HOLY CRAP! Two of my absolute favourites in one video!!!! Stan Hansen used to scare me so bad I pissed my pants as a 10 year old. I will never forget his AWA reign of terror including beating up announcer Larry Nelson and wreaking havoc over the entire promotion. Stan and Brody are at the top of my Mt. Rushmore with Funk, Abdullah, Carlos Colon, etc. What a great time to be a fan!!!! Thanks for this wonderful video!
Hansen worked for NJWP from Jan. 1977 to the end of 1981, before his 'unexpected' entry into AJWP on Dec. 13 by interfering in the Funks vs. Brody, Snuka match for the Real World Tag Team Tournament finals. He had classic matches with Inoki and countless others including an amazing brawl with Andre during his NJWP tenure. He was one of New Japan's most popular and successful foreign talent in those years.
Love both of these guys. Stan used to intimidate the hell out of me growing up. Crazy now seeing him out of character and he's like a loveable grandfather lol. Great to see him still doing well all these years later.
What Hansen doesn't point out is how integral the pro wrestling press of Japan was, especially at that time. At certain points there were daily papers covering wrestling with a veracity never seen by western audiences. Imagine a less biased Wrestling Observer with even more historical knowledge with many journalist who spent decades covering the ins and outs of showa era puro.

"I GOT A BIG FAT WIFE & 9 KIDS!!!!" That promo Hansen cut was a trip
Good lord I could listen to Jim and Stan shoot for hours.
Hansen seems like such a nice guy! Considering what a fearsome reputation he had.
He gives me that nice-grandpa-who-committed-unspeakable-atrocities-during-wartime vibe
They're not mutually exclusive.

Stan mercing Vader in the stiff fest was one my favorites

@@NLaBar 👍
I read Stan’s book recently and it has a huge portion dedicated to his Japan travels
I love hearing the old stuff, and the mention of Loranger always tickles me- i live 10 miles from there and saw many shows in the early 80s.
Sounds like a wild good time
