That’s the whole “joke” with the raini and beyonce. It’s so unlikely that it would happen which makes the potential to create scenarios limitless cuz it doesn’t have to be based in reality. It’s the same concept behind cartoons/absurdist humor

    • @LP-ct9nk

Did I say it excused anything... you asked why people “pitted” beyonce and raini together and I answered your question... You obviously haven’t been on the internet for very long, because “jokes” going on for forever is the whole point of memes. 80% of memes are the same templates/inside jokes applied to new situations that come up, and it’s especially applicable on stan twitter which is where the majority of these celeb memes originate. Stan Twitter is not based in reality (otherwise no one would stan anyone the way they do) hence why they are always doing the most with memes and concepts. Putting “xyz celeb vs. beyonce” is a common template for stan twitter and raini is not unique in that regard. Go touch some grass cuz you’re getting hostile with the wronggg people 💀

I like how you mentioned the fact that people shouldn't make fun of/attack a person's appearance despite the character they play. Because at the end of the day, the body belongs to the person behind the character. And even if a person is mean, it's distasteful to make fun of someone's weight or physical characteristics in general since it shows that you'll only tolerate "unconventionally attractive" people if they prove their worth. This happens so often to celebrities that don't deserve it like Raini and Ed Sheeran. To my knowledge, both are pretty unproblematic but are only hated on because of their appearance despite being extremely talented people.

Also, if someone hasn't said they're ok with it, I think its better to not go too far. It's very possible someone as big as him wouldn't want to comment it against it since people are likely to take it further. The thing that really annoys me about situations like this is when people speak out about being harassed, there's always that faction of cave-dwellers that go "Well what do you expect? It's the internet. People are gonna be assholes to you on there, that's just how it is and you should accept it. Plus you're a public figure. This is something you should've been prepared for."
To a certain extent, yes, there is a level of mental preparation you need to have if you're gonna be a public figure, especially on the internet...
but that doesn't make rampant harassment acceptable.
And the thing is, these things are never said for the sake of preparing people that want to be public figures, it's said in retaliation to people speaking up about harassment, which just exposes these people's intentions for what they truly are.
Just because something is the status quo doesn't mean it's something we have to accept, and it doesn't mean that we don't have the capacity to change or at least de-normalize it.

Not Austin and Ally but someone on Tumblr pointed out that Meg March from Little Women was described as "pretty and plump", and Greta Gerwig (a feminist director) did the same ass route and casted a skinny girl (I love you Emma) from the UK instead of a girl who was thick or at least Hollywood fat to play Meg, like Beanie Feldstein who was in a past joint of her's where she played the fat best friend who was insecure and feels bad she isn't skinny like the lead character.
I think that is why that Christian movie with Chrissy Metz did so good, for once we have a role where a fat person plays a woman whose weight is not relevant to the plot! She playing a typical skinny role! Gimme some thick or HF superheroines, fashionistas, bad bitches, rom com heroines, final girls, witches, divas, bombshells without bringing up "heh she ain't skinny, so unusual". I love Beanie as Monica Lewinsky and she would give me Joan Holloway energy, but people bitching she wasn't as pretty or shapely as the real life woman at the time. Beanie understood the assignment.

When you brought up how Raini was being bullied, I’m thinking about how Wil Wheaton who played Wesley Crusher, the most annoying character on Star Trek: the next generation got a lot of hate after the show went off the air just because his character was the victim of bad writing. People even used to go up to him and shout “Shut up Wesley!” in public. While he did come from an abusive household, it’s a serious problem in general when people can’t tell the difference between the character from the actor, they need to relax.
EDIT: I know this information because I have watched HBO Max’s documentary show biz kids which has former child stars talk about the downfalls of being a child actor and how it has impacted future child stars like Britney Spears, Amanda bynes, and etc.

Tbh meme culture has roots in trolling, and the number one rule in responding to trolling is that you cannot show that it’s negatively affecting you, or else the trolls will sense that and double down harder. The same has happened with Millie Bobby brown black white, and Shawn mendes which is why you see those jokes take a life of their own.
Honestly if Raini had just ignored it, or even hopped on the trend and had made her own meme of it praising or showing that she enjoyed it it would’ve died out. Look how fast that “rise and shine” thing ended when kylie tried to capitalize on it. Ironically meme creators/meme enjoyers don’t like it when those types of memes get “approval” from the people that inspired it directly. It sucks, and people/internet should be nicer but until that happens (which it’ll never) celebs should avoid Barbra Streisanding themselves with memes

People like to pretend that harassment is somehow "motivating" the person to lose weight, but first of all they didn't ask for your help and second, bullying usually doesn't motivate people. People can be so cruel. Regarding how you said poc and bigger celebs are treated more horribly and have less chance of being defended than their white or skinny counterparts - so true! It might not be the whole fandom but I got tired of defending actual canon characters who are just there existing as who they are and hearing so much anger over Sam/Falcon getting the shield instead of Bucky 🤦‍♀️ the double standards come into play when the actors being harassed for their characters were never defended by anyone else on the cast in their movie or beyond yet one silly tweet calling Chris Pratt the least favorite Chris and all the main Avengers came out to defend him like there were actual hate campaigns. And ofc it doesn’t help that the fans (the ones I’ve come across) conveniently hold certain standards for some characters while others get a pass for the same actions - starlord ruining their chance at stopping Thanos was eventually determined as him blinded by grief but Tony Stark turning on Bucky after finding out he killed his parents wasn’t sympathized with that much at all, Bucky was brainwashed and has always been a soft boy never mind the murders he committed but screw Wanda she’s just conniving and dangerous, etc.. again, this was just my experience with that fandom so I had to leave.
