- A steam safari adventure. Originally filmed in Hi-8 format, this is the first part of a record of my 2000 trip to South Africa, with its fantastic scenery and impressive steam locomotives. Many runpasts, steep inclines and sinuous routes. Beyer Garratts aplenty and 8 coupled locos ranging from 1900 to 1950s builds. This episode covers Capetown, Elgin and Prince Alfred Hamlet lines. Turn up the volume!
Enjoyed your video you put together. Hope there more to come.

I rode a passenger tarin in 1981 from Cape town to Praetoria. On one leg a condenser Class 25 pulled us into Kimberly. Great memorable trip. Service was top notch and train was very clean.
