During Easter Week, Semana Santa, the Spanish celebrate by parading their statues of Jesus and the Virgin Mary through the streets. Here it is in Almería where there are more than 20 similar parades. The Penitents, dressed in spooky Klu Klux Klan type outfits, accompany the parade through the streets. The platform containing the holy statues is moved along by many tens of fit young men beneath the platform who carry their heavy load on their heads. The procession lasts many hours and can cover up to 10km.

The KKK copied the clothing of the Nazarenes, Spanish Catholic penitents who go out at Easter, and who are much older than the KKK. This clothing with the hood or cap makes impossible to distinguish the penitent who is going, anonymous, to perform religious penance. With that hood the real height of the person is hidden. It has nothing to do with the KKK. Perhaps those of the KKK copied it so as not to be identified and inspire a religious fear that has nothing to do, I insist, with the true Nazarenes of Spanish Holy Week who have been participating in processions since the 16th century.

Kkk got their inspiration from medieval times, the brotherhood. But these costumes are actually distinct with semana santa being different colors and designs.
