  • A steam safari adventure. Originally filmed in Hi-8 format, this is the first part of a record of my 2000 trip to South Africa, with its fantastic scenery and impressive steam locomotives. Many runpasts, steep inclines and sinuous routes. Beyer Garratts aplenty and 8 coupled locos ranging from 1900 to 1950s builds. This episode covers Capetown, Elgin and Prince Alfred Hamlet lines. Turn up the volume!

I rode a passenger tarin in 1981 from Cape town to Praetoria. On one leg a condenser Class 25 pulled us into Kimberly. Great memorable trip. Service was top notch and train was very clean.

Greetings from Cape Town, South Africa. I think this train was known as the Union Limited back then.
