I could not believe my eyes when I saw the title of o day show! Roses!! Yay. I’m going to tell you about a rose and it’s not the cabbage rose you like but through all the years of all the roses I’ve planted it’s remained my favorite.. First of all it’s hardy. I’ve literally had to yank one out of a raised bed situation where it was sorely neglected during 100+ temperatures and transplanted it and it just kept on going. The flower starts off looking like a red bud but opens up to white inside with a touch of pale yellow, and it’s a large flower. It blooms through out the season with an occasional short rest. But here’s the kicker-the fragrance!- it’s unbelievable. I will sometimes cut some to bring in but eve more often I will grab all the petals off one that is fully open and throw them in a bowl or decorative box in my art studio and that fragrance will last for weeks. I love ‘Double Delight’ rose.
I'm so interested in seeing this rose garden develop. You pronounce Eglantyne correct, it is a ladies name and Anglea Landsbury played Eglantyne, a school teacher, in Disney's Bedknobs and Broomsticks. A family movie night idea! Thanks Laura and Arron for sharing your space!
Hi Laura. Your choice of roses are beautiful. The rose garden is going to look amazing when in bloom. Beautiful! Can't wait to see them. Awesome video. Take care. 💚👍👌🌿🍒🌱🌲
The original eglantine (note different spelling) is a very old European shrub rose also called "sweet briar" that was often mentioned in English poetry; the one specific mention I recall offhand is in Keats' "Ode to a Nightingale". It has single petaled pink flowers in spring/early summer and has actually become invasive in some parts of the world including some parts of the U.S. because the English took it everywhere. I think I had one at one of the houses I used to own that I harvested from a 19th century family cemetery that I cleaned up in the 1970s because the pictures of it online look like what I had and the stated growth habit (sprawling) matches. The ending is pronounced like "tine" on a fork. The plant you planted is labeled a shrub rose and maybe the original eglantine figures in its ancestry, or the scent is similar, etc.

That was so sweet to watch everyone working together ❤️ ❤. Excited for the rose garden! I literally bought 8 roses this year already (impressionist, apricot n cream, julia child, sweet mademoiselle, elle, angel face, state of grace and citiscape bordeaux) and I am not even sure where to put it! 😂😅
Just saw "Moonlight in Paris" (avail Heirloom Roses) at my local garden center yesterday and thought "Laura would love this one!" Huge swoon. Ivory pink as it matures but the center is a smokey pink apricot the glows in the sun. Keep it in mind, Laura!❤😍
Aaron gets his roses! Thought they would go in the square areas by the Hartley. I have ordered from Heirloom Roses and they have been great. Always excited to see what new project there will be. Maybe those climbing roses can go on the arbors that you just put over the stone walkway. They would be beautiful to walk through towards the cut flower gardens.

I’m sure that this won’t be a problem for you as you’ve got quality stock, good airflow, and amended soil. Looking forward to seeing the progress.💕

Love this! Molineux is pronounced mol-in-yew, it's the nearest football stadium to the David Austin site. Seeing lots more roses I'm going to need to go and fetch to add to the garden! The Dortmund and Darlow's Enigma would look great going over the triple arbour in the south garden!
So exciting. Grew up with a large ancient rose garden which I successfully reinvigorated (because I was told by experts it wouldn’t work 😬) from years of rabbit pruning. Many hadn’t flowered in years. It was wonderful to witness the first blooms which were all beautiful old tea roses. Didn’t dead head them for my sister’s wedding; just went round on the morning of knocking all the petals off which laid heavily underfoot and blew around in the gentle summer breeze. Heavenly day…. 🌹🥀💐🥀🌹🥀💐
So excited seeing roses go in. Being a Pacific Northwest person, I’ve had a long love of roses and am thrilled we all will have the opportunity of watching your gardens flow with such a tremendous variety. It was exciting watching the whole A Team working together to create the new rose home. What a great addition to your creative dreams. We look forward to gorgeous flower arrangements this summer and the years to come.
I'm so excited for your rose garden with the brick border. That means that I'm committed to your site for 1-2 more years, God willing. I have become more of a rosebush lover in my yard in recent time.

I can see one of those 10 x 10s on the end arching over the bench! Be still my heart! You always weave me right into your web! ❤🎉
How exciting! My Princess Charlene de Monaco is in it's second year and finally getting bigger blooms and smells so good! Can not wait to see all of your roses in bloom!
Thank you Paul and Bethany for agreeing to be shown! So fun!
So thrilled you are doing a rose garden at the scale that only you guys could do. Can’t wait to see these come to life. You had a question about this recently and your answer suggested that something might be in the works. 🌹 🌹 🌹
Glad to see the 'Golden Celebration' from David Austen. We bought 2 yesterday in 3 gal pots to honor our 50 th anniversary next year. We had yellow roses at our wedding, so...
Glad Aaron has his rose garden. Thanks for sharing.
It was fun to to see Aaron working in the garden with you! You guys are great and so enjoyable to follow. I learn so much with each video I watch.
I’m so glad you chose Golden Celebration. I planted it last year and it really grew, but no blooms. You should see it now! Lots of the most beautiful blooms ever!!! Another great rose with lots of blooms is Vanessa Bell.
Your choices are amazing!! What a stunning garden. Several of my favs on there.
I have the song "I never promised you a rose garden" stuck in my head. You got a rose garden!
Wonderful roses Laura they will be amazing .🌺🌹🌺
How very exciting!! Fun to have an abundance of roses for cut flower arrangements! Love it!! 💕❤ And yay for pretty labels!! 👍🏻
Love roses, can't wait to see them in bloom
Roses!! Yaaaaayyyyyy! ❤❤🎉
Oklahoma, and Amazing Grace are wonderful as well.
Great choices!
It's always fun to see the other staff at Garden Answer. It's great fun whether it's editing staff, garden staff and outside vendors.
Amazing!!
I would LOVE it if, once they've grown, you could do a demo on how to cut them for vases - especially the grandiflora ones 😊
You are a trooper….talking to us with your sore mouth…I do believe that the dentist just grinds the top of the tooth and no pain killers required….Thank you for your videos
Oh also! Grace Rose Farm has AMAZING looking roses that are exclusively sold by her. Definitely look into them! They look like the DA wedding roses that we can’t grow, but are so fluffy and cute!
This is going to be spectacular 🙌 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌸🌸🌸🌸
I’ve always wanted a rose(I’d be happy with just one lol)
Can’t wait to learn more about caring for them.
I can’t wait to learn that also! 😊
I LOVE Heirloom Roses. The roses arrive in great condiotion and the support on their web site is excellent. I am looking forward to this project🤗🌷
Oh I can’t wait to see all of the beautiful colors of roses in bloom ❤
You've chosen beautiful roses, won't be long till we see them in all their glory.
Seeing Aaron using the auger to dig holes for Laura!!! 🙌 🙌
Laura your such a hard worker, that it moved me to see you with an awsome team of help. To see a man (Paul) with his sleeves rolled up working.💪 My Dad is 81 and active. He would not be standing by watching. Keeps him young.
I always appreciated that you integrated your roses in your flower beds. I always have thought that having so many roses all planted close together while beautiful, can also be difficult to control pests and diseases. I’m sure that this won’t be a problem for you as you’ve got quality stock, good airflow, and amended soil. Looking forward to seeing the progress.💕
I have died and gone to heaven! I love this rose garden! The choices you have made are beautiful Laura. I can’t wait to see them in full bloom. I need to up my roses with Heirloom Roses…I have to check them out! Just curious do they all have a scent to them? I have some Knockout Roses that doesn’t smell. I truly didn’t know that there were roses that didn’t have a scent to them until I got the Knockout Roses.
Love this! Molineux is pronounced mol-in-yew, it's the nearest football stadium to the David Austin site. Seeing lots more roses I'm going to need to go and fetch to add to the garden! The Dortmund and Darlow's Enigma would look great going over the triple arbour in the south garden!
Thanks for the much-needed help with the pronunciation!
Love roses! Cannot wait to see what varieties!
