    I love the fact you can unzip the window and screen at the same time. But the window being attached at the bottom is a pain that I don’t think I could deal with. I’m also looking for a wedge style tent. After seeing Shaun’s go fast set up for a couple days I’m hooked.

    I have a rhino rack platform backbone and just keep on mind it’s rattling all the time even if you torque it 3 times and if you put the lower profile legs it’s almost impossible to attach the tent to the rack unless you move the tent rails to the side

    Nice Review … !! I‘ve got an Alu-Cab 3.1 since 2021. yeah ok, heavier but way more space inside. I‘m 6 feet tall and no problems with my feet while sleeping. Two adults in the 3.1 is possible but for me a bit of very close for a good sleep. For me alone or with kid, no Problem. The 3.1 also has better insulation and comes with a mesh under the matras. Thanks for the review … best greets from Switzerland 🇨🇭

    Just got a Hatchet rooftop tent- 180 lbs -fits snugly into rain gutters- no noise, leaking or instability- access from inside jeep- I am 6 ft- tons of room. 4” mattress, lights, usb, 4 windows, 2 min setup. Leave comforter and normal bedpilllows inside. Canopy and 2 100w solar panals availble with hookups preinstalled. 6’5” can easily stand up in the back. Marine grade canvas. Preinstalled rack connectors if desired, but will not take mich weight.

    Return it! I personally don’t get the whole rooftop tent thing. After spending a day behind the wheel last thing I wanna do is sleep on top of my rig. I prefer a traditional ground tent or if the weather is nice, just a bag and sleeping pad. Out of pity I gave this video and like to help pay for the return shipping.

    Hey Casey, another tent you should look at that would be comparable to the larger Ali-cab is the Quick Pitch RTT. I’ve had mine for about 18 months and it been awesome. Size it good, well made, all my bedding and the ladder - and our clothes stay inside the tent. Wired for power with a light (white and red) as well as 12v socket and usb.
    It’s solid and has an awesome front style hinge that runs the full width of the tent.
    These are also made in South Africa but we have Gear4Overland in Red Deer who is the distributor for Canada. Check them out! Heavy but awesome!

  • @vonrunner
    @vonrunner 4 месяца назад

    Great review. I was really hoping this was going to be the perfect RTT, but unfortunately it's just too small. I understand they were trying to keep weight down, but it's almost comically small. I love the build quality of their tents and If they had something between this and their Gen 3R model I think they'd sell a ton of them. Same or similar footprint of the 3R, but slim it down height wise and remove some of the "luxury features" (internal solar wiring, tiltable mattress, etc).

    You will definitely not feel tippy while in the Rubicon trail with this. I’m 6’1 so I slept at an angle 📐 to have more room for my feet. That seem to have worked just fine for me. I bought the longer ladder and the mud bag as well. Too bad it didn’t come with the ladder and the bag as standard.

    I ordered an aluminum shell tent from amazon with little extra toe room because it lifts up a foot at that small end, got extra thick mattress, stainless steel struts, extra wide, and roof racks, also has t track around the perimeter, I paid $900 usd plus $300 usd shipping to Vancouver Canada, its good so far. save the money get it form the manufacturer minus the company name save some money alibaba worked for me.

      Ya - I don't think its what I expect from Alu-cab. But.. if your shorter (im 6ft 2in) and need a light tent for the occasional night, and have a heft budget, I think there is a niche. The larger Gen-3r is excellent.

  • @FiveAngelsOutdoor
    @FiveAngelsOutdoor 9 месяцев назад

    Yeah, that is the problem with the clamshells, the bed is only as big as it's footprint. Even the bigger Alu-cab, the GEN 3R is still not big enough if my opinion. That is why I went with a hardshell tilt open tent that folds out. Much more space. Sure it is taller, but I think that this is ok. They are all so much $$$, so getting what works for you is always best.

    The target market for this tent is not wrangler owners. BTW.
    The ladder is shorter as it is targeted at people wanting a cheaper more accessible rtt that can be mounted to non 4x4 vehicles. Important to keep this in kind. They make other rtt's that are bigger heavier and made for super off-road use...
    Good review nonetheless

  • @johnanthony6141
    @johnanthony6141 9 месяцев назад

    This is just my opinion. On the Rubicon I think it’s best to have the least amount of weight as possible. Although the tent is only a hundred pounds it’s still weight. You will see what I mean when your off camber.
    Be sure to start early so you can get a good spot at Buck island. Rubicon springs is still 20 bucks to camp and you can reserve cool spots.
    Tools and extra axles is a good thing to bring. Haha satellite texting is also a good idea..

    you can buy a interior table that folds down from the roof and a hinged fold up back rest.. looks super cool.
    you have a good point with the door opening. they should also have anderson plugs affixed to the top for solar, pre-wired for their national luna lights and a flap for diesel heater on this version.

    Man I went to look at 23Zero's new lite tent and at 6' I'm running into the same issue. It's just not big enough for me, probably tighter than what you experienced. Plus I wouldn't mind relaxing in the tent reading or watching shows but I just felt claustrophobic in there. So on the one hand I'm glad I'm reasonably tall but on the other it's never been an issue until roof top tents LOL

The double zippers on this tent are a neat feature though . O and it comes with the ladder , xped mattress and mounting hardware .I think the Free Spirit is one inch thicker and 10 lbs heaver .
