Marilyn is actually a mezzo-soprano who also has such a rich & robust contralto that beats most pure contraltos, which makes the rarity of the latter that often forces opera companies to cast mezzos into contralto roles something that wouldn't be a compromise & instead even be nore of a blessing if she was the mezzo tasked to do the job.

Listen to her Musetta with de los Angeles ,Nedda ,or the aria from Figlia del Regimento.
She has alo sang Wozzeck ,Fanciulla..
If you don't have the GOP ,2record album with her rarities, you can find some of her soprano arias in YT.
After Simionato's retirement, the.... throne was empty! 60''s had many spintas & dram.sopranos with easy top.
She was intelligent enough to defend this repertory.
But not enough to have....no harm .
Big difference between the legendary then for her Prophete of RAI ,and the the other one of the 70's.
You can cheat ,singing in other tessituras ,but not without issues.
That's why she was good only in the belcanto singing ,with a lot of scales ,but she was never able to be good or even sufficient, as Carmen ,Dalila,Azucena ,or Amneris.
Observe Milanov's reaction in the Met's Gala ,when she was singing a totally....artificial.....Mon coeur s'ouvre a ta voix.
Baltsa did exactly the same thing ,but she was more intelligent ,had much more volume ,& she drove her placement in a way that offered her the opportunity to last more& better

@@dougt3652 Thanks. I just listened to Teresa's own rendition of the same aria and even though it was just as flawless, there was nothing in her low notes for me to write home about. But I think even if Marilyn did "force" anything, which I still have yet to hear (had only discovered her a couple weeks ago, though), it's unfortunate IMO that people in general tend to often falsely presume that "natural" as far as anything under the sun is concerned (e.g. no preservatives = dangerous!; non-GMO = not a + & technically hasn't existed in human foods for the past 10k years; no MSG = not a + & MSG is naturally occurring in many foods) will always be "superior" to anything that is synthetic or processed or, in the case of the performing arts, any special ability that is molded by years of practice & recalibration of technique in using the instrument that wouldn't have been able to perform that way if left naive or even trained with the barest minimum. I have never heard her sing as much as you have, however, but if this performance is representative of the best that she can do, then anything less is irrelevant to me because there is no one who is able to do anything with robotic precision until their batteries need to be recharged. 😝

@@Dr__Feelgood chacon a son gout. I find Horne’s use of chest voice to be vulgar and not at all ‘bel’ canto but more can belto. Her debut announced a singer that indulged in ‘show off my low notes’ antics. Adalgisa announces I’ve got chest notes. Her use of chest in Carmen showed a charmless person behind the music. But I repeat there were other parts of her artistry which were quite fine. I have ALL her recordings - both commercial and pirated. They get little play. In her lower register she sounds like MAN, and it has always come across as unseemly, freakish, and frankly a little FIGHTENING to me. No one could dispute her mastery of the material, her incredibly sharp, precise , splrndidly articulated fioratura, or her passion forthe art of singing, BUT -- and I know i shall get a lot of flack for daring to say this -- her VOICE lacked BEAUTY, and in the lower register it often sounded hyper-aggressive, and downeght UGLY to me.

Я думаю, она сознательно ориентировала себя на подобный репертуар и культивировала в себе эту манеру. Потому и Арзаче идёт ей больше, чем Адальджиза.
