EDIT: I didn’t know this comment would blow up with wholesomeness and also toxicity at the same time. I grew up poor in La Porte, TX it’s where I was born. And it wasn’t uncommon every weekend for multiple families to make a dish of their own and share with several families on the block. So every family would make a different dish or a similar that’s why to me this seems big for multiple families who also grew up poor. And in my early adult life living in Memphis, TN those were also super common and made me happy to see communities coming together.
Where I live now in North Carolina not so much due to COVID and other factors, but I hope to see them returning in the future!

Y'all come visit us sometime we promise you won't leave hungry, I'm from Texas and we got the East and West meeting so we got all the cuisine from the south plus Mexican, food the best in the country, pro-tip when you're visiting the South, you got to look for those little holes in the wall with people lined up out the door or fully packed inside cuz if it looks like somebody's grandma is running the kitchen or working the counter you know it's fixing to be good. @@emaildude99 It's not super abnormal for this type of cooking. As a person from Louisiana, you put this much seasoning because of how much food you end up putting into it. Also you don't eat this like a stew/soup, once it gets to your plate, all the extra liquid is gone, but this much seasoning really allows the flavors to soak all the way through the food, instead of just being on the outside
I’m going to go out on a limb and say there is more than 5 bucks worth of ingredients in this concoction.
Pretty sure with 5 bucks you won't even get 1/4 of the spices he used, let alone combined with the "real" ingredients like the shrimps or potatoes he uses.
