I find it weird that placing a tracker device on someone else's property without their permission is legal, a HUGE loophole that needs to be filled ASAP.
Well there are a number of other ways someone can track you now, or just follow you. I suppose people have been following people for centuries. I would bet most of these women are being tracked by their boyfriends or husbands.
Women have been taking these tracking devices to the police the cops told these women sometimes Human Traffickers use them to track down potential victims. Telling people if they find one on their car don’t go home drive to the nearest police station or drive to a well lit public parking lot like a shopping center and call the police. The women wanted to share their stories on Facebook
The loophole that they were aware of and knew exactly where it will lead. Just like darker side of the tag, thieves are government’s best friends. They help governments bring more security measures in place which is nothing but govts tools of control and surveillance for the general population. More technological security measures; more cameras, 5G, AI, facial recognition, gun control, security and police drones etc many more to come in the very near future. You want your life to be safe and secure? Don’t worry the government got it! They catch thieves, mass media does its thing then most of them get released with no charges. As there is nothing for the government mafia to get from them anyway and there aren’t enough cells to keep them all locked up they just let them go, but media won’t tell you that side of story. You all just continue with your lives believing that bustard they showed on 6 o’clock news last night is finally got caught and prisoned.
Apple should expand this tracker to include two way tracking. Making is so the object can also locate the owners phone. That way if the owner gets separated from their property it can be returned but also so that in cases like this the thieves can be located.
Apple "didn't come up with a solution" and the technology isn't "so new" - Apple just took the idea from Tile which has been providing this tech for years. Apple just have a larger ecosystem so it's more effective. Also, airtags are not GPS devices. Apple can presumably identify the owner and account link for any airtag.

Each one of these trackers has an individual serial number that is registered to the user. This is both printed on the tag and readable by the Bluetooth devices that read it. All apple needs is a court order to identify the users name to the police.

You don't have to 'change the law from back 150 years ago..." Technology has not '"surpassed the law.." Placing tracking devices on people's car's property, etc, are violations of privacy and stalking laws and should be prosecuted as such.
Or you can prevent any violation by forcing Apple to link every airtag to an ID. Apple would be pissed for sure since the sales numbers would likely plummet.
Yeah, I was pretty astonished when he said that anyone could place a tracking device on a vehicle in a public setting. How is this a thing? People should not even be touching other people’s cars let alone attaching something to them.
This is scary when their calling this legal when it's actually stalking someone not tracking because now they can get all your information and use it against you
Air tag tracking data should also be made available to a 3rd party, like Apple itself. If you are tracked unknowingly and then notified, you should be able to see the history and at least know when/where it was attached.
It already is. Air Tags identify themselves to any nearby iPhone or iPad. It's just an identification number. The iPhone then adds the GPS coordinates of the iPhone itself and transmits that to Apple. The owner of the Air Tag knows the registration number of that Air Tag and can look up the most recent detection and presumably the tracking history. Apple announces that the Air Tag does not keep a history; and while that part is true, it is also slightly misleading. The Air Tag does not *need* to keep a history because the nearby iPhone and the servers that manage the network keep the history.
The problem is that this been happening before Apple Air Tags. They have Tile, Samsung Smart Tag, hell they got Tractive which is weather proof used for dogs to track cars. This has been happening for years. The only reason Air Tags are being discover because Apple products talk to each other. If you have a apple phone, iPad or even a computer, they will detect the air tag. Android, you are screwed. This isn't new folks. Nope these people know air tags can be easily detected, they are going to go back to Tile or what brand they use to use.
They say there is a device that can auto search for hidden cameras in a room just like a device that can detect if ANY device like that is on your vehicle would be something to consider.
Yes and no. Yes, I have no doubt that people have been using consumer gadgets to illegally track people without their knowledge before AirTag arrived on the market. BUT, devices like Tile and Smart Tag only use Bluetooth to supply location. Bluetooth peters-out beyond 100', usually much less. So tracking a car across town is not possible that way. The pet tracker you mentioned CAN long-range track though. This category has been on the market for years and uses a cell phone SIM card to ping the company's server when requested by the customer. There are more costs and much more paper trail associated with this kind of method. What sets the AirTag apart from all of these things is that they are dirt cheap, readily available and (mostly) anonymous. AirTag cleverly leverages the worldwide population of OTHER peoples' Apple products without their knowledge, but I'm sure consent is given when you click "agree" on the 10 pages of legaleese included with every iOS update, lol. Luckily, any AirTag constantly in your proximity leaves a hint that it's there. You get a notification that something is pinging you.

A good design solves problems without replacing them nor creating an even bigger one. I do not believe that Apple couldn't see the side effects of this product overweighting the lost keys. The thing is that probably 'the problem' airTags are solving isn't our lost essentials, but rather something closer to Apple's own needs. And compared to that goal, the public safety is secondary.
This is exactly what's happening. It would have been easy for them to make something that didn't produce all of these problems, but they want to have users create an even larger tracking network for them. There are now hundreds of thousands of these additional nodes collecting location data between apple phones all over the world whether they're the owners of the device or not.
Except the problem has already been solved ever since the launch. Airtag would give people a notification when the airtag is start tracking and in your area. You can also tap it with your phone and get the contact info of the owner so you can give it back. It's not rocket science to google stuff ngl.
Apple should add the option of being able to immediately disable the device for tracking in addition to the alert. Apple tags are popular because they track better due to all the iphones out there.

Probably a Tile. While still problematic they don't have nearly the network or reach as Apple. You're comparing something that requires an app to be downloaded on a phone for it to update the location of the tracker when it comes near it to a tracker that gets its location updated by over 50% (on average in the US) of the phones that come near it.
The biggest problem is that in order to get a notification that someone has planted a tracking device on your vehicle, you have to have an iPhone. Android users are just going to be kept in the dark unless Apple releases some sort of fix for this. And what are the ethical bounds for that? The law is severely lagging for the people here.
@@GamerRadar let's be realistic here, how many people know that such an app exists, and do the police know this as well in order to advise android users?
That private detective is FOS. You cannot attach a tracking device on a vehicle without the consent of the owner even if it's parked in a public area. Consent would be like contracts from a "buy here/pay here" used car dealer where you sign to allow them to attach the device to the vehicle to ease in repossession if you fail to pay. Even the police need a probable cause warrant to use trackers. . You can attach one to your own vehicle but must inform the driver if you loan your car, or probably better to just remove it. Anyone else could be charged under Federal Wiretapping laws.
There are other GPS trackers out there and always been. This has been the first one that can be discovered instantly by iPhone users. The other ones can’t. While there has been genuine instances of AirTags being used to track people this isn’t one of them. Judging by the screenshot she posted which says "Unknown Accessory Detected" this was caused by AirPods. If it was an AirTag causing the notification it would've specifically said "AirTag Detected" and it would show and give instructions on how to disable it. Lots of people have had this issue with their own or friends AirPods Pro causing this Find My notification to pop up which people automatically presume to be an AirTag due to the inaccurate media coverage such as this.
The airplay will automatically make a noise when it's separated from its owner? Wouldn't that be all the time after it's put on someone else's vehicle.

We need to have a FEDERAL law that prevents people from using trackers on your car. That CURRENT law in Georgia is extremely dangerous for people who have no idea that they are being tracked. That law must be changed immediately.
This isn't new technology. Tile has been around for about a decade. Apple Airtag has been around for less than a year. I guess the big difference is that the air tag can tap into a larger, broader network. So much for Apple claiming they value your privacy over other devices or systems.
I wonder if they can put in place a registration system. Like, before the Airtag will work, you have to register it on a website that syncs with Apples tracking service and you have to provide your personal and contact information or a photo of ID. I mean, dating apps do that now to ensure the safety of their user base. Shouldn't be that difficult to implement with these things.
Then you will be giving apple everything and maybe even authorities who want the information. People see a problem and then want complex solutions without realizing that it creates a whole set of new problems that maybe worse than the original problems.

Time to think like a thief, and here is what I think they are doing. They spot a person in a store, coffee shop, etc., who looks like they can afford to own nice things. Once they have chosen their victim, they place a tracking device on that person's vehicle and track them for a week or two to pinpoint where they live and their daily habits. When the time is right, they burglarize the person's home and make off with the loot. It becomes a game for them. The Air Tag leverages a nearby iPhone for GPS and relaying into the internet. If the driver is using an Android phone (LG, Samsung, etc) the AirTag won't work. In other words, the Air Tag cannot by itself transmit its location; it does not know its location! However, your phone knows its location and thus any nearby Air Tag must be within about 30 feet or so of your iPhone.
Lots of questions . How are we able to protect ourselves against it !?? Are there any apps that discover them in or on a car ? Especially with a non apple phone ?
If you don't have an iPhone the airtag wont work because the airtag is actually using the closest iPhone it can detect to show the location. so it technically the iphone is showing the location and not the airtag itself.

If you find an airbag or any other tracking device on your car, it belongs to you. The US Supreme Court ruled in a 1957 case where a scammer would place dollar bills on windshields and then have drivers arrested for theft if they didn’t pay blackmail that anything put on a car belonged to the owner. The federal courts have included boots and barnacles placed by law enforcement in that context. Anyone boots your car, including city parking enforcement, you remove it yourself by any means and it now belongs to you. The moment a bug of any type is placed on a vehicle it becomes property of the owner even if placed by law enforcement under a search warrant. The US Supreme Court in the 1970s turned away an appeal by the FBI about this. A leaflet placed on a car becomes the property of the owner if they care to claim it. The other side of the coin is that if you remove a boot yourself and the booter tries to take it from you, that is robbery and you are allowed to defend your new property by any legal means at your disposal. Police and judges aren’t aware of the law in this regard and often get nasty shocks when the tables are turned on them in court. This is also why many municipalities are abandoning boots and barnacles in the US. The cost of replacing them after people take them is just too high. They also can’t charge them with theft, because the boots now belong to the owners of the vehicles after the police “gifted” the boots to them. Same thing with ANY tracking device. Doesn’t matter who put it there or why.
The reporter never asks the person who they think might have placed it there. Ex boyfriend or husband? Title loan company wanting to track the asset in case the person defaults on the loan? Some of these "buy here, pay here" used car places will place trackers on the cars too.

It sounds like it's time for Apple to make an app available for most mobile devices that can detect and warn about these unwelcome devices they are peddling! Also, I wonder if Apple going to continue down their same path of supporting criminals and shirking corporate responsibilities or will they provide the owner information for the tag/recipient of the tracking data to the subject being tracked or to law enforcement? Without the need for court issued warrants? Only time will tell I suppose.
Trackers have been in use for years in the used car, "buy here pay here" industry. They are installed on vehicles so the finance company can easily locate it's whereabouts in the event of a repossession. Some types are actually wired into the ignition system which allows the vehicle to be disabled and therefore stationary until the tow truck arrives. It's not that alarming. The used car lot is supposed to remove the tracking device once the vehicle loan is paid off, but many times, that never happens.

@@chris135x Because it is an anonymous network that operates across billions of users. It is a tool with limited ability yet everybody is freaking out when their phone can already do all of this.
Apple better be able to instantly identify the phone the tag is actually registered to, locate that phone, and get these criminals under law enforcement's thumb. Car thieves and human traffickers are the main concern. I find it very alarming that it's mostly either dudes with cars valuable on the black market for scrap or young women. The law hasn't caught up is some BS this is technological stalking. No one should have to get kidnapped or killed for lawmakers to write something up.
car thief's are tracking expensive or desirable vehicles or potentially wealthy or desirable people... it should be made illegal to place any devise on someone else's property. PERIOD..
If you didn’t put it there. Find it and destroy it. If the person complains that you destroyed their property - tell the judge it was there for 30 days or more and it was abandoned. You can do whatever you want with abandon items.
The air tag notifies you if it is separated from the user. This isn't an issue as described. Portable gps devices already exists that use wifi/LTE and can track people.
This is just a tool. Stalkers and others that intrude on the lives of potential victims have been engaging in problematic behavior for years. You are your own best defense.
Then : Apple introduces AirTag World : “Tracker are on the market since years. Again Apple is years late” Apple : Our tracker actually warn you if an unrecognized tag is close by World : Let’s sue Apple , this is irresponsible ! Tile, Samsung, Chipolo : 🤫
It is possible to buy a detector that can detect the presence of a tag and locate them. When you find the tag you can snap it in half with a pair of pliers. It is impossible to find the owner of the tag if there are no ID markings on it. If you think you are being tagged and tracked invest in a detector for tags.
I find it weird that placing a tracker device on someone else's property without their permission is legal, a HUGE loophole that needs to be filled ASAP.
Maybe we should just ban this kind of technology. This technology shouldn’t be available to the public as some convenient device
Well there are a number of other ways someone can track you now, or just follow you. I suppose people have been following people for centuries. I would bet most of these women are being tracked by their boyfriends or husbands.
Animal crualty is a federal offence but animal testing cosmetics and household chemicals are legal. Laws are to control not protect
🙏🏾

Each one of these trackers has an individual serial number that is registered to the user. This is both printed on the tag and readable by the Bluetooth devices that read it. All apple needs is a court order to identify the users name to the police.

Air tag tracking data should also be made available to a 3rd party, like Apple itself. If you are tracked unknowingly and then notified, you should be able to see the history and at least know when/where it was attached.
YES

Apple had the foresight to tell you when you are being followed. What about all the other trackers that have been around for years? There should be laws to protect people and the police should be able to backtrack the owner.
Only if you own an iPhone. If you own an android phone or no smartphone, you would never know the tag is present. Stop praising Apple for releasing a problem without any solution.
@@DirectionlessStudent Apple didn't create the problem, it already existed from other manufactures. Its apples solution that is drawing light to it.
I’m wondering how many stalkers are now saying “wow, gotta get me some of those.” Was this video advertisement?
The reporter never asks the person who they think might have placed it there. Ex boyfriend or husband? Title loan company wanting to track the asset in case the person defaults on the loan? Some of these "buy here, pay here" used car places will place trackers on the cars too.
randoms are doing it to steal cars as well. that or sex trafficking as well as crazy exes are just some of the possibilities.
A great phone feature would be anti-spy features. Camera detection, etc.

There must be something wrong with me because I'm far more interested in telling people where to go than I am tracking them.
Lol same
lol, me too.
What most don't realize is that many used car lots that offer high risk financing do this...mainly for repo recovery, if necessary.
Is this a problem now because Apple did it better than tile?
That’s actually a good thing that apple has this. Because there have been other trackers for YEARS. And those won’t notify you if it’s near you. 🤷🏽♀️ (obviously if you have an iPhone)
yeah, only problems are, like you said, you need to have an iphone to get the notification. they could also just use the other brands and people won't get any notification. crazy scary world we live in.
@@tourmii true. I have trackers on all of my work vehicles and no one that drives them is aware.

Bruhhhhh u funny asf🤣😂🤣🤣🤣😂
How do they know they are being tracked?
Trackers have been in use for years in the used car, "buy here pay here" industry. They are installed on vehicles so the finance company can easily locate it's whereabouts in the event of a repossession. Some types are actually wired into the ignition system which allows the vehicle to be disabled and therefore stationary until the tow truck arrives. It's not that alarming. The used car lot is supposed to remove the tracking device once the vehicle loan is paid off, but many times, that never happens.
I'd imagine there are more sophisticated tracking devices on the market.
But not for $29.
I’ve been saying this for awhile now 3:03 the laws need to constantly be updated with current times and current things. Don’t just sit and shrug shoulders and scratch heads, saying oh well the law says! Do something about it or get refreshed, take action ppl who are willing to protect victims not criminals.

It is funny how people want to laws for everything. We will get to the point were there will be laws for going to the toilet.

You can’t be caught sticking flyers on a vehicle for similar reasons.
They are private property.
The advertising fliers are kind of a gray area. It has to be a private parking lot and must have permission from the owners to solicit and have liability insurance. I've been to many car shows and other hobby events only to return to my car to find my wipers filled with ads and business cards. There are some rules that have to be followed like the ad has to be relevant to the venue you're at. In other words, if you're at a car show they can't place ads about a mattress sale. You can opt-out by placing a sign "No Solicitation Please."
Once you don;t damage the car putting the tracker on
I can't think of a law that prevents this in a public area.
@@johnoconner1790 So, if your car is parked on a public street, does that give me the right to claim that it's mine and tow it away? Do you know how to use google?
@@lizard944 No, it gives you the right to stick a flyer on the windshield or put a GPS tracker on it. The private investigator knows what he's talking about.
Hence why you call the police when it happens
That was good until the end. But left me with a question. If you have an iPhone you can get alerted to the tag's presence and find it. If you don't have an iPhone AND you know where the tag is, of course you can disable it. But if you don't have an iPhone, can you still get a notification that there is a tracking device on the car? Or can only iPhones detect the tags?
There needs to be an app that alerts you right away if any signal is detected immediately around your car, instead of having to identify that the signal is following you some distance.
It sounds like this is a problem with Georgia law. In California any tracker on a car is illegal.
Apple anticipated this and that’s why it notifies you. A search warrant will easily reveal who the owner is so this is a stupid method and mainly only happens in states where it’s not illegal.
If tracking devices are illegal in CA, you need to get rid of your car because it has a tracing device in it installed by the manufacturer of the vehicle!!!!

Ugh everything is a conspiracy. Apple might actually be the one company that’s the most dedicated to user privacy. They have “app privacy report” and it literally shows you what apps are being tracked and what information they’re getting from you. No other company does this.
Also usually if you’re gonna get an air tag, you already have an iPhone and/or Apple Watch, so they don’t need another device just to track you.

Why isn't apple registering these tags to the people who buy them? That would solve teh problem right there.
"Don't go home so they won't find out where you live."
Well, if they went up to the vehicle to hide the tag, they could have just written down the license plate number and find your address from that.
No MVD (nor the police) are just going to hand over an address because someone has a plate number and they want to know the address it’s associated with. I’d challenge anyone who is not authorized access to a database that links license plates to addresses to try and find out someone’s address based solely off a plate number.
@@Richaag that type of information probably leaks everyday due to crooked cops and gov employees. Granted it's not suppose to, stuff is only as private as the person accessing it sadly.

The problem of Tracking Device has not become a new thing because of the AirTag. If someone wanted to track YOU before AIRTAG became a thing, they already could by buying Expensive device made specifically for that and you wouldn't even know you are being tracked because you do not have any device that detect tracker. The only difference today is if a criminal dumb enough choose to use an Airtag, then there is a possibility the target will be notified because he has an iPhone.
How long have these people finding these owned these vehicles, and did they buy the vehicles used? I saw a case of this recently where it turned out someone had purchased a used car and it turned out the tag had been left there from a previous owner by a spouse tracking her husband. Also car dealerships using these to track cars that might end up being stolen from their dealership.
I can already see so many problems happening because of these "air tags". Why the general public would want to have something like this is baffling me.

Apple better be able to instantly identify the phone the tag is actually registered to, locate that phone, and get these criminals under law enforcement's thumb. It is possible to buy a detector that can detect the presence of a tag and locate them. When you find the tag you can snap it in half with a pair of pliers. It is impossible to find the owner of the tag if there are no ID markings on it. If you think you are being tagged and tracked invest in a detector for tags.
