Nice face zoom at word "Djent"
Dmitriy Chebotaryov hahaaa🤣I was laughing too...
I LMAO'd so much. That disgust in his face 😂😂😂😂

"Because djent" - Olly Steele 2018
It's pretty nice to hear a djent guy essentially go "it doesnt matter if it's simple, as long as it sounds cool"
bruh djent is literally a genre defined by single note chug breakdowns lol
@@RyanReeves-ic4rx tell me you've never listened to djent without saying it
Would love to see a collab between Olly and mark Holocomb someday
I feel lucky to have met both of them. Such humble guys
Yes please 🙏
LongDaLLas wait what happened?
LongDaLLas oh I saw that on the reddit like two minutes after you wrote this.
That would be amazing
6:06 guys... so good
I always find stuff to pull off too 2:03
paused the vid to find this comment. +1.
That's what she said
"That's something I do a lot." lmao Olly
and he doesn't even realize what he's done at the time lmao
Same haha
This is such a great video to explain how to write this kind of music. I realise now some of the things I’ve been doing subconsciously
"because djent" gets me every time...I've watched this a dozen times over the years and it's so wonderful
mark of periphery had same kinda idea which keep things fun :)
This isn't new stuff lol. This is what Jimi Hendrix did.... and I'm sure many many people before him
Some of my favorite riffs are Mark's. There's a distinct catchiness to it
''Chon' band San Diego plays clean Djent Riffs progressive
1 year later and Mark's keeping things fun in a whole another way
@@Ryan_Perrin Can you explain a bit further please bro
Yeah, I just do the thing and this godly riff appears, it's simple really
Damn
Great job explaining that in a way that's easy to understand, and for we guitarists watching to relate to the way we already view playing! Made perfect sense.
sir olly you are such a sweet and a great teacher....thank u so much for this tutorial.
I just found this dude and monuments and it has awakened my guitar playing that’s been put away for years bc it’s so cool. I love these videos.
This is precious! So many simple and effective ideas condensed in 9min. Amazing!
the editing at 4:33 was phenomenal
also great informative video from one of the masters of the art!
All they did was zoom in bruh
@@ansoncook2547 I think you should find a dictionary and look up the word joke.
@@ansoncook2547it was phenomenal bro
Great lesson! IMO odd note-groupings and the rhytmic manipulation stand out the most in this riff, keeps it fresh.
Please keep providing us mortals these lessons!
This was actually super fascinating. Interesting to hear how different people approach the writing process and trying to come up with interesting ideas.
I actually never thought to just play out the chords first and then go from there that really helped, thanks!
Sounds fresh each time i watch this video! Love the riff Olly!
This is a great lesson! I love this guy and want to check out his band now.
4:33 LOL
Best instructional video I've seen on this subject
This is super useful and I keep coming back to it
Love this dude. Good shit!! Thanks.
This was such an awesome video!
does anyone know if anything became of the "Instagram riff"? I think it's one of the dopest riffs ive every heard.
Came looking for the same bub lol
Probably either gonna be on moray Pringles next release, or Olly's elusive solo ep
He actually teaches it on his newest Masterclass on Riffs from JTC Guitar. Except instead of a 7 string he’s on a 6 string in Drop D
That’s really cool Olli!! 🤘🏻😎 Like the popping open strings!!😉👌🏼
I bought the same iron label 7 string about 6 years ago and just so happened to quit playing music by the time I got it. I am finally getting around to playing it and I am not mad that I got it! I kept it in a nice case and clean all this time. I love the guitar
"It sounds like guitar hero looks" OH SHIT That makes total fucking sense. The whole band seems like real down to earth dudes, I heard you were playing live in London last month on the 9th. I was at Toska's gig next door but you are now on my list to see.
I would love the tone patch for this
Good god, I learned so much from this! Thanks for this :D
Some really smart ideas here, thanks!
You really should have guitar classes cuz you explain things so well plus you seem so chill
-3hrs of my life and The tunung is: Db(1st) Ab Eb Db Ab Eb Ab(7th) Thumb up so everyone can practice.Next time WRITE A TUNUNG PLZ
All you have to do to figure someone's tuning out is look what fret and string they're playing, determine the note, and then count down to see what the open string or 12th fret is.
Whoa cool guitar man! I got one of those myself. I love it!
I saw them 4 weeks ago live in Mexico City and this guy is freaking amazing, he plays awesome and had some "kinda-dancing moves" that keeps you entertained while watching them. All of them are really great, Monuments is such an underrated band.
Great video, I must check out monuments
Thank you so much!!!
Wow great lesson
I love that guitar!
I love pulling off to open strings too mate 👍
He is such a good educator. Why is this the first video I've seen from him??
Dude, you are awesome!
4:10 - 4:36 "because djent". well played sir, well played...
Great job 👍🏽
Great video!
Amazing lesson, 10q 🤘🖤
Nice lesson , can see the sikth influence in your playing
I can listen to Olly and John's individual ideas and styles all day. I'm assuming this is in the typical Monuments open A# thingy whatever tuning? (Totally forgot the official name lmao)
Definitely way lower than a# I'd say it's closer to g or f# probably
@@tribbybueno no. it's a#.
G#
@@jamesbramlett392 can confirm G#. My guess is G#-C#-G#-B-C#-G#-B, I think they used that one occasionally in Monuments.
Great video. I need to check out your band, sounds like some ERRA, Omnific, Periphery type stuff, based on this video.
You dont know about Monuments yet eh?
Boy am I envious of you
This kind of music always confuses me, but you broke it down to something that is easy understood. I'm definitely gonna try something in my new songs
damn good craftsmanship!
He looks like Greg Howe's son.
duuuude thanks its been bothering me
Billy Nord Oh. My. God.
WTH you talkin about? i know Gregs son and he doesnt look anything like this guy!
This is either a very poor and stupid troll or you're not the brightest...
@@elevenAD ruclips.net/video/9Slv5Oq9a-I/видео.html
Amazing, dude
keep practicing hope i can play like this someday.
"just find something to pull off to, it's something I do a lot." I laughed a little to hard at this
Love it!!
We need this guy to be the permanent host of this channel.
awesome guys
This is actually a sick video.
Djent made Greg Howe young again.
holy cow.... this is exactly how I write some of my riffs!!!
i fucking love that tone style
wow crazy!! ^^ very good i use for my channel thx!
you're awesome mate
Awesome!
Love the video and the riff! Struggling to figure out the tuning. Not used to 8 string drop tuning. Can you please tell us what tuning you're using. Going to check your band out! Sounding dope.
That's a dope ass riff dude
2:04 "find something you can pull off to" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I like this guy!
My fav riff ever😍
Olly is incredible
how have i not heard of this guy wtf
An instrumental EP would be sickkk👍🙄
"Find something you can pull off to; pull-offs are something I do a lot." ;) love you
Awesome 💯👍👍💙
'' because , DJENT '' , I DIED hahahaha
Way to go Olly, love it
Monuments have pretty underrated guitarists and while I love the band, it doesn't show their true potential. At least I think so. Will see how Phronesis turns out. Super cool video!
Omg I finally get it finally understand prog-metal, your explanation is awesome
Anyone else realized that he started with an 8 string in his lap and the he got the 7 string?
was just about to say i stalk that exact 8 string so i know that's not the same one they have listed
Hardcore clickbait...
False
This video is 🔥🔥🔥
Awesome, brain opener
What a fcking beautiful guitar
I like the way this guy thinks. Cool video
As soon as he started casually playing that sick fucking riff like nothing.... **** eyes widen***
As a new player, this was frickin useful
"Just find something to pull off to.. it's something that i do a Lot" xD
Sick riff, tasty guitar. Thanks for the video!
You are good man
It sounds like how guitar hero looks 🤣
David Munn its funny because i know exactly what he means by that 😂😂😂
:jasonparadise enters the chat
That guitar is beautiful
The closed captions put your name as Ali Still and I feel like I cant undo this now
Olleee Steel Monuments :D godd job !
Sweet-ass video, always interesting to hear about the process behind "weird" riffs. Just seems impossible to write sometimes.
love the vid thanks. what tuning do you run in this vid?
Considering how much i've studied, and how much i don't really know what he is saying ... man i just wanna start to cry
CRazy riffage. 👍🎸
idk if I just saved this video or this video just saved me
"Djent"
Best Part 4:20
