- Discover the Siekopai myth of the air goblins, spirits who fly and control the winds, as they clash with the human world.
--
Deep in the Amazon rainforest in the river Nea’ocoyá lived a school of particularly big and tasty fish. When the rains came and the water rose the fish appeared, and swam away as the waters fell. Villagers along the river followed them to a lagoon and set up camp. But their young shaman soon sensed they might not be completely alone. Nathan D. Horowitz details the Siekopai myth of the air goblins.

What's the point of having a shaman and not listening to them? That's like having an accountant and never taking their advice
It is greed and selfishness. Whenever you see something to good to be true, even when someone said it might be dangerous, you still tempt to get it. Example that one day you came across such mountains of money and gold. Even when someone said it might be a trap, someone who is foolish enough still want to get all the money and gold to be one of the richest man in the world. And then as you know, it happens.
You never guarantee which one is good or bad, and it is universal that everything is neither purely good or bad. Whatever it was, it is up to your choice and decision.

People very rarely listen to the wise.
Or having scientists and never listening to science
What's the point of judging real people's actions by basing it on fairy tale people's actions?
"When can we fish?" the villagers asked.
The young shaman, "I will answer when I return".
I understood that reference!
The young shaman then visits satans grandma
....And I can actually hear Mr. Adrian Dannatt say it... 😂
Thanks to TedEd for another entertaining story.👍

Thank you guys so much for bringing native south-american myths! most of our stories have been lost, for most of the ancient tribes were lost too. There are so little knowledge these days. It's always wonderful to see recognition!
Replying to leave a second thank you! I am Brazilian and this ethnic group is Ecuadorian, as far as I could search, but both countries share the Amazon, and watching our indigenous culture/folklore being told at Ted Ed is heart warming... especially because despite living in the same continent we dont get to know a lot about Amazonian ethnic groups (as //babyblue// said). Thank you once again!
I also really enjoyed too, but the story has a few problems. Specifically the Pineapples. PINEAPPLES are not natural to the Amazon
@@danilogondim9300 I’m not a botanist but apparently it depends on the species of pineapple you are talking about. I found this publication below, but I didn’t search that much (the information is actually in the introduction) and it is quite old. Still impressed they are from south america though!

Oof
Jack Richardson I thought that was great big story
Why did the goblin chief tell him how to kill goblins? 😳
I imagine he had been unsuccessfully warning them not to attack the people, just as the shaman failed to stop the people from eating the fish.
I think it was because there were several bad goblins who, as Tyler Peterson said, had been attacking people and the Chief wanted to get rid of them, as inferred in the end when the goblin's tree is burnt and only those air goblins who were honest and non-carnivores were able to escape.
Huh
@@ayeshasiddiquanasr2073 makes sense if you think that eating human eyes causes the goblins to become heavy and not be able to fly away
Maybe to be fair?
I love how both humans and the supernatural creatures experience Karma because usually it is only one side. It shows flaws on both sides.
Usually mythologies say the spirits are *_above_* Karma, and only the imperfect humans receive consequences. Even though the spirits are almost always equally imperfect...

Mohammad Babakoohi and Yijia Cao. Check them out on Instagram. You're right.
You are one the animators, aren't you? 😀
Yeah, it's gorgeous! Legend aside, wouldn't be cool to have a physics-based roller game based on tribal art? I would definitely try it out or create it.
Just increase your Patreons amount for them.
If you read (listen) between the lines , you can get some incites into the tribe's life. In the beginning it seems that the hunter gather society was straining fishing spots with their heavy use of Barbasco. They kept migrating as the fish populations declined constantly moving to better spots until they were in the territory of another tribe. It would appear that the whole tribe poisoned its self by Barbascoing the smaller and slow moving body of water and they fell into a slumber becoming vulnerable to both the other tribe and predators. The shaman ends up using the fauna knowledge learned from the other tribe to destroy them. He used pepper smoke and fire to force them to leave or burn them to death.
you can also assume the dog that scared the other creatures away may of been thunder
That's some nice mythological revenge story and is my first ever encountering something like this :) Thanks TED-Ed
