one rein hold i was taught and which works very well for me (albeit a bit hard to get used to a bit fidgety to put in place) is doing a sort of mixup on the enlgish reins. left draw rein on outside of pinky, left gag inbetween pinky and fourth, right gag between middle and index, right draw between index and thumb. the right hand side reins go down the palm of your hand afterwards (towards the left when riding) , and the left reins go cross over and go between index and thumb. its quite wierd but it works amazing as it makes it alot easier to adjust you reins and maybe add more/less tension on one side to improve the position of the horse for a shot. it makes the reins look a little messy but it works wonders
