I never comment but, you deserve praise. I have always played the original versions for my children especially when they say"I'm hating" on their music. Leon Haywood's "I wanna do something freaky with you" original shut them up for good. Keep up the good work!
Funktuall, I'm so glad you point out that Angie B from Sequence is Angie Stone. I remember when I moved from western New York (Rochester) to South Carolina (drugged there, not my choice) and I heard Sequence, the female version of The Sugar Hill Gang. You, my friend, are a hip hop historian. Mad respect to you.
Thanks for giving a greater exposure to the great songs that people have sampled from. The more I get into hip-hop, the more I like to look up the tracks the samples came from on RUclips. Hip-hop has helped me to get into so much more music, and you're a great resource for that. It's nice to be able to hear the songs the samples are from, and get some great back story.
Sample #2 was also used as the main loop in Organized Rhyme's "Check the O.R." Organized Rhyme was a little known Canadian rap group featuring Tom Green.
Not sure if this has already been mentioned, but the Angie B sample is also sampled by Tom Green's 90s hip hop group Organized Rhyme in the track "Check the O.R" ....love it!!!
Brother, it´so much fun to watch you go off on these classic tunes. my whole life is influenced by 99% of what u play in this "strangley familiar" room...I recognize myself playin samples and their orignals 2 my friends and go crazy jus like u,man. u bring back a loooootta memories, man! One Love from germany.... YEAH,You got props ova heeeeere! Ronsta One
You know what really blows my mind is how someone can isolate just seconds of a song and make a great beat. Like with Meth's "Bring the Pain". It was literally 3 seconds out of that entire song and it was made into an all-time classic. Amazing
I really, really want you to finish the Paul's Boutique sample video series. It's killin' me, man. I know a lot of the sampled songs, but fuck it, it's just so much more fun watching and listening to you lay it all out. You really know your stuff, and I'm not kissing ass, I just really want you to keep going on the P.B.'s sample video series. Come on man, you know you wanna. Do it!
funny thing about that Bob James... my dad has that album and the whole time i never listened to it.. when i get home i will be taking some of his stuff
This is hot! I want my son to listen to all of your videos. He wants to get into the music industry and I keep telling him they are taking old music and making it relevant for today. Good job!
Crazy!!! Mechanical Man was truly meant for you my friend... You proved my point with no disapointment! I was gonna hold out on the new memory card, but I might just make a video in the morning before I head to work... Keep it up man...
That Ahmad Jamal song was crazy! I am one of those jazz purists, too. --Been buying up a lot of it on vinyl, along with funk, lately. I'll be looking for some more Ahmad when I go digging next weekend. I love that ATCQ sample, too. Just bought their first album a couple weeks ago, and have The Low End Theory, and Midnight Marauders too. Essential hip-hop! Great jazz samples all over their releases.
Great mix mate. Instant subcriber! All your missin is abit of Sly Johnson, unless youve done him already? You Know, "I Hate, I Walked Away" or "Is It Because I'm Back" you know from that cypress hill interlude.
@funktuall I found you 2 days ago and have been watching your vids in the hope of re-discovering some stuff I lost 20 years ago eg.Ashleys Roach clip, Seven minutes of Funk, Think about it by Lynn Collins and more !! I can't thank you enough for all your hard work, If I lived in the U.S I would pop over with at least a pound and a half of Kush for you !!! You ever come to the UK, you have free accommodation, food and a driver/spliff roller for you stay, including airport pick up and drop off !!
Yo my man you took me way back. You taught me a lot. I will use these samples the next time I am deejaying a gig. Thanks a lot. You are gifted at what you do. Keep up the good work and continue educating the folks about good, clean, real music because the new music dey are putting out is garbage. DJ Goliath. One
#5 is an interesting story. DJ Ski had actually originally put "Feelin' It" together for Camp Lo. However, Jay-Z heard it and pretty much jacked the beat by putting Ski on the spot. Since Ski recognized Jay was going places, he gave the beat up and the rest is history!
Man i love what your doing bra! You keeping it alive and I love spinning this classics! Please if you haven't already rain Dance by Jeff Lorber and Fusion
Another great video man! You need to present more Kool and the Gang samples and Gil Heron Scott (The Godfather of Rap)--in my opinion-- BIG UPS from Montreal, Canada
When I first heard Grandmixer DST 'Mean Machine' I loved it, later I found out that it was a remake of the song by The Last Poets, and that both versions are sung/rapped by Jala Nuriddin the leader of the Last Poets. Funny story how I found this out, I was hitchhiking in my hood in Detroit, and an older black truck driver picked me up, and he was listening to the Last Poets, when Mean Machine came on it blew me away, because I thought it was a Grandmixer DST original, lol, so cool, and I only needed a ride about 5-6 miles, weird coincidence that he was listening to that obscure jam that seemed like I was the only person I knew that even knew it... Lol..
6:53 to 7:20 Has that been sampled for something? It sounds REAL familiar... something about it reminded me of the melody in Just a Friend by Biz Markie but it's CLEARLY not that.
#5 JAMAL is one of the greatest true musicians, so under appreciated. That whole record, Jamal Plays Jamal, is filled with samples. But more than that, a great record in its own right.
Hahaha! K-Solo bitch! Dude, these videos are fucking crazy! Isn't that beat also the sample for Eric B and Rakim's Make 'Em Clap to This joint? I KNOW it is! Dope video yet again, on to the next!
First off these videos are great and you're a true hero. Second, it sounds like Bruno Mars was a little bit inspired by the Funk You Up song in Uptown Funk.
Really? That song is tight! This reminds more of like Partridge Family stuff. The horny intro...I think I imagined that it came from a gameshow like Match Game. That theme was pimpin'!
A Tribe Called Quest all use great samples itd be nice to do top 10 of just tribe cause theyre easily the most talented and influential commercially successful group
I never comment but, you deserve praise. I have always played the original versions for my children especially when they say"I'm hating" on their music. Leon Haywood's "I wanna do something freaky with you" original shut them up for good. Keep up the good work!

I don't know HOW many times I've heard the bells from "Take Me to the Mardi Gras" before I knew that it was from that song.
You're the man for that Freestyle Fellowship shoutout. Hope u bought the "This Is the Life" DVD.
Total Devastation sampled Billy Brooks too for "Many Clouds of Smoke"

This is way too dope

Thnaks a lot! I was waiting for somebody to say that! Hope people aren't sleeping on these guys.

This is hot! I want my son to listen to all of your videos. He wants to get into the music industry and I keep telling him they are taking old music and making it relevant for today. Good job!
that first classic you featured was also sampled by Tom Green's old rap duo Organized rhyme on Check the OR
I enjoyed the series of videos. your love for the music is infections and is 90% of the reason these turned out so well. Great Job!!
Crazy!!! Mechanical Man was truly meant for you my friend... You proved my point with no disapointment! I was gonna hold out on the new memory card, but I might just make a video in the morning before I head to work... Keep it up man...
