Thank you for your service in helping the families and communities that can use these meal ideas. I greatly appreciate your efforts and ideas on how to fee lots of people for not a lot of money. 🥰
I think Uncle Roger will approve based on budget concerns in this day and age and the always witty presentation this channel is known for, so now you'll be *Uncle* WolfePit!
@@mwl81yet he did indicate that you might want to call it something else. He never once said this was “traditional” Asian fried rice of any kind. So I personally want to think Uncle Rodger would let it slide, for that alone.
I really appreciate that you use simple ingredients that don't require a lot of technique. My experience is that most of the people who need to eat this way didn't grow up with a lot of instruction in home economics and cooking techniques. Many other channels that try to use this budget concept are doing it with a lot of raw produce and other ingredients that require a little more effort or technique to cook well. When you've worked all day and then an extra 4-5 hours at your 2nd job you probably don't want to spend 40 minutes working with an eggplant or baby bok choy.
If you saute your rice BEFORE cooking it until lightly colored. It adds a great flavor, ii do this with all rice I cook except rice pudding of course. Especially good if you are making risotto .
You do this kinda backwards. Mix the rice, veggies and meat together in the hot oil, until everything is hot. Now add your scrambled eggs (scramble all 12) and turn off the heat. Mix the eggs through the rice/veggie/meat. The eggs can be left soft and delicious. Keep cooking, my brother.
Ive always made the eggs first, that was taught how to do it. Though, i personally dont leave the eggs in the pan, i set them aside on a plate so they dont overcook and just put them back in later
Rice, pasta, potato and bread are your friends when you're eating on a budget. Super simple recipe for a fine meal (sack of rice, dozen eggs, sack of frozen veggies and a splash of cooking oil)- I love fried rice, we make it on a pretty regular basis, or stir fry on rice which isn't terribly far off from fried.
@@geminiecricket4798 Its more like than not AI-based. I tend to just shrug it off and can generally figure out what word freaked it out and just use a substitute.
It's about taking the edge off the hunger, not being full. I did that for a few years when I was a student. I never felt full over those years, but I knew if I ate all the food there would be nothing for tomorrow. Back then I got very creative with just potatoes and onions, and is there ever a lot of ways to eat those! Keep up the good work.
Just made something similar to this and it was wonderful and cheap. As you stated I used leftover goodies and it turned it up a notch. Thanks again for your budget videos. They are much needed at this time.
This random budget recipe is unironically like 10x better than Jamie Olivers recipe, this is such a straight forward and practical recipe but it also looks tasty while keeping the basic fried rice form correct (ie, spring onion as garnish, using dry rice).
Love me some fried rice! It's a good "fridge cleaner" - throw in any leftover bits of meat/veg etc. I like to add a little butter to make it taste a bit more like takeout. Rice vinegar and sriracha are great additions too :) Highly recommend NOT using fresh rice so it doesn't turn into wallpaper paste, speaking from experience 🤣
Looks good Wolfe, I also make what I call eggy rice. Take the cold rice and mix with egg to let absorb then fry in oil, salt and pepper it's so good and cost even less!
Loved the recipe! I make quite a bit of fried rice (had to get a wok, it was getting ridiculous) and this is a nice mix to do for the family! Will try it this week. Thank you!
A man probably could eat it all. A real man in an actual survival situation or suffering hard financial times will feed his family first and eat what ever is leftover. I refuse to watch my children go hungry while my stomach is full. ✌️
I don't know, if your kids look like some of the ones I see waddling around obliviously sucked into some electronic device, they can afford to skip meals...for a month.
Good job. Some pan fried spam diced into cubes would go really well in that rice dish. The backside of a ladle makes breaking up the clumps of rice really easy.
Excellent! I would like to suggest that if everyone wants their rice to taste as close as possible to the Chinese restaurant, try triple rinsing it before cooking. You'll be shocked at the difference a couple minutes work makes.
I discovered the channel when I was a broke student and well it gave some ideas of combinations with the random food I had on hand so I am happy this channel existed from the other side of the atlantic! I still watch because well you never know if you turn broke again XD
I'm sure you don't want to hear this, but, I make this all the time......the only thing you left out is ground ginger and Cyanne or dried pepper flakes. Love your meals on a budget. It's all I can afford but I don't want for flavor or variety. Merry Christmas to you and Mrs. Pit and a very happy new year.
I'm from Poland, living alone, my monthly salary is $200 above the minimum, but apartment rental prices in big cities are terrible here, so I often eat similar dishes.
There are already a lot of uncle Roger requests which I would love to see him review this. At least there is no chili jam. Maybe you can get uncle status for us that are struggling because that looks great.
I always rinse rice (try to say it five times fast) before cooking. Leaving rice in fridge overnight will make it better for frying as it will evaporate some water.
rice is really affordable, too. goes a long way. tip: wash your rice in cold water if you want to reduce starch. leave rice in the fridge overnight. the texture is more like take out :)
The sad part is, As a single income home by myself I still make some of these meals just to distribute into easy to-go lunches and dinners for work and I live by myself with a decent income. I make these to save money, not that I need it to live. I live decently with constant income into savings and investments. But over the years the prices and inflation have gone crazy and I refuse Fast food and other increases. So as a single man I use these meals to use money into other investments such as stocks or home contract investments, or other things. This channels meals are solid for a budget and I add more to these on my own. Keep up the good work Wolfe.
Sup Larry, look its egg fried rice 😲, rice is filling for sure, soy sauce packets a genius use for them lol. Ever try fried rice or egg fried rice eith ponzu sauce or added oyster sauce? Even if you don't have an oven. A tablespoon of your favorite fat in the bottom of the pot and stir in the rice. Keep stirring every 30 seconds until it starts to take on color, then stir continuously until it reaches your desired toastification.
a few things. If you wanted to skip the step where you wanted to have the rice cool and use cold rice just use a 1:1 ratio of water to rice. Next this is lifted from the secrets of takeout fried rice video and that is use a dry blend of spices and a wet blend. ruclips.net/video/qURmdmgCCOI/видео.html trust me if you watch this you'll learn A LOT :) And last but not least.. if you have access to chinese sausage for the protein use that. Dice it up fine, fry it a bit and then add it to the mixture :)
Just remember when storing cooked rice, make sure it's chilled fast & kept cold so that bascillus cereus doesn't form, that stuff will ruin your day, and your meal...
In my opinion a wok is not a requirement really when it comes to making any fried rice. just get something that you can fit your rice and can mix without problems and you are all good. Your egg fried rice is really good tho

People that can "eat all of it" don't stop when they're full. That's the problem with this oversized supersize-it generation. I do think the fast food places are largely responsible for the obesity problem. Not so much because of what they serve but because of their prices. Who wouldn't want twice the food for another quarter. If they charged double for double the food things would certainly change.
Once upon a time in the long lost past of the 1980s, I was one of those "I can eat it all" guys. Now, as I journey through my 6th decade, that one cup serving would suit me just fine.
@@JerryB507 Same here. Young, skinny and working I could polish off a whole sub easily. People used to ask me if I had a tapeworm 🥺 Now, one egg, couple pieces of bacon, toast and a coffee fill me up.

Slumgullion is a term my mom used to find any left overs and add to the rice dishes as a casserole. Never wasted food ever circa 1952 through 1970.
