    If you pull the pan and get the crank in the right position, you can inspect the cam bearings without pulling the cam. If you can see the bearing protruding from either side of the boss, it's walked out. My #2 cam bearing walked as well. Thanks for the info on how to change them without pulling the motor!

    If your cam bearing has a chunk out of it, that material is everywhere. I wouldn't suggest just replacing a bearing or two. How's that lifter and cam lobe look? Since it was recently built (a few miles), you might get away with some things you normally wouldn't such as any DOD issues (didn't catch which gen of LS).

    DOD delete in a C5 z06 , 54-56 at start up, once oil temp get up 200+ pressure has progressively dropped to 20 or less at idle and no more than 40 at any cruise or acceleration.

      That's still within spec of 10psi per 1000rpms. But I would check pickup tube oring and at the same time the oil pan is off I would do a relief valve delete in the oil pan if equipped.

    i have 15 psi on hot idle only ... what could be the reason?

    • @hill_customs6807
      @hill_customs6807  Год назад +1

      It's almost always just the o-ring on the pickup tube that goes into the oil pump.. unfortunately if the engine is inside the vehicle the oil pan has to come off and the entire front of the motor so you can get the timing cover off

      @@hill_customs6807 thanks. I replaced pressure valve inside oil pan and added one Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer. Now my hot idle is 26-30 psi. I didn't check that oring unfortunately (( but it's new and replaced 6 months ago

      @@hill_customs6807 I hooked up a manual guage on my 05 Yukon Denali. Cold start is at 40psi, when it's hot it idles a little above 10psi. When I accelerate it shoots back up to 40psi. My instrument cluster reads 20psi cold start, when it's hot it slowly drops down to zero and goes up to about 5 psi when I accelerate. The engine runs good, no knocking no tapping or shuddering. Should I be worried?

      @@madwestboy yes you need to have it looked at. Sounds like the oil pump pickup oring has failed on that.

    Sometimes the o ring on the oil pick up under the windage tray goes bad causing a lost of oil suction to the oil pump.

    If a cam bearing has come out why? Bad bore to be driven in they should only move if it locks to the cam and spins. Otherwise this is just a shi!!y setup all around.

    • @hill_customs6807
      @hill_customs6807  11 месяцев назад

      No one really knows. But usually its after a rebuild. And probably worn bores. And aftermarket bearings. Happens more on aluminum blocks i can say for sure.
