EP108: I Built The Most Epic Duck Coop From Scrap!
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 7 фев 2025
- This was a fun weekend project. In an effort to work our ongoing war on slugs, provide a stable source of eggs and clear up our farm yard from scrap, we decided to build a Duck Coop. Ducks dont scratch and have flat feet which is better for our plants. Also they love eating slugs and other pests so that sounds like just what we need. If you wanna watch us turn trash into an EPIC Duck Coop come along with us we hope you enjoy this episode!

Lucky ducks ❤
🥰🥰
Clare your dancing reminds me of me in my shed 🤣 It rocks about like the caravan scene in Father Ted with Father Nolan and his youth group 🤣🤣🤣
Haha yes, that father ted is great episode 😁
“ That s why people watch us,… for the out of the box construction ideas.” I was just thinking how resourceful they are. No matter what, getting the job done. lol. Love it. Keep going! Where there is a will, there is always a way! ❤️
Recycling is our middle name 😉
🦆🐕🐈⬛ house👏
Nearly there 😊
Nice duck house! I think they'll feel safe and cozy in there 😊! Don't forget to brace the inside of the swinging door so predators can't push their way in. What a great idea to line the floor with the plastic!
Thanks for the tip! 🙂
Yay for ducks!! 🥰❤️ Rooney wins the Irish dance contest, silly puppy. 😂 The duck house turned out so great! 😊💚
Getting there 🤣
Turned out great and I admire your perseverance no matter the obastacle. I agree with another poster that said someone needs to sponser your tools. 😊
Thanks so much! 😊
Love how Clare kicked in the door like a bailiff carrying out an eviction during the famine lol!
Love it!🤣
Nice! 😊
Well done lads! You'll have the best housed ducks in Ireland
"An Teach Lachan" definitely the best 🤣
❤🎉 love the jig! Great work on the duck house!
Thank you, sure what better to do when you have a stage 😊
What a beautiful duck residence!! Lucky Duckies. The builders rock too!!!
Thankyou 😊
Loved this today, I hope you will have chickens as well. If you do a mobile one you call it “meals on wheels”😊
This made us chuckle, thanks for the comment 😂
Clare were you perfecting the Duck Dance ,heres to the happy field full of productivity and recyclability.Crispy duck sounds good no more chinese takeaway.🦆🦆
Haha yes the happy duck dance! Hoping the ducks will be egg machines so probably not Chinese dinner although the fox might have other ideas 🤣
🦆🦆👍 ducks will enjoy new home. 😊😊
Fingers crossed 😊
Good job on the recycled duck house , i love it when she smiles you know she's happy 😊 🎉 I'm back from my long 6 hour trip to Anchorage Alaska, catching up to see what i missed. Gosh why does Alaska have to ɓe so big hah . 6 hours .. gosh 😂😊
Oh wow... Less than 6 hours to traverse Ireland!!
@WestCorkWander yeah its pretty stupid, but we have no other choice, only Alaska Airlines. They stop in Petersburg, Wrangle, sitka, and Juneau before reaching Anchorage... but 3 more trips up north to go, and i feel like I'm trying to talk myself out of it 😆 🤣 😂
Well done looks great.😊❤
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice build but I think they will need more ventilation, as in cross ventilation. A vent on either side under the eaves with mesh over it. Love how you guys re-use and recycle materials!
Thanks for the tips! Each of the eaves is completely open actually with just the metal roof placed a couple of inches back. But yes we may need to improve on this 😊
I presume your duck eggs will be very ‘paletable’
I now know I must have an electric nailer, and of course a nibler.
I’ve decided the key to your strong growth as a channel is character.
Cracked me up when the irish dancing came on as the dog hopped up on the door like Clair did on the floor. 👏
Now you can get an avian herd number and have the Disco on commercial tax 💰
Was commercial tax as soon as I could after import! U know what a 4.4l is to tax!!! I woulda paid it, but what not commercialize it!
Of our peers our channel is the poorest growth and performance. Were happy with that. We've only one foot into RUclips, you don't want to fully rely on it like others do.
Rooney thinks she is human 🤣🤣🤣
Absolutely perfect well done guys x
Thankyou ! 😊
Hermoso , el castillo de los patos !!
Why thankyou 😊
Impressive duck house, great job Rob and Clare.
Thankyou, hopefully the creatures will agree 👍
That is a fantastic duck house.
Amazing what you can knock together with a few scraps😊
@@WestCorkWander absolutely, totally worth the effort. You guys made the most of what you have. Loved watching the build.
Great build lads, looks solid. Prob more comfortable than our current accommodation. Fantastic use of left over building materials too. Especially like the spray foam waterfall feature on the inside there.
Can't remember who it was off the top of my head, but they would let their ducks roam in their poly tunnel over winter providing a bit of extra warmth and that all important slug protection.
Where are you sourcing your ducks?
Re: Aerial predators, we haven't had any issues our way, and there are a fair number of birds of prey in the area. Read a few anecdotal accounts of US based homesteaders noticing any problem they had with aerial predators disappearing as soon as there were any other larger animals being kept next to the birds - sheep, pigs, cattle etc.
Yes, these ducks will be employees with two jobs, one to keep down the slugs and two to supply us with eggs. We had Runners and Khaki Campbell's when I was a child, they were great as they are light footed around plants. So I guess we'll look for those. I did enquire at O Leary Poultry, Macroom and they have both, so might go there.
Yes we are a bit concerned about predators, we have plenty of foxes, hoping our dog might help with those although she's far from being a guardian dog🙄
Wow the duck house is amazing! They’ll be spoilt ducks lol 😊
Yes, they might become a bit precious 😬
Looks great Rob!
Thankyou 😊
I had that problem with my Ryobi One tools and the smaller batteries being used in the more powerful tools in the collection.
I found that circular saws etc kind of needed the 5ah batteries to run properly if at all.
Great job on the duck house!
Not sure on how possible, but if I was going to be moving an electric fence regularly with the same overall area being divided each time, I'd have some permanent perimeter posts with eyelets to hook the wire onto spaced out so I could unhook and move the wire to create a new smaller grid square of pasture in the larger square and rotate accordingly?I
Cattle farmers do it, but obviously you'd be on a MUCH smaller scale lol!
It would save pulling and hammering stakes every time you rotate maybe?
Yes, what a great idea. I think we will definitely do this to make the moving of the fence much easier, thanks for that Phelim 😊
All it needs now is some rain water harvesting for the ducks drinking and bathing needs, possibly on automated systems?😊😊😊
Yes we were considering gutting to run straight into a bath for them, but maybe this should not be so close to their house, we'll see.😊
That looks stunning! Can’t wait to see it full of ducks 😍😍
Us too! 😄
SO CLOSE TO 10K SUBSCRIBERS!! CMON GUYS-SUBSCRIBE IF YOU HAVEN’T AND HELP THESE GREAT FOLKS OUT!
Slowly but surely, thanks Kelly ❤️
I was thinking the same thing. Almost there. 😊
Goose are great burglar alarms!
I believe so, I'm a bit nervous of them, but I guess if you have from a youngster they would get to know you 😊
You asked why your starter was not growing right. This may be the cause. a sunny window sill can be a great pace to keep your starter, however you will want to cover the jar or wrap it in a sock to ensure your sourdough starter is not exposed to direct sunlight. A happy starter prefers a warm, dark place.
Thankyou for the tip 😊
Great build for the fowl or for whatever
Thank you hopefully ducks 😊
Beautiful duck house, you guy did an amazing job... ❤❤❤
Thank you so much 😀
Shudda built a Dáil type bike shed.
Hehe
Looks great
Gosh yes, we should have tendered 😜
Happy ducks.
Hopefully they think so 🤞
I’m not watching for the out of the box construction ideas……. I’m watching for Clare’s dance moves😂
Ahh your on right channel so 🤣
Lucky ducks!
Hopefully they think so 🤞
What a team you are. A great distraction from the house build.
It was a breath of fresh air 🤣
Nice duck house. That's a great way to recycle
We agree! 😁
Looks grand so far
Why thankyou 🙂
I don't generally laugh at others' misfortunes but your tool situation had me rolling. I've experienced the same and had to find "out of the box" solutions too.😂
Pain in the arse yes, but look those tools have been put through their paces, time to renew I think 😊
hi there Wcw.
i think the duck house looks awesome i just had some random question.
i just wonder if they get enough ventilation becasue they are going to poop and all that in the house?
another thing i was wondering about, can you put pvc pipe underneath the house (between the board that the plywood lays on)?
becasue if you can then you could place a metal pipe in that pvc pipe and then you can hook up wheels on that metal pipe and then you can use the excavator to move the house around.
another thing, just remember to not over engineer the duck house, they are build to be outside so they do not need the comfort a human needs
just some random question i had, have a great day!
Great comment. Ventilation might be an issue, a new vent hole maybe needed, you are right.
Yes we were thinking about putting it on sled like pieces, wood or something solid, so that it could be dragged about.
Yes easy to get carried away with them needing human comforts 🤣
Duck Mansion.
😆 Geese are great protectors, but they probably need a separate wing (lol) for living quarters.
Yes we wondered about this. A goose/geese or a guardian dog, our dog would not make a good guardian 🤣
@@WestCorkWander if it were larger, possibly.
@WestCorkWander Rooney may not be the best x x x x love that pooch x
Totally love the duck house :)
Thankyou ! 😊
Great job the duck house done out of bits and pieces. What about casters/wheels or a wheelbarrow type of design to move the house around the garden.
Hoping to put sled like wood pieces on the bottom so it could be pulled by the tractor mower 🙂
@@WestCorkWander That should work a treat,
Name that house, ( competition time)
The duck Inn
My help the channel 👍
@@TheJaysfluid Teach Lachan
Great little duck house…how many ducks do you want to get? The local foxes will be licking their chops. How many other predators do you have to protect them from, weasels, fishers any of those?
Foxes yes, although they seem to keep their distance with the dog. The other big contender here in Ireland is mink 😬
Hey Guys, Duck Palace looks great! Would highly recommend the Deep Litter method ( imagine Cliare will love to research this) I use it for my Chicken Coop with Hemp bedding and have only neede to change out the bedding twice in 3 years. Do acknowledge Ducks are a bit messier but as long as you get your airflow correct the bedding and droppings will actually compost in situ. Can't wait to see the Duckies
Thank you so much for the comment, yes I will definitely research the deep litter method. We actually have vented the eaves of the house also, but may need more like you mentioned 😊
Thumbs up…job well done.
Many thanks! 👍
Now are ya worried at all about coming home to find a crispy duck waiting for you on the solar
panels? No need for take out duck? 🦆 🦆🦆
No joking. It looks amazing. I really like the black with the roof color - take care ✌️🧡🤎💛🍁🍂😢
Haha love it! At the moment I would be more worried about them taking off like the movie "Up" 🤣
Definitely need a squad of attack geese to protect the 🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆 I can't believe it was all built from scraps, it looks amazing.
Yes, guardian protection is next, not sure our dog is up to the job 🙄
Duck coop would be envied by many homeless people these days. Those are some lucky ducks🪿🪿🪿Another good job repurposing some leftovers.
Yeah, some unfortunate situations for our citizens
No tool is allowed to live beyond the finish of the house. Then you get to start life with all new tools for maintenance.😊
Absolutely! 😁
Chickens as well ? can't you build a moveable run on wheels ?
Not sure about chickens, but ducks will work to clear the slugs we hope. Yes we may put it on a sled to be pulled about.
Oh you poor man, why hasn't some company sponsored your hand tools? HINT HINT
Would be nice 🙂
Agree!!!
whats the quack de walt should sponsor you
We live and hope🤣
Jaysus Rob! You're lucky you didn't give yourself a change of religion or even a 'transition' cutting that black plastic wall panel with the hand saw!
The angle of the cutting - Your 'safety crocs' wouldn't have saved the family jewels if it had've gone wrong with a dodgy downward cut lol!
That was nerve wracking to watch lol!
We are in stitches after reading this, love your comments 😂
If I want a black plastic door I know where to come , do you deliver and install in Ukraine ?
This could be possible 😄
Don't forget. ..put a door stop inside your big door so it does push in ......again😊
Yes, that is a good idea 🙂
Some of my best builds are out of junk!!!! Rabbit hutch out of a big door cut in half ..😊
It's a truely great feeling to turn something from nothing into something useful, well done 👍
