Has anyone been to a Brookdale facility? There is a segment of old people that are just as bad if not WORSE than teenagers. Old people can be rude, ignorant, super racist, and glued to their tablets/tvs. My grandfather was put there after he had a stroke and I completely lost faith in the oldest generation.

I honestly wished schools were a place of learning instead of glorified daycares. I honestly didn't learn anything useful at school other than maths and perhaps physics.
i worked as a test scorer for a large company that had a contract to do that job. They used to get blamed for the score results, at least initially. But actually it's the states that control and determine the outcome of these tests. There exists a scoring system that is universal to all of these tests, however the state will relax the scoring criteria until they get the desired result that they want, it's worse than people realize.

As a teacher, Maher isn't completely off base. Public schools in the U.S. are basically graduating everyone who walks through the doors. Students don't do any work, face no consequences for their actions, and already understand they will never be held back no matter how little work they do. I routinely see high school kids that can't read, put together a basic paragraph, and cannot even do 4th grade math. The kids are getting dumber.

Is it possible that cutting funds for education and forced structuring your curriculums around bullshit tests a really huge factor?
It's almost as if raising a generation if useful idiots was planned.

Every older generation says these sorts of things about youth. I'm 63 and have to catch myself, when I'm in a bad mood, getting negative on youth. But I do stop myself. There are many things youth now won't tolerate and that's a good thing. These elderly males probably aren't getting any more action and it makes them cranky.

I'm 63 but I hate it when old men get together and just hate on the youth. I'm not up on the latest Ticktock trend but I can still empathize when younger people complain that they can't afford homes. I used to be a staunch supporter of Israel too, but times change and Israel is no better now than the terrorists they purport to hate.

My advice to the older generations is to have a little more respect and understanding on what economics we currently deal with. And surveillance. Education costs. Housing costs. Loan costs. Less opportunity for pensions. At least for those that are belligerent and critical.

I used to love bill maher until his segment about Israel. I haven’t watched him since.
Older people do often know more, but what they know is often wrong. Many old people "know" things that have been since proven incorrect. Knowing the right things is often more important than knowing more about the wrong things.

Thank you. I was born with a heart condition and went to a small elementary school with less than 100 kids. I was in the regular classes doing good and all of sudden in 3rd grade I get put into the special Ed for math. I got out of special Ed in HS. I passed with honors and have a college degree. No child left behind is the main reason education is so bad. In both Europe and Asian countries they put unlimited money and resources and their schools. The USA for Christ sakes calls Medicare and Social Security entitlements. Like that makes me mad because we put our own money in those programs.

I resent the whole “Colleges are just pushing students through” nonsense. Both of my Gen Z children were STEM majors and no one just skates through STEM degrees. You have to show a level of competency in order to graduate. There is no getting around that.

Yeah, well a lot of that older generation didn't go to college. Plumbers, electricians, mechanics, etc. can make good money. I come from a big family of eight kids with a grandparent in the house. My mother couldn't work because of all the kids. My father worked three jobs to support the family. Things haven't changed all that much.

Maher sounds like he is using one of TYTs scripts where he replaced "homeless people" with "youngsters."
He expressed it badly, but he didn't say that young people are as dumb as house plants - he said they are 'hothouse plants', as in they are often brought up in sheltered environments, protected from the wild, so they have little real world experience. In that, he's neither entirely wrong or right, since people are individuals. I will say that there was a time when I noticed that almost anyone 10-15 years younger than me seemed incapable of understanding irony and they took everything at face value, no matter how ridiculous the statement was. I think it's mainly due to changes in school policies whereby, instead of letting the kids be brutal to each other (which is how I and my friends treated each other, but in a friendly way), suddenly everyone was a winner who had to be respectful all the time. It sounds lovely, but left them unprepared for the real word where people might still be good, but not necessarily nice.
