one thing that i think a lot of people missed are the flies. at the beginning of the episode it showed them just crawling around on peoples faces and the people couldn't care less. then like halfway through the episode a fly lands on that sheriffs face and he has a stroke or what ever that was. i think it's because he wanted to kill the fly but he couldn't. then at the end delores finally kills the fly that lands on her, showing us that they're beginning to evolve on their own.
Yeah I noticed that too, its like the one guy had a stroke because he wanted so bad to kill the fly but couldn't break free of the programming. The blond woman is the "oldest" robot and so can refer to more older programming version and so has evolved the most...hence the fly killing.
they've been programmed not to harm anything, as the Jeffrey Wright character says at some point, which include flies as well as humans. If they're killing flies, guess who's next...
There is nothing uncomfortable about that. He is well read and quite bright...nothing wrong with that. The group is great though. I love to watch all your reactions...micro expressions...interesting and amusingly entertaining.
Kwasi Ahima 1 : I dont think you know what I am saying. Its not his intelligence that is uncomfortable, it is the disparity between his line of thinking and the rest of the group. 2 : You have no right to tell anyone else what is uncomfortable to them.
SHE HURT A THING! SHE HURT A THING! SHE HURT A THING! Oh NO! Chris is broken! Get a programmer out here! We need to fix him before we watch the next episode! Lmao! Chris is the best. I really love watching the girls reactions, but Chris and the guys discussions sometimes make me laugh to the point I need to pee.
Something interesting you might enjoy: Dolores told Teddy about the Judas Cow, the one leading the herd (so the rest know where to go). In modern day, the Judas Cow is a cow used to lead the other cows to the killing floor in a slaughterhouse because the rest are too scared without a leader to lead them. Just before the slaughter, the Judas Cow is pulled aside while the rest are killed, so it will continue to lead other cows to slaughter because it is never afraid of the killing floor. Dolores is the Judas Cow ;).
16:00 best reaction ever... LOL For a second I thought no one would notice, then Chris came to save the day, in the best way possible... and everyone looking at him like: "WTF?!"
Did you guys know, that the original Westworld movie (from 1973), was the inspiration for Terminator? :) You should watch it. It is old, but highly recommendable.
Billig Mad Agreed. Yul Brynner killed it!! 👍🏽🔫 I believe there were quite a few movies and TV shows that "borrowed" concepts from the original Westworld movie. Stepford Wives and Screamers come to mind.
The Stepford Wives (the book) came out in september 1972. Chrichton wrote the script for Westworld in August the same year. So the month before. I don't think either borrowed from the other. Neither writer had access to the work of the other writer until both were finished.
The black dude is on point. You guys should look up Machine Learning. You will enjoy the show much more. For example, Hopkins speech about programming in randomness as the basis of evolution, is what ML researchers have been playing with to make AI smarter
That's not really how machine learning works. Randomness does not make machines smarter. Machine learning is about making future predictions based on past outcomes. Randomness does not really help.
I think that Chris is right about Plato's Allegory of the Cave. It was the basis upon which the story of The Matrix was based and that could be something of an underlying message behind this story.
The flies seem to be everywhere. Even in the lab, on Delores. Curious that. Don't the scientists see them? Which makes me think that the flies represent "bugs" in the program. When Delores kills one at the end, perhaps she's moving beyond the minor bugs in the program. Perhaps this takes place so far in the future that this game is on another planet designed for this. Which means they probably simulate other worlds, maybe eventually..... WesterosWorld! And Sean Bean would be there...heh
There are levels of suspending disbelief associated with videogames, no matter how good they look (even in VR). It's always enough so that we're still able to distinguish between virtual and real life. If we ever get to this point where you're really within the world and those robots really are that lifelike, there will absolutely be consequences not usually associated with current gen games (desensitization, trauma, etc) because our brains will stop being able to tell the difference.
Brilliant reference to Platon (;P) there, respect! Didn't see that at first. Excellent review. Finally some people who can appreciate the beauty and the terror of this philosophical mindtrip and actually understand it. Thank you for that.
Something I read that I thought was interesting: The reason the Sheriff host malfunctioned is because the reverie update made him want to swat the fly when it landed on his cheek. The reason he had this reaction is because he had most likely seen guests react this way when flies landed on them. However, because they are programmed to not harm living things, this created a paradox. Dolores overcomes this paradox when she swats the fly, perhaps because her AI has evolved past the point of any other host because she is the oldest.
I actually told my friends, "It's like Jurassic Park but with humans." Not realizing that Michael Chriton wrote and directed the original movie Westworld (1973) and he of course wrote Jurassic Park....so, I was not far off. Yes, just patting myself on the back. ;)
sure it is...thats not even a real mohawk so its not a valid question, Kanye had a haircut like that so that tells you something, can't compare that to a real punk mohawk... its just a fucked up fade..
+Just You mean because they look too smart to have fallen for a fairy tale of some dude in the clouds who will magically take all your problems away? I agree.
I like the answer the "main synth" (can I call them synths?) says about the repetitions of the days are no different from a routine. A routine that everyone has. I myself wake up everyone morning doing the exact same thing, go to the same buildings, see the same people.... what reason do we have to question reality.
I'm so glad you noticed the Soundgarden "Black Hole Sun" reference with the piano. I thought you guys would be too young to know that song, but you guys are on point! (Same with noticing "Paint It Black" by the Rolling Stones.)
Fuck yes dude. I have to give you props for calling out Black hole sun. I love it. Not done with the video, but you'll be my main man if you call out the next song...
It's so sad that this great series never got the reputation it deserved. I can't even really tell why it's not that successful. I mean, in my opinion it has everything that makes a good series. Outstanding actors and actresses, a great soundtrack by Ramin Djawadi from GoT, an extraordinary story that is not too predictable with some unexpected twists and turns and much more.
Because it's on a wrong platform. Just think if this series were in platform like Netflix or any kind of popular platform that would be definitely the opposite, and this is also what I observed in our region especially. No one care or even know about this tremendous as well as phenome Nome work !! It's really upsetting for witnessing that most of people don't care about science or the theories of our nature :(..
I was so happy when I saw this video appear. I really hope you guys keep reacting to this show. The premiere was great, and I imagine some crazy shit will happen later in the season. If the quality keeps up I think it is on track to become an amazing show.
Rana love the dress, cute AF! 13:19 OMG D= 14:01 lol Same Marketa Good reaction. This was a good first ep, very interesting concept for sure. Kinda reminds me of the movie AI or truman show at some point. I wasn't too sure if I was going to watch this show but I might do so now, if I don't, I'll still check out your reactions lol. Chris was right, she hurt a thing at the end. I think delores is aware tbh. TWD not far!
So glad you're reacting to this show! I watched it this morning and was blown away. I'm so excited to see where the show goes (and to hopefully see your reactions along the way too!)
Plato begins by asking Glaucon to imagine a cave where people have been imprisoned from childhood. These prisoners are chained so that their legs and necks are fixed, forcing them to gaze at the wall in front of them and not look around at the cave, each other, or themselves. Behind the prisoners is a fire, and between the fire and the prisoners is a raised walkway with a low wall, behind which people walk carrying objects or puppets "of men and other living things". The people walk behind the wall so their bodies do not cast shadows for the prisoners to see, but the objects they carry do ("just as puppet showmen have screens in front of them at which they work their puppets". The prisoners cannot see any of this behind them and are only able to see the shadows cast upon the cave wall in front of them. The sounds of the people talking echo off the shadowed wall, and the prisoners falsely believe these sounds come from the shadows. Socrates suggests that the shadows constitute reality for the prisoners because they have never seen anything else; they do not realize that what they see are shadows of objects in front of a fire, much less that these objects are inspired by real living things outside the cave
I'm so happy you guys are doing a reaction to this show. I thought it was so intelligent and had me guessing the entire episode. Luke Hemsworth, Chris and Liam Hemsworth's brother is doing an excellent job as head of security. What a welcome to American television!
At 16:30 liked how plaid shirt guy addresses how Hopkins "reveries" update tapped into or created a subconscious and began the process of the androids becoming self-aware.
Yo, navi SSSSOOO fucked up be yes low as hell 😂😂😂 what's up Suraj, and what's up normies, I love the premiere, this shit is gonna be dope, sick cast sick budget, extra hype, Mickey great idea about the zombie program, liked all your videos you been dropping, keep em coming y'all
(For Marketa) Jsem rád, že sledujete Westworld, zatím to vypadá dost dobře :) aspoň bude co sledovat, když reakce na GoT budou až za rok :D. Jinak super, že jsi zmínila robota :) skvěle nás reprezentuješ :)
Yaay!!! Normies are watching another Show that I'm watching as well. Great to spend the time between Game of Thrones Seasons following the Normies on YT. Though I'm a bit surprised that not one of them has seen the 1973 Westworld.
Cool, maybe you guys could do a reaction video to that as well? Or we can hear what you thought about it in the intro to another episode's reaction video?
This show is based on the movie that came out in 1973 called WestWorld. That movie is about an amusement like theme park that has robots where real people can go to for vacation. There is Westworld, MedievalWorld, and RomanWorld. Eventually the robots turn on the humans and it gets crazy. I'm excited for this show because now they are making it much darker and can elaborate throughout the episodes
The milk scene "glitch" is too perfect hahaha. They just need to bring Jimmi Simpson (William) and the milk guy going milk nuts together to drink milk and I'll laugh until I literally die. Due to the obvious connection...McPoyle! (Because Jimmi Simpson plays one of the milk loving McPoyle brothers on Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Ahhhhahahahhahahaha!)
Omg I totally legally watched 4 eps of these and came here to watch you guy's reactions BUT THEN realised I didn't watch the first ep but instead watched episode 3 first, then 2, then 4 smh (I thought they were being vague with the plot on purpose as an artsy chaptering choice, I'm so stupid) Nice spot on Black hole sun Suraj. And AHah Micky's reference to Fallout 4, it was exactly what I was thinking when I first watched it, they're like synths.. (I'd say regardless of having an artificial body, as long as you can analyse data, learn new things and evolve with the things you've learnt with emotion, you're human, or rather "real" - that's what I think)
Enjoyed the reaction. It's funny that you were saying that it was like Ex Machina and all these others films. When really they were all influenced by the original 1973 Westworld film written and directed by Micheal Crichton. Remember watching it in the 80's as a child with my mother. The concept was brilliant, cautionary and freaked me out!
Rudolf Menon game of thrones is more socially historically and politically realistic than most shows out there, the fantasy elements serve more as a backdrop and source of spice for the plot. It's high quality in every factor. I highly recommend you watch the first season at least, as it is slower than the others. But it feels a lot more like a more dramatic historical piece.
I am so happy you guys are reacting to this show! I watched this and thought wow this is gonna be a great show! I watch your GoT vids and so I am glad you are doing this show now also :) Also looking forward to your Walking Dead vids soon!
25:24 One reason for not destroying the decommissioned robots would be for future senarios. It sounds like they change up the world from time to time, and maybe they'll need a certain looking character that they can pull from the inactive robots (perhaps with a bit of reworking)
I don't think you guys fully grasped that it is all happening in the real world, it isn't like the Matrix or something where you are in a virtual reality. They are on Earth, but the company just found a location out in the middle of no-where, built a town, populated it with android humans and live-stock (horses, etc). You see that big facility up in the mountain top that overlooks the area where the company people operate from. What I think is good is that this first episode was deep and meaty. IMO that speaks to the entire series likely being that way. Being a bit lost, not understanding what is happening, within the right circumstances that is a good thing. It means the story is really deep and complicated and can't be dumbed down or watered down just because it is the series premier. It being complicated and complex (like GOT) will pay off down the line when we start to realize how the web is interwoven (like we did with GOT, ie Jon Snows real parents, Hodor's name origin, etc).
I was really pumped to see this come to HBO but after watching the first episode I'm completely disappointed. they did exactly what I feared they would do and that is to give away way too much of the behind the scenes and not focus on being in the West. I realize the concept makes it difficult for the producers and writers but I feel they completely missed the mark on what could have been one of their best original primetime series Concepts. I just wish they would have left some mystery until episode 2 or 3 with regards to the bodies in storage and the glitching and how they repaired etcetera etcetera etcetera
It's pretty amusing watching this series of reactions so much later, and while I wait for other uploads. 'Westworld' season 1 was a real botch for me: I felt it just kept raising the anticipation without ever delivering. I was rooting for The Man in Black well before he was "revealed."
It reminds me a bit of "The Island" where robots are cloned and farmed just for rich people to have backup organs and body parts in case something happened to them. Eventually one or two of the clones start to realize they are living in a programmed environnement and they try to get out.
Yeah, I guess. It's a bit like Dollhouse as well. The original movie from the 70s never had the robots figure out anything, they just went haywire. The Simpsons even parodied parts of that movie in one of their episodes.
Good catch in the very end when she killed the fly. I just thought wow it's creepy she actually felt the fly, but lying to her maker and killing it made it even creepier. This show is going to be a hell of a trip
Yes, I pretty much know where this story is going after the first episode. At lot of parallels to other philosophical stories. For some reason the Hopkin's character wants to either literally be "god" or wants to create an uncontrollable "frankenstein" to destroy something we are unaware of at the moment. Possibly another reality residing outside the current reality we see from watching this episode. They pretty much gave that away already especially with the previews of episodes to come. They give some much shit away in that preview? Anyway, It will be very interesting to see where the people that play in the simulations fit into all of this as well.
Don't know if you look at comments on old vids, but this just got recommended to me and I had to watch it. I think I might enjoy watching y'all with the rest of this series than even Game of Thrones! I just won't get to follow along "live" until next year with S03...
Shows like Westworld and Lost can’t be fully absorbed in a large group setting as with Game of Thrones IMO. The dialogue is far too critical, especially in WW.
+The Normies what brand are Suraj's socks?! Those are cool I want to get a pair And Rana seems uninterested in the show and the conversation hahaha...she's too cute in her bean bag
Michael Crichton was a genius. The 1973 movie was really good and the pilot for this new series was amazing. Btw, was Chris refering to Platon's allegory? Oh yeah and robot definetely comes from Isaac Asimov. If I was in Westworld, you better believe I'd be the Clint Eastwood of the world. I'd probably rob banks too.

Kyto thanks for the insight..........................................................
Great point!
Ya it was some kinda "bug" in the programming .... I'll go home now
Black guy is like uncomfortably more intelligent/observant than a lot of the rest of the group.
Why is that uncomfortable for you?
Drew Q)! Why uncomfortably?
It feels like he is trying to have a conversation and half the group isn't even on the same wavelength.
There is nothing uncomfortable about that. He is well read and quite bright...nothing wrong with that. The group is great though. I love to watch all your reactions...micro expressions...interesting and amusingly entertaining.

Ha ha... Nice job.
This is my game of thrones when theres no game of thrones
Blasphemy.
i like em both for different reasons
Fargo.
Fargooo.
FargogoGO!
I binged the 10 episodes in one day.
Josh Herbert me too.
the she hurt a thing! part was hilarious lol
Who else agrees that the dudes reaction at 16:02 was one of the best thing about this reaction video.
How about 11:28?
Or maybe 12:56

maddwitch Nope! The original West World came out in 1973, the Stepford Wives in 1975. That reminds me, the original Total Recall had WW themes also.
Guess I was thinking of the book.
The Stepford Wives (the book) came out in september 1972. Chrichton wrote the script for Westworld in August the same year. So the month before. I don't think either borrowed from the other. Neither writer had access to the work of the other writer until both were finished.

XD

why does it look like half of you guys are about to go to church and the rest are headed to a party lol, still a great reaction video keep it up 😆👍
They dont, they are all in casuals save one person second from the left. But who knows, he could be in casuals. Maybe he wears a tuxedo to work.
lmao just lookin at them i dont think they go to church..

Wow, it flew right over my head that she said would never hurt a living thing yet killed the fly.
Very interesting! Loving this show already.
"She hurt a thing!" That was hilarious! :)

So glad you're reacting to this show! I watched it this morning and was blown away. I'm so excited to see where the show goes (and to hopefully see your reactions along the way too!)
YES! Thank you for reacting to Westworld!!
Best part of the whole video was Nahid falling asleep 14:13!! Damn son, get some sleep :D
The next 20 sec are just pure gold, look at his face, he was struggling, couldn't stop laughing. I luv u guys, you are awesome :)
BROOO I WAS SOOO TIRED MAN LIKE DEAD!! WE BEEN SHOOTING ALL DAY I COULDNT DO IT!! IM SORRY!!

Great premier episode. This show has serious potential. Nothing beats the G.o.T pilot for me though.. I may be a bit biased
You most likely are. GoT is in my top 3 favourite shows of all time but the pilot alone wasn't all that great. And it's to be expected.
GOT is fantasy and this is Sci Fi i dont see any connection. I haven't watched GOT at all because of the genre. I am more into plausible sci fi.
Not even comparable. The Westworld pilot was pure art. Game of thrones pilot is average at best.
Great Job guys (y) .... keep up the good work, Great channel.... love u guys
I LOVE YOU GUYS, YOU'RE ALL SUCH A GREAT GROUP OF FRIENDS
I am so happy you guys are reacting to this show! I watched this and thought wow this is gonna be a great show! I watch your GoT vids and so I am glad you are doing this show now also :) Also looking forward to your Walking Dead vids soon!
loved the music on this, paint it black was awesome. It's not clever, it's fucking genius lol I love it
I'll be honest, my favorite part was you guys recognizing the music.
Great taste
25:24 One reason for not destroying the decommissioned robots would be for future senarios. It sounds like they change up the world from time to time, and maybe they'll need a certain looking character that they can pull from the inactive robots (perhaps with a bit of reworking)
Nahid trying to stay up watching LMFAOO
Just confirmed on imdb.com...15:18 is Luke Hemsworth, brother of Liam and Chris!!! Do it Luke! Do it! What a cool gig for him to snag, aye??!!
+The Normies and Chris' "She hurt a thing she hurt a thing she hurt a thing" was my exact reaction to the ending!
Hell yeah the Normies are doing West World.
There is some company somewhere, than makes bean bag chairs the size of couches.
Watching this right now and holly hell Chris got some muscles since then, it' s crazy !
I'm so excited for the return of The Walking Dead group reactions.
Y'all making a great job with the sound. I can hear Micky scratching his legs.
You guys should watch the original movie. It's a great 70s sci-fi classic. It does explore other time periods.
I look inside myself and see my heart is black. Rolling Stones.
16:01 , the exact moment his light bulb turned on. xD
I really Enjoyed This show looking forward to the rest of the season
It's pretty amusing watching this series of reactions so much later, and while I wait for other uploads. 'Westworld' season 1 was a real botch for me: I felt it just kept raising the anticipation without ever delivering. I was rooting for The Man in Black well before he was "revealed."
i love that he mentioned fallout 4 because thats all i thought about the entire episode
wow covid hit the nornies hard huh LOL yall looked so good back here LOL
Wdym alot of these group members where never consistent/left before covid, this nearly a decade ago?
It reminds me a bit of "The Island" where robots are cloned and farmed just for rich people to have backup organs and body parts in case something happened to them. Eventually one or two of the clones start to realize they are living in a programmed environnement and they try to get out.
They were not robots in "The Island", they were biological clones.
singhrais Yeah thats my bad, still doesnt change that it reminds me of it because of them figuring out the system and what not.
That little finger pin tho haha love it
Yes, I pretty much know where this story is going after the first episode. At lot of parallels to other philosophical stories.
For some reason the Hopkin's character wants to either
literally be "god" or wants to create an uncontrollable
"frankenstein" to destroy something we are unaware of at the moment. Possibly another reality residing outside the current reality we see from watching this episode. They pretty much gave that away already especially with the previews of episodes to come. They give some much shit away in that preview? Anyway, It will be very interesting to see where the people that play in the simulations fit into all of this as well.
Nahid nails it at 11:27
Yep . Very strangely
If this technology existed, why the hell would anybody wanna go to the wild west? It's shitty as fuck. Take me to Hogwarts, man. I wanna be a wizard.
Great reaction, guys!
Don't know if you look at comments on old vids, but this just got recommended to me and I had to watch it. I think I might enjoy watching y'all with the rest of this series than even Game of Thrones! I just won't get to follow along "live" until next year with S03...
they barely read any comments at all
I think if even one of you read up just a little bit about the premise and rules of the show. You all will enjoy watching it more :)
Shows like Westworld and Lost can’t be fully absorbed in a large group setting as with Game of Thrones IMO. The dialogue is far too critical, especially in WW.
The Westworld's watchin' Normie.
This show was so brilliant until it got so confusing that not even the writers knew what was going on anymore.
Can we make this a Game Of Thrones filler show lol This show is really interesting.
very interesting analysis platon-cris and markita quote!
Plato's allegory of the Cave. I.E. The Matrix.
+The Normies what brand are Suraj's socks?! Those are cool I want to get a pair
And Rana seems uninterested in the show and the conversation hahaha...she's too cute in her bean bag
did you know that the security guy is a hemsworth brother? luke hemsworth!
Hahaha! Navi! I would love to play poker with you. You give away alot with your facial expressions even though I think you try to mask it.
*Spoilers*
Seeing Abernathy’s scene with Ford makes so much more sense now knowing all the hosts are copies of Dolores
Yes I was
