- The Goodwood Festival of Speed is full of amazing sounding racing cars. From V12 screaming hypercars, to V10 and V8 howls of F1 and GT cars and even the odd great-sounding straight-six and inline-four Touring Car. It's quite hard to pick the best ones, but we thought we might as well have a go. So these are what we think are the best-sounding cars on the Goodwood Hill.

The Porsche RSR, Ferrari 512S and Sauber C9 all sound excellent in their own ways, but the sound of the Pagani Huayra R is just perfection!
perfection is it's only flaw. the Porsche sounds almost perfect, but it sounds nasty, that is why it sounds better than the Huayra

True story
Some people would say that for Italian cars Ferrari's or Lambos sound the best, but for me it's the Pagani's. I still remember the Zonda R. They are just pure eargasms.
@@theredguy8746 i still prefer Lamborghini in general but i do love the sound of Pagani's, but my favourite sounding italian car has to be the Murcielago LP-670-4 Super Veloce

Can't be stressed enough that sound is just a big a factor for enjoying a car as speed on the road.

Exactly, that’s why even if EVs have impressive performance they seem soulless, inert, empty…. Zero emotion and passion.
For me, it's the mechanics of it all. Making something out of raw materials to produce something so powerful it screams.
More fun to drive a slow car that sounds great than drive a fast one that sounds boring imo

It’s sad but the T50 doesn’t actually sound that great. It’s too smooth and not throaty enough.
T50 is not that great, it’s just a loud noise tbh not much depth to it

to be honest the T50 sounds nice but too polite, there's not drama or grit to it. while a Huayra sounds like a trumpet, the T50 sounds like a flute
I've never been into many prewar cars but that Fiat S76 is awesome. Perfect example of why this event is so cool. As I would have never know or taken interest in a car like that normally but seeing (and hearing) it on the hill climb a few years ago made me look into it.
Today they have excuses like tires not holding up for speed records... look up the old Mercedes and Audi (Auto Union)... they ran over 400 Km/h (250 mph) before WW2. Record was 432 Km/h. Absolutely crazy stuff.
What's mad about the fiat as well is that is driven to and from the event from Bristol as well! Such a weird vehicle to see ok the road

The Fiat S76 is more felt than heard. Each exhaust stroke is like a 20hz note to the chest. Absolute beast to feel up close. Surprised the McLaren Chevrolet M8F Can-Am didn't make the cut.
The McLaren has in the past, I think they like to try and mix it up a little every year so it's not just the same video every time.

I feel like the Valkyrie`s sound is being restricted for road homologation, maybe that`s why it doesn`t scream like the AMR pro

I actually think the normal Valkyrie sounds better than the AMR Pro. An aftermarket exhaust would definitely make the Valkyrie sound crazy though
I'm not convinved the Valkyrie reached anywhere near peak RPM either on its runs up the hill.
Hearing that Sauber C9 on Sunday was something else. Plus that Valkyrie sounds absolutely phenomenal, especially off the line. And that Ferrari 512S was the single loudest car I've heard in my entire life. Was just incredible.

Nissan Primera - so beautiful old school engine symphony! and the king of the race car engine sounds imo, the 911 RSR. Amazing.

The Ferrari 512S and the Pagani are on another level. One mean deep roar and a road F1 sound. They both sound "Racing". Amazing.
Man, the Valkyrie and Huayra R sound so beautiful I wanna cry.
That Speirling is one of the coolest piece of engineering to come out in a while. Excited to see what else that team can come up with in the future.
The joy of the people at the start line when the RSR took off was just so great to see! It was just great to be there!
There’s something special that I couldn’t explain about Porsche’s flat 6 sounds. It just sounds so attractive

Love how the Huayra and the RSR prove that we still know how to make a car sound amazing. And the Spéirling shows us the electric future looks bright!
T.50 is so underrated. That car is pure genius. How much does it weigh? What does the engine rev up to? Imagine what Gordan Murray could've done if he did what Aston did with the Valkyrie. Also wish the T.50 Nikki Lauda was there. Also the T.33.

Its a great car, but definitely not underrated… it has received a lot of credit over the years despite it’s looks
The Valkyrie and also the AMG One are increasingly looking like silly ideas when compared to the t.50 and t.33. I'd feel like a complete idiot driving the Valkyrie around on anything other than a track. Murray's vision and philosophy is so far ahead of these other "cars" it's almost embarrassing.

The Valkyrie is a joke compared to the T.50. The T.50 is better in every single parameter imho.
It's not AMs bad effort - It's just that King Murray came back can aced it all again - Worst AM timing.
Not sure what a electric car does in that list, but my favourites of this list are the Huayra R, Valkyrie and of course the 911 RSR.

The EV has no place here. All the other vehicles are designed for another purpose, and are just taking on the hill as well. Most are race cars with heritage, and competitive seasons behind them. The EV was built simply to drive 1.2 miles up the hill. It’s just a publicity stunt. Let’s see it do a 200 lap GP. Or 60 laps of BTCC?

Ofc the V12 are sexy, but props to that primera for producing nice sound from 4 cylinders
911 RSR's sound is so great. Hearing them scream through the forest in Spa was a wonderful time of my life 🎶😍
Saw them at Silverstone myself and words can’t express just how loud they are! My ears were ringing for a while.
The Huayra sound absolutely wonderful, for me it sounds barely better than that RSR

RSR is the most visceral sound ever, the Huayra R is the most unique. IMO respectively.

In order to get the best results of the best sounding cars on the hill, Goodwood still has to sort out their sound for the livestream....... for too many years now they have piled out the same confusing soundtrack of having the wrong microphone synced to the wrong camera feed, or having more than one microphone input to one camera feed. You'd have thought they'd have got it sorted by now, but it's the same every year........ production values need to be higher........
Do you remember seeing advertisements during the feed? …No? Just be happy they are doing this. They could say, wanna see it live? Come on out.

Nobody comments on the sweet symphony of the 635csi inline 6 with side exhaust...it brings me back to my childhood when I watched the Group A races at Vila do Conde urban circuit, in the north of Portugal. There were also a couple M1's, who had more or less the same engine. I just love it!

the Ferrari's sound at 4:30 is beyond beautiful
333SP sounds great, indeed. Too bad, that the driver didn't give that car a full blast. 😔 It seems, that he was driving "low & slow" for most of the run and that really didn't do an justice for 333SP's sound.
definitely the best sounding car in the video with maybe the mp4/5 but even yet this video didnt include the best clips of those vehicles

Whilst the McMurtry was without doubt hugely impressive, one of the best sounds it was not. For example, there was more than McLaren F1 going up the hill, and they sound much, much better.

The McMurtry Speirling's sound doesn't come out very well in the video. Had you been at Goodwood in person, you would have understood why the McMurtry is included in this video. It sounds like a fighter jet.

Every year I’m at goodwood I have a different overriding memory I take away. I remember in 2019 it was the smell, I was on the start line for the nascar runs early morning, and there were loads there that year, the smell of ethanol race fuel and exhaust, the smell of tyres burning. I remember my senses like it was yesterday.
This year it was the sound. That Pagani, idling at I don’t know what revs, the s14’s rotary scream gave me goosebumps half a mile away, and that McMurtry, the most pure sound of speed, gone before you even knew what was happening.
What an event.

Finally the 991 RSR is getting respect it deserves, which is the most violent and visceral sound a car has ever produced. Seriously going to miss the GTE-Pro class. 😢
#1 and #2 are infact my respective favorite cars, being a huge Porsche nut the RSR will always have my unwaivering love and preference. The Huayra R is by far thr most unique sounding machine ever created, even more so than the Zonda R or an F1 car. The visceral scream combined with the insanely loud induction noise is pure beauty.
I think the Valkyrie was a bit snuffed, definitely an amazing car looks, performance, and sound. Maybe the AMR version will show better but still I feel the 6-7 cars ahead of it were less sound appealing TBH. And the complaint of the vid, why on earth is there an electric car on a "best sound" vid? 🤯

.... a car has ever produced? It's definitely up there but I'd say the 787B would have a more visceral sound along with the 1995 Ferrari 412 T2.
I haven't heard either of those so that's only my guess but I have heard the glorious C9 at full tilt as well the 991 RSR and the C9 definitely left more of an impression (thank goodness for historic racing and for living so close to Sebring).
One thing that helps older cars to have that raw sound is their manual or less sophisticated gearboxes that violently slam into gears when shifting up. The C9's redline shift from first to second sent out literal shockwaves that only (in my experience) the C6R came close to replicating.

Now imagine a world with only electric cars. It’s not just about the speed…sound plays a big role.
And the electric McMurty sounds fantastic, not to mention the SPEED. That thing would get my adrenaline pumping the most. Everything else sounds great, but they're more show than go at this point.
Yeah that would be pretty depressing. I would no longer be a car guy that's for sure.

Sauber sounds like something from a prehistoric savannah; terrifying! Z4 and Porsche were fine sounding machines. Pagani was exquisitely blood curdling!
Can't believe that McMurtry is on here but not the Chiron SS 300, that thing growled like a lion.
it would be nice to see engine specs and other info on each car for this video but also in general for all the car runs at goodwood. however for this video, the sound is so inconsistent that it really misses the entire point of watching it
criticisms aside, thanks so much for posting all the content it’s really awesome to be able to experience so much of what happened at the festival and i’m sure i’m able to see more thru the videos than than i would have at the actual event. viva la speed

I got to #2 being the Huayra R, and I was like "what could possibly be #1?" Then I remember Porsche always brings race cars to Goodwood.
i dont think the list is actually in order because of them putting an electric car ahead of the 333sp and them putting the huayra r and 911 rsr ahead of the mp4/5

Much better choice than last year, where about a third of the cars on the list were EVs that had *only* the electric screwdriver whine. 120dB of jet noise? Works for me.

@@rdfox76 I mean what we expect about what an EV engine could sound? is a electrical rotor engine, of course sound as that, high frecuency/volts/capacitance can make more power to the engine, and more sound as that.

For me the golden age of prototype racing was 333sp, panoz esperante lmp1, Audi r8 lmp, Bentley speed 8.
+BMW V12 LMR and let's give the Merc CLK GTR's a mention as well.
Just back from GFOS on Monday, 4 days of petrol head nirvana, awesome. For me the first 2 are bang on, although I would have the Pagani 1st, Porsche RSR 2nd, Senna Maclaren 3rd The event this year was amazing, start to finish the best motorsport event ever,
The Speirling is just ridiculous fast. Unfortunately electric super cars are going to take over. I’m glad I won’t see the end of the combustion engine.
