He's an incredibly nice guy. The polar opposite of who he is in the wrestling world. He appeared at an indy show in Dallas a few years back and I met him. He was very polite and friendly to everyone that approached him. He shook hands with everyone, took pictures, signed autographs and never said no. Complete gentleman and I can't say enough nice things about him. Humble, laid back and not in the least bit arrogant.
Stan Hansen is a great interview. He is so gracious and so good at explaining how things worked back then. I loved watching him back in the day. An amazing talent.
I loved the American influence in All Japan, esp Stan Hansen, Bruiser Brody, the Funks, the British Bulldogs, Furnas & Lafon, Ted Dibiase, Vader etc made All Japan the shitznit, All Japan in the 80's was imo the best Pro Wrestling business in the World
To me the 90s were even better. I think there was never a wrestling product so consistently good from an in-ring perspective over such a long time like All Japan from 1989/90 till the exodus in 2000. Jumbo Army vs New Generation Army, Misawa and Kobashi vs Holy Demon Army, Misawa vs Kobashi. All great feuds that deliverd countless great matches. And inbetween Hansen, Williams, Gordy, Vader, Furnas & LaFon, Ace and Albright. Simply amazing. Also I noticed that back in the 70s and early 80s it seems that there weren't really that many Japanese stars in AJPW. It was mostly Jumbo and Baba and the rest of the main eventers seemed to be Americans like the Funks, Hansen, Brody, Snuka, Flair, Race, Bockwinkel or Billy Robinson.
@@MisterBeauJanGels Giant Baba had a lot of pull that's how he got Doctor Death Steve Williams to get out back to america after he was caught with drugs and then comeback a year later ...
Pro Wrestling as a whole is almost unrecognizable today. Watching today's product is like watching my daughters dance rehearsal class. I'm not kidding.
Stan Hansen was the most exciting wrestler of all time. All the moves he had considering his size was just amazing. The ring was not nearly big enough! Chairs, tables, ring post's, blood, and the lariat. There were just no limits when he wrestled.
AJPW was the absolute fucking shit. In terms of pure wrestling, they were matched by no one. Best technical wrestling ever. There were no stupid story lines. just 2-4 competitors giving it everything. Best crowds. I didn't know about AJPW till I was 12 and got Giant Gram 2000: AJPW 3 on dreamcast. I'm a nut for wrestling games and decided to try it. I was hooked instantly because that game is probably the best wrestling game I've ever played. That gave me the nudge to watch some matches and I was blown away. These guys don't fuck around and having our heels go over there to become heroes was unreal. I love AJPW, I can watch it for days and would someday like to own every single match and telecast on dvd. Gonna dig up the dreamcast and rock some AJPW 3 tonight.
Just an absolute all-time great as a wrestler, and even a better guy outside the ring. When you talk about icons of a sports, he is the epitome of a pro wrestling icon.
I could listen to Stan tell stories all day. He's like this cool, world wise older uncle who entertains while trying to pass on his knowledge. But you seriously don't want to piss him off...ever.
A true gentleman outside the ring. And your WORST nightmare inside of it...!!! If you don't like your opponent stiff and potatoing you. And busting you open the hard way. Then by all means don't wrestle against this man.
Good to see Stan talking about ole school 70's grappling. A real gentleman. I would have to say that you're right in point, Marcus. The difference between Hansen & Ole Anderson is like night and day. But then again, that's reality social media "$hooting". Always the dollars ! Hahaha
Love behind the scenes, back story of wrestling. See and meet the real people. Stan hansen tells get stuff. Always want to hear his side of theAWA situation.
Stan described Funk Sr. as "greater than any president." He started with a copy of Terry Funk and changed from Viking style to Texan again He is a lucky owner who has survived the WWF blunder. This is also Stan's humanity. It's all about comparison with his partner B.Brody. It looks very happy.
To be fair the style Hansen talks about, the 10-minute hold-milking style from the 60s, 70s and early 80s, can be so mindnumbingly boring I would take a no-brain-spotfest over it any day. I've watched a lot of those matches. Some of them were interesting, especially when the Destroyer was in them, but as soon as I watched an Inoki match and he locked in that short arm scissors I groaned because I knew they would stay in that exact position without moving for like the next 15-20 minutes. I literally could get up, make a sandwich, come back and miss nothing. I once saw an Inoki match against a relatively lower card guy that only went about 10 minutes. And even in those 10 minutes he spend like half of it in that move. This style couldn't last. Baba knew that too, that's why he replaced it with his King's Road style, while New Japan started using strong style and started building up their Junior Heavyweight Division.
Zc Justice I was mostly refering to the hold milking style that was wrestled in the 60s and 70s and that could be either interesting or very boring. Even back in the 70s, Hansen already wrestled a much more brawly style that spiced things up a bit. But if you insist, there are Hansen matches that didn't really bring the house down so to speak: - vs Jumbo in the Triple Crown unification match. Wasn't really bad, but wasn't interesting either except for the historic value of the match. - vs Kawada in 95 for the Triple Crown. Granted Hansen was getting on in age, but that's why it was baffling that they actually put the belt on him for one last run. - And I'm quite sure I saw some Hansen vs Gordy matches in 1990 that were also not the most exciting matches I have ever seen.
Not a boring one but his first (I think first) match with Misawa, the one where Mitsuharu first won the Triple Crown, was a massive disappointment. Their other matches together were better.
Yep - I believe he was the first person to slam Andre. Either him or Harley Race. Here's a list of people who have done so; all of them are bad mother fuckers (except for Hogan and Warrior, of course): Antonio Inoki Riki Choshu Stan Hansen Steve Williams Harley Race Seiji Sakaguchi Hulk Hogan Ultimate Warrior
Am old school. When u put Stan Lariat Hansen Vs Terry Don't Quite Funk in match. Hugs Box Office. U President Of The Untied State Army the Navy the Marines. Governor and Mayor of course. Police the Sheriff the SWAT Team and Share Sharpshooter and last. National Guard and Security 👏👏👏👏👏🔥
Stan Hansen is like the opposite of Ole Anderson. Super laid back, lovable dude with nothing much bad to say about anyone or anything.
He's an incredibly nice guy. The polar opposite of who he is in the wrestling world. He appeared at an indy show in Dallas a few years back and I met him. I met him two years ago super nice guy.
Stan Hansen is a great interview. He is so gracious and so good at explaining how things worked back then. I loved watching him back in the day. An amazing talent.
Gotta give Hannibal credit. These interviews are great.
Stan Hansen looks like he could still kick some ass.

What happened to All Japan? Is it still around?? Now I only hear about New Japan
Thanks for the info. Did they have financial issues???

The Von Erich boys were big in Japan too
When David died in Japan there was 130 thousand at his wake ! Japan loved those boys
Says a lot about the man Baba was that people trusted him without even signing a contract.
Unlike Puerto Rico!
I think he's just speaking off the cuff. I can't see how it would be possible to obtain a work visa without some sort of contract.
@@MisterBeauJanGels Giant Baba had a lot of pull that's how he got Doctor Death Steve Williams to get out back to america after he was caught with drugs and then comeback a year later ...
I still wouldn't mess with Stan Hansen even at his age now.
same. that old dude could probably kick 99 percent of the country's ass, including mine.
This guy and Terry Funk seem like guys you could have a beer with
And I did Terry and Dory were good drinkers after the matches in Tampa !!!!!!
Pro Wrestling as a whole is almost unrecognizable today. Watching today's product is like watching my daughters dance rehearsal class. I'm not kidding.
I know what you mean.
Stan is such an awesome guy, and you'd never guess it from how ferocious he was in the ring

He had great chemistry with Andre. They had great matches in the late 70s in Japan.
We Japanese fans are proud to see your interview. I miss you talking about The Funks and Baba san and Japanese wrestlers.
I watched him for years. His character was so good, that I didn't realize he is actually a nice guy.lol
I think Brody&Hansen vs Doc & Gordy would have been an all-time classic
Sean Rankin //))]
You're mentioning 2 top tag team. They are standing out in Japan.
One of the greatest of all time, so believable in the ring
This guy is so damn likeable.
Great interviews. Stan was the man!!
Stay On Stan IS the man
Your a great wrestler and a gentleman and I've enjoyed your matches over the years.
Hansen vs. Baba made All Japan throughout their career!
Stan the Lariat, one of my all time favorites!
A true gentleman outside the ring. And your WORST nightmare inside of it...!!! If you don't like your opponent stiff and potatoing you. And busting you open the hard way. Then by all means don't wrestle against this man.
He sounds so nice lol Wasn't expecting that
Stan the Man Hanson another bad ass legend.
two great lengends terry funk and stan hansen

"Ah I don't know, a little too hard." CLASSIC
Stan Hansen baddest & toughest ex pro Wrestler.
Japan loves him a lot.

His character was so mean and violent, but Stan Hansen seems like a nice guy someone you can hang out with.

He seems like such a kind nice man. Nothing like that brut in the ring who demolished people
Stan Hansen opens up , telling about his time in Japan . Look for his match vs. Terry Funk online . Talk about going at it hammer and tong .
Stan was a big rough tough cowboy......
6:21 well you had me fooled bud.
Says he wasn't stronger than very many wrestlers but could turn Andre for a slam lol
Loved it that he chewed tobacco and wrestled at the same time.
Stan Hansen will whoop that ass.
Stan is dead on about today's wrestling. It looks like a fucking gymnastic routine.

If you have seen a boring Hansen match... let me know.

I know, right? Hansen to me was the most non-stop, hard hitting, exciting wrestler ever. An insanely fast pace. He was the greatest.
Not a boring one but his first (I think first) match with Misawa, the one where Mitsuharu first won the Triple Crown, was a massive disappointment. Their other matches together were better.
How in the world did Hansen work with Ole? Stan is so calm and Ole acts like he is getting ready to go to the ring for a cage match.
Hansen slammed Andre the Giant.
Yep - I believe he was the first person to slam Andre. Either him or Harley Race. Here's a list of people who have done so; all of them are bad mother fuckers (except for Hogan and Warrior, of course):

Panzer4F2 bill Eddie (masked superstar and Ax) slammed him. Supposedly
Add El Canek to the list

Please translate into Japanese
These shoots shows he was nothing like his character
Don't mention Abdulah the Butcher to Devon.
Stan could run for president of Japan and he would win
