I'm white and I choose shows, movies etc. that are interesting, funny, spooky, whatever I wanna watch. I honestly couldn't care less about the skin colour of the people in the show. I care about their personality, their attitude, their sense of humor and all that jazz, sure, but skin colour..?? Maybe it's because I'm South African, so for me it's normal to see people of all kinds of different ethnicities, both in daily life and on YT or television. Maybe that's different in the US. Where I live, white people, are in the minority, so I guess many things are different here. They should just make shows for human audiences and then everyone can choose what they like. Shows 'for black audiences' just sounds so weird to me. What's next? Shows for people with brown hair and blue eyes? ...😂😂😂
I saw black girls I clicked 😍 I love HBCUs . Did marching band for 4 years and I miss it so much 😩 watching Beyoncé Coachella performance took me back to the good old days and she used Grambling 🤟🏽
I remember when Kayla spent a weekend at Grambling State, trying to decide whether she wanted to try out for the team. It was in Season 5 of Bring It! and right after she left her co-coaching position with the Dolls. She did a lot of soul searching, and I'm so glad she did. I'm so SO proud of her. GO Kayla- and what a great new show. This will fill my DD4L void! :D
It’s to keep you on your toes so you don’t get complacent and start to half ass, you are still able to build a strong sister hood during practice and practice outside of main practice. Ultimately it teaches the girls that in life there is no security and if you fail you need to work hard to bounce back
As someone who has danced for a dance company, weekly audition are unnecessary. It’ll make dancers anxious for no reason 🤦🏾♀️ Edit: I didn’t finish the video when I commented this. I thought they were auditioning for the team but it’s for the performance. 😂
My mother used to be a ballerina and she told me for anyone going into performance be it an Actor or dancer or singer you need to be on your game at all times personally I think weekly additions is the same thing you would do if you were trying to do your thing as a performer in New York or LA you would be trying to get into an audition every day that you could at least once a week on your A game all the time.
Jemel Bates I agree. I misunderstood. I thought there were auditions every week so they can replace members of the company. Dancers SHOULD audition for parts they want.
Not going to lie I love that they have try outs every week because everyone no matter who it is even if it's a new girl to the school gets a chance to dance
Omg they're all so pretty & fierce! I was thinking hey, this is like Bring It but for adults, & then next thing there's one of the girls who used to be a Dancing Doll. I hope she gets selected! And they do that EVERY WEEK!?! Guess it keeps them on their toes, & I guess it's good preparation for those that plan to be professional dancers after college.
Woop woop theres kayla I was in a different room but I heard the commercial come on well I was watching cheerleaders and I knew it was her voice I'm so happy she's furthering her education in dance and schooling I can't wait for her to open her own or create her hip hop team that she wanted
We definitely NEED more series/shows about these HBCU dance teams and band. Wish I was able to find online Bama State Style [Asu] show and Why not us [Southern] sadly I haven't 😢 ... love this series big time!!
Awesomeness TV you have always been my favorite but now even more so! Thank you for putting a spotlight on HBCUs. Cheer isn't limited to pom poms and stunts and Beyonce didn't invent drum majors and dance squads for entertainment at Coachella. It's a huge deal in black southern culture and sometimes the competition between the bands and dance squads are more anticipated than the game. There's kids who don't live in the south who have no idea about HBCUs which are open to people of every ethnicity. As a mother of kids who were involved with competitive cheer and tumbling while growing up I would have loved for them to be exposed to a different form of cheer on a popular channel besides BET. It shows that black culture is American culture. And I hope more kids see this and get inspired to attend a HBCU. Representation is important. I apologize for getting on my soapbox but there were a couple of comments I saw that touched a nerve and I felt the need to educate.
madree p as an east coast black woman, I have always been aware of the HBCUs. I don’t know a black person in philly who is unaware. This is all a part of black culture.
@@boomboom6577 as a west coast black woman I can assure you that it's not a part of black culture here. When I was a young child in Seattle it was, my cousins in California also had some exposure. But as all of those cities have undergone multiple rounds of gentrification and we have lost our predominantly black neighborhoods things have changed. I live in Portland Oregon which is my mother's hometown and it is a very large city and the black population is not quite 6%. For the whole city. The state numbers are just as bad. So believe me. There are plenty of black kids out here who know nothing about black culture.
madree p: lol, I live in the Southwest now, and I thought when I was writing my comment “except for some parts of the west coast.” But I haven’t been here long enough to speak to black culture out here, so I chose not to point that out. That’s why I said “east coast.” I didn’t want to assume that west coast black folks may not know about hbcu’s, though I suspected that was the case. I was trying to give benefit of the doubt. But I hear you. My point stands about it being a part of black culture in places other than the south, however.
@@boomboom6577 I probably should have specified west coast. As well as some of the midwest. I guess I forget about the rest of the world sometimes lol. It was hard moving here as a little girl. I went from double Dutch and drill teams to square dancing. Literally. I just think since Awesomeness is California heavy programming that it will maybe show some of the youth what HBCUs have to offer.
At my high school we modeled ourselves after them, and honestly it made us on our toes, but we got good, never taken off of the team just not dancing that week, you can always come back with a vengeance.
Man when I was in school I didn’t know this existed! I wish that I was apart of something like this! I was in a cheerleading squad but I would’ve loved being in an all black girl squad. It would’ve helped my confidence!
Actually wish there were 16-21 Dancers...give more young ladies a chance and opportunity to represent their University and Band. Next to impossible "tryouts" every week is too extreme. Perhaps the only things the Dancers should really stress-out about are their STUDIES and tuition LOANS which will surely follow them for most if not their entire lives. Dancing and performing with the HBCU University Band should be a relief in lieu of being an additional affliction of grief and sorrow because of constant rejection and "smelling the diesel"...what a psychotic depraved being who came-up with this evil process? Grambling needs to change it's slogan. Lighten up - they're all clearly talented, do not seek to bring shame upon the University, are absolutely beautiful... 💎 💎 💎 💎 💎...and Somebodies WE ALL WOULD LIKE TO SEE!!! 👏 🌹 🏆
Not a majorette fanatic because I dont know a thing about dance lol but I definitely appreciate their grace, sass and elegance! Automatic view from me every week because it's an HBCU and I love Black girl artistic expression. Follow an HBCU Stomp And Shake cheer team next please!!
Finally a show about HBCU this girls are slaying it
Cheer Sloth there’s one on Netflix about Bethune Cookman and Bama State had one as well. We’re on the rise!
right!
*these
@@ereese6479 well that focused more on the band because you remember season of the tiger and the battle for GSU TV shows
adorable pineapple I’m serious

Omg they freaking do?!?!? Shes amazing!
Hold up.. black audiences cant watch white ppl? Wow
Erica you makin us seem ignorant smh 🙄

Allias Vl0gs she never said that but it is finally a shoe where black peoples can relate to others
When Beyoncé notices you you’re doing something right 😍👏🏽
Beyonce is interested in what they possess. Straight talent. 😍💖
Aniya Raine You sure do sound LOW CLASS and trashy.
@Aniya Raine they DANCED with Beyonce that is why she said it
Fr! Out of all the HBCUs she could've spotlighted, I'm glad she picked them.
veronicajade20 she is which is why she doesn't deserve a response 😂
“Dance is not a season it’s an art form” I really love that 💯
Omg it’s Kayla from bring it
Omg I thought that was her too😂
I thought I recognized her from somewhere!! Happy to see her still going!
Cheer Sloth yesssssss I was shocked
Did she leave ddp??
John Murphy I have no idea maybe she just left to go to college
I saw black girls I clicked 😍 I love HBCUs . Did marching band for 4 years and I miss it so much 😩 watching Beyoncé Coachella performance took me back to the good old days and she used Grambling 🤟🏽
The Dancing Dolls fan in me only wants to see Kayla 😗

Mrs. Dianne is a goddamn LEGEND!!!! #AlvinAiley
Thank you! That makes so much sense now lol I was trying to figure out where I recognized her from and couldn’t for the life of me figure it out!
@David Riddick She danced and choreographed.
Snobby Politics let’em know!!!
The young lady in the glasses, just stands out to me. So beautiful!! Older dancer looks amazing, keeping your body moving pays off.

Yeah I'm really going to miss the old heads
Auditions every week? I feel so bad for them, esp if they already have mental struggles. How crippling it must be to their self esteem 😫🥺
kyle exactly that means each week you can get replaced.... that makes no sense to me
It’s to keep you on your toes so you don’t get complacent and start to half ass, you are still able to build a strong sister hood during practice and practice outside of main practice. So proud of the Orchesis dance company....they deserve the shine....long overdue 💛🖤🐯
Yessss!!! I love seeing Kayla do her thing!!!
we need a show representing HBCU’s!!!
The judge from Bring it!
That's where i seen here was trying to figure that out
I had to look into the comments to make sure I wasn't trippin.
Yeah she works with the Grambling Majorette team
Nicole Lashawn that explains why she was always so tough on those girls during competition
Yes and she referred Kayla to the Grambling State team
Kayla 😍 I didn’t know she chose Grambling
Joy Mechell she ended up at another school and danced there for a year . I think Stillman College
Yes. Finally, a show about HBCU dance team. Yes, for Louisiana! Our people are so beautiful ❤️
*in New York’s voice*: BEYONCÉ?!?!
Omgggg I’m so proud of Kayla I remember when she left dd4l
Yes a majorette show!!!! I love it ✊🏾

Yes! Finally some HBCU love! Thank you for being inclusive on this channel!
KAYLAAAAA!!!! I'm so happy to see her back doing what she does best! 😄😄😄

Love it. I remember watching Lyric dance when she was young. She has an amazing spirit. I’m so proud of her. Can’t wait to watch more episodes
Yessss!!!!!!!! Kayla I’m so glad she’s still dancing!!!!!!
Well you can't deny the coach's success and ability but I wouldn't want to see my daughter having to go thru the stress of tryouts every week.
Well she just gotta be on it this is a dance company not a danceline
Weekly auditions damn that's BRUTAL!
Lyric looking like she about 16 I had to replay it back twice when she said she was 23 😆
Great job ODC! You make us proud every week. Go Grambling!!!

They always have gotten recognition. Grambling just being Grambling. 👍
its interesting about the weekly tryouts they dont have a set team interesting
👍🏾
At my high school we modeled ourselves after them, and honestly it made us on our toes, but we got good, never taken off of the team just not dancing that week, you can always come back with a vengeance.
I kinda like that because their giving other girls an opportunity to participate and work hard to join the dance group.
She likes to prepare you for the real dance world. You get a clear understanding that no spot is promised.
GramFam this is amazing. #Grambling 🖤💛
I’m livingggg for this new show!!! I’ve been on a college dance team before but I’d be freaking out if I tried out to perform every week
Yessss Kayla!!!!!!!!!!! So proud of her😘😘😘
Great show. I love it and keep it on this channel. This IS a form of cheer, they actually go to games. Nobody says DCC isn't cheer.
Actually plenty of people do and are feeling triggered by this
Man when I was in school I didn’t know this existed! I wish that I was apart of something like this! I was in a cheerleading squad but I would’ve loved being in an all black girl squad. It would’ve helped my confidence!
Yess finally showcasing black excellence!!!!notice it doesn’t have many views and likes as the other shows on her.. sad
True that! You legit a boss lady! Like you the star of the show and legit the main entertainment. They are amazing!👏🏾💪🏾💯
