous but out of control.. They are so bushy at the bottoms which is causing problems with crowding the walkways. Are there secrets to maintaining a nice tight climbing rose, or do I need to just cutback or trim as needed without fear of damaging the plant? Thanks!!

The prettiest chicken coop! This is really beginning to feel strange to me, Laura! At least 3 or 4 times since I've been watching Garden Answer, I've mentioned how much I adore my Zephirine Drouhin climbing roses! I have one at the corner of my split rail fence & 2 more in my perennial bed across the back of my house. Those two are climbing on a three panel trellis that's nearly 7 feet tall. I planted them 15 or 20 years ago and they're all blooming like gangbusters! They have many wonderful attributes & being nearly thornless is one of the best! I was pleasantly surprised when you announced you were going to plant them around your new chicken coop! (Now, THIS is where it really gets crazy!) In response to one of your very recent videos where you showed us your Oso Easy "Paprika" rose bush, I commented that if you hadn't already done so, you should check out Oso Easy "Peachy Cream" roses. I got ready to watch this video tonight and I ALWAYS check out the description first. You could've knocked me down with a feather, Laura! Crazy coincidence? OR..."Great minds think alike"? Lol! I think the latter; but, remember the last part of that old saying, too: "Fools seldom differ"! Hahahahaha! Thanks for another lovely video! I love EVERY color of Oso Easy rose that I've seen! Well done! Again! Take care. God bless you! PLANT LOVE!🌾💜
