Funny, in an Instagram Q+A Mayer said he doesn't like playing Assassin anymore because he just doesn't really connect with the message/vibe of the song. And it's clearly a tune that was written back when he was really feeling like hot shit during his "womanizing" era. If he now feels distanced enough from all that so he can just play the song and enjoy it for what it is, that's a really great sign and I hope we get to hear it more! There were some jammed-out extended outros of it from 2009/2010 that would be wonderful to get again...
He hinted about a certain song he didn’t really like in one of his interviews and I was right, it’s Assassin lol. He said he didn’t want to say which song it was because it could be many of his fans’ favourite. I understand why though. It’s a nice sound but the words to the song is a bit too cheesy. It’s flirting the idea of becoming a James Bond theme a bit too hard lyrics wise

Battle Studies is an underrated album. So many gems on that one. It’s overshadowed by the notorious Playboy interview he came out with, and his douche persona he countered the press with following it. It’s a shame the songs never really had a time too shine on their own tour.

His catchy guitar solo in - 'Heartbreak Warfare' made that song a hit. Heartbreak Warfare was also played in the soundtrack of the movie - Date Night' Every JM album has a bag full of hits!
