12:55 Are these Bikes for You?
Today, we are reviewing the new Salsa Blackthorn and Cassidy mountain bikes. Salsa Cycles is not typically known for long travel, aggressive, super enduro-style mountain bikes. So when we heard they were coming out 2 brand new enduro-style bikes, we couldn't help but get excited. We have been testing them both for the past few months and have been seriously impressed. The Blackthorn is your typical enduro bike with 140mm rear and 160mm front travel. Whereas the Cassidy is what many consider a "super enduro" bike, 165mm in the rear and 180mm in the front. Oh, and did we mention that they utilize Dave Weagle's infamous DW link suspension? Clearly, Salsa means business because neither of these bikes is for the faint of heart. Let's check in with Jeff and see what he had to say about both of the new Salsa mountain bikes!

Both, Cassidy, ill push uphill to have stability on the downside. This is really gonna take off I think now that you featured these two. But the Blackthorn would be more practical for all-around trail riding. Some people need a bike that can climb well, and be stable downhill. are these a one-quiver bike? I think with some tweaks the Blackthorn may work. Jeff didn't mention the climbing ability of the Blackthorn, but i assume with it being a long and slack frame, it would compromise ok climbing for downhill solidity. cool! Glad you guys are repping Salsa. They have been around a long time and I'm old now lol

I own a Ripmo V1 and also tried a Ripley. The Ripmo is probably the best do it all bike out there. It climbs just so exceptionally well and lacks nothing on the downhills. I was between the SB130 and the Ripmo. After trying them both the Ripmo was the clear winner IMO. I probably will add a Ripley to my collection soon, but I want to try the Transition Spur before I make a decision. You will love the Ripmo.

These look great but I don't really get calling the prices good. They seem pretty overpriced for the spec compared to what you get with stuff like the ripmo af, fezarri, commencal, etc. Even giant I think has better specced options for the price point (although I'll admit geo looks pretty ok). And the ripmo af also has dw designed suspension. In fact the price for the entry level carbon is about what most "boutique" brands charge for their entry level. A lot of entry level carbon is 4500. For 3100 you get an aluminum salsa with a 35 gold. 3200 gets you a ripmo af with dvo suspension.
I'm of course focusing on the low to mid range models. I really have no concept of what 7500 gets you.
