Thanks Kev. I'm putting the ceiling up next so hopefully it might be a little more interesting than throwing a floor down... Merry Christmas to you and yours! 🍻
Lovely job. I've been too scared to put my lino down til the van's near competition. Looking at how much I've beat up my plywood floor It's was the sensible choice for a clumsy idiot like me.
Cheers Tine! 🙂🍻 It's certainly crossed my mind about possibly damaging the lino. I've covered the floor with cardboard to try and protect it whilst we're working in the van. Merry Christmas mate!
Regarding the plastic panels covering the rear light clusters - I've covered mine in the same auto carpet and screwed them back in, and they came out quite nice - they fit right in. Can't claim credit for that idea - I've seen it on the Camper Vibe channel :-) Regarding the plywood for the floor, I'm not sure why so many self builders go to extra effort to avoid at all costs flexing or squeaks in the floor. My house floor upstairs flexes a bit and squeaks plenty - and it's not the end of the world. I've used 9 mm plywood in the van, and frankly there is no detectable flex - probably because of the extra support from the Kingspan boards. There are two places where it has the faintest, barely detectable squeak. Honestly, sometimes people seem to worry about not very much. On the other hand, not many self builders seem to worry about heaping tons of building materials on their van though - and then having to upgrade suspension, or re-rate the vehicle, and deal with the increased fuel consumption. Your vinyl went down very well! I haven't done mine yet - in the next few weeks hopefully.
Carpeting the plastic panels is a great idea! If one of ours wasn't cracked I would have considered it. We very nearly went 9mm and to be honest it would have probably been a better idea for weight and cost bearing in mind how well we battened the floor. We're not small people though and had heard people having issues with their floor flexing going with 9mm. We also would have had to wait for 9mm as there was none in stock... Good luck with your own floor Seb!
Thank you very much! Regarding the cracked plastic panel, would getting a cheap used one from the scrapyard be an option? Bear in mind that the body for vans between 2007-2020 is identical - barring the front and rear lights.
considered lino but going with carpet as i have 2 dogs and even the slightest break has them sliding down the van lol, need something they can get there claws into
Normal service will resume very soon. Will hopefully have the ceiling up, lights wired in and roof vent finishes sorted by the end of the weekend and a video will follow shortly. Appreciate you taking the time to watch! 🙂🍻
Your tutorials are amazing! I'm just about to do my floor battens and insulation and they've been a massive help!! Quick question - I've opted to go for 8mm laminate flooring instead of vinyl. Does that mean i won't need to have a plywood base? I've got some fibrewood underlay to level everything out so I have a feeling it should be okay
Hi, really sorry for the late reply but we had kinda switched off from all things van related over the Christmas period. Hope you found your answer elsewhere already but from what we've seen with other builds they still put a plywood base down for laminate flooring. Providing the surface you're laying the laminate down is solid without flex you'd think you'd be alright but again, looking at other builds most tend to lay on top of a ply base.
All these van builds are waste - clean the van up, get a top-notch airbed, and some portable/folding camping furniture/fixtures, high-end 2000-watt battery with solar, you are good to go. It shouldn't cost you more than $2000 on top of the van. And the entire space is always open for any use with any furniture/fixture anywhere - I may just put a couple nice lounge chairs where the bed is, now folded away, and open the tailgate to enjoy the sunset. If you want to feel luxurious, stay home.
👍👍Good afternoon, best van build videos online, you deserve more subscribers etc. stay safe be lucky. Steve. 👍👍

Thanks Andrew. And a merry Christmas to you and yours too! 🙂
Nice 👍🏻 great job looks fab, have a great Christmas and New year, sending love 💙✌️
Nice job as for ply you bought shuttering ply its cheap & cheerful desent ply these days is expensive so if you don't see it it don't matter
Thanks for the knowledge bomb Darren. Some of the quality ply at Buildbase was so much more money I just couldn't justify the outlay for this build. 🙂

Hey Paul, they're a couple of beauts mate! We'll probably cover our floor with some none slip mats for our Merlin and to protect the lino 🙂👍
Cracking job 🤣
Cheers Mick! 😁🍻
PROPER JOB !👨🏻🌾🐑☮️❤️👍😀
Thanks again mate! 🙂🍻
Do you have a link for this flooring? 👀
Hey, great videos! I'm following closely for my own build. What screws are you using for screwing down the plywood?
Nothing special mate, just wood screws I picked up from Wickes. With 12mm ply and a 25mm batten beneath I'm pretty sure I used 30mm screws. 🙂👍
when's the next video, can't wait
