The SNES version is the best of the bunch. The Genny version in the US was a cut and dry port of the original with enhanced graphics, whereas the SNES version added 8 new levels and expanded the ones that were already there. Not to mention the ending was very satisfying, the battle against Jaffar was actually a duel, can't say the same about the other versions.
I played the SNES version when I was in primary school, and the final battle with Jaffar is one of those memory burns. Such an epic battle. This video has the easy spam-your-way out option, but I much prefer the endless sword dual opportunities.
SNES version was Japanese crap. Combination of Prince and Golden Axe. Simplicity of original was intentional, whites do not like over the top expression of yellows.
@@debozebuurman thanks, After I posted that reply I had a feeling I was exaggerating but I didn't realise by how much.. Oops. I have recently been playing the dos mod - repetition of time and think it's better than snes POP, recommend highly
I consider a guard on, I think it was level 8, to be another boss. He looks like any other guard, but behaves differently in that he has infinite patience. If you stand still, he will never advance on you, so a different strategy is needed.
I agree, I was the only person in my entire family for the longest time that could beat that guard too. Our family had a little split game strategy at one point where one person would fight fatty, another fight level 8 guard, and and another Jaffar, because as little kids we each had our strengths in our styles.
The timing used consistently against the SNES bosses in the video also works on PC. Attacking right after blocking but *just* too late for it to become a counterattack is never blocked by anybody, whereas a counterattack can be (and both the fat guard and Jaffar punish you for trying that one).
Makes you realise how much effort the SNES devs really put in. The music, the combat, the extra levels... Feels like there's a whole generation of Metroidvania converts who would love this if they discovered it.
PoP Genesis is different in which the sound of winning the fight is the sound of dead prince in DOS PoP DOS is different in which the dungeon's wall color varies in 1.4 PoP SNES is different in which there are 20 levels and 9 bosses while others have 12 levels and 5 bosses only
I remember as a kid posting on Prodigy in Prince of Persia threads as "the SNES kid." Most people were talking about the PC version but then somebody would get stuck in the SNES game and it was just me to say anything. The PC folks would end up just being dumbfounded. Like, what the hell is this amazon? Politician? Knights? six-armed jumping thing dropping giant skulls on you? Jaffar is shoots magic that makes you explode?!!
4:22 who exactly was this "fatty" suppose to be? Another enemy in the tower against the prince or just a random guard who happened to be lurking about?
In the SNES Version seems like it doesn't known strikes the enemies I mean when the Prince use his sword trying attack every enemy strikes back against him The only cheat is using bottom R and Y bottom many times or A and R bottom
To be fair, the SNES version came out 2 years after the DOS port and the Genesis port was a further 2 years later. Also the DOS port is mostly a straight up conversion of the Apple ][ original.
People say the SNES version is really good but it’s actually bad. The animation is the best though. The character moves without shifting position as much as the other versions during animation transitions. But the game is too long and boring, being an additional hour of padding. The boss rush at the end is annoying and pointless. The constant music isn’t appealing. The graphics are not as good as on Genesis. The character is smaller. It’s actually very annoying if you try to actually play it. It’s the worst version.

But original version for PC was released in 1989 and SNES version was released in 1992, which was big difference in that time.
When people spoke about "epic battles" in 1992, it was about Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat, but absolutely NOT "Prince of Persia", lol.

Great video! I just started to play the Snes version after 14 years!
The snes version is really good enjoy it.

Good one
Pretty lame Milhouse.
Come on Ubisoft, make Prince of Persia great again.
By selling the IP to a good developer/publisher, YES!
I want a classic edition release for PC and modern consoles that includes every port of the original game.
Technically, Prince of Persia is the origin of Assassin's Creed.
Thanks for a trip down memory lane. back then I think I broke 2 snes controllers because of the final boss. man... those days.

Maybe one of the best warriors of Jaffar?
First fat shame the enemy and then kill him lol
On the SNES version he was labelled as the "politician." I don't think that originated in the PC version though.
