Thank you for the thorough review. I noticed for high school they have the spectrum chemistry. The $312 price tag is a bit steep but looks like a great curriculum and possibly more fun than the apologia chemistry.
To get the high school credits, does this curriculum need to be supplemented in any way? My son needs a Biology credit, but doesn't want to dissect, does it have other labs to take its place? I've been going crazy trying to find a Science curriculum that will keep his attention, he is a visual and hands on learner.
Hello! Four years later... Did you finish both years of the curriculum? Just wondering if you had any final thoughts on it after this first video. Thanks!
Hi, we did do both years and they were fun. Not quite as in depth as maybe I would like, and some of our experiments didn't pan out. But overall we enjoyed it. We have now moved on to BJU Press for Science for high school and love it for college prep!
Thanks so much for this detailed review! I was originally trying to find video based science curriculum for my middle schooler (such as BJU), but now highly considering Rainbow science. The way they describe their philosophy is that they present science as an integrated whole (hence the specific order from physics to chemistry and then to biology) - have you found this perspective something that made a difference for your child? It seems this is what they say what makes them different from other science curriculums - and I'm curious how students have benefitted from this (or not). I"m also curious if you think this is rigorous enough - I've seen some other comments about this being not meaty enough, what's your take? I like how it doesn't take too much time and that the text is a conversational style.....but I wonder if it is enough preparation for high school science. Thanks!
Thanks for the review! I am researching this curriculum, there is now a second edition textbook. Will the second edition teacher manual and lab book (the ones you show in your video) work with the first edition book? Do you know if there is much difference in the 2 textbooks? Thanks!
What did you have to purchasecto use it with 2 kids? Full set and the extra lab notebook...Did they do experiments together with one set or does it need a set for each?
Yes, I just got an extra lab notebook for my second child. We did the reading and experiments together but I wanted them to each fill out their own labs. You could probably share one lab notebook if you wanted to.
Can you use this curriculum together? I have an advanced 3rd grader and a 7th grader. What would you think would be best for combining science with them. We've used Abeka in the past, but then I was doing science with each of them.
I wouldn't suggest it for your 3rd grader. But should be fine for your 7th. If you want something that is a good combo, you might check into my Expedition Earth Curriculum. It is a World Geography/Science curriculum :) You can find it here: bit.ly/2vfGZjs
Would you use this for a 6th grader? He can read well and comprehend, but would likely need help with labs and extensive writing. Trying to keep 6th and 8th grader together
Hi, Erica. :) Since this is a two year program for grades 8 and 9, will I be able to count the second year (9th grade) science for high school credit? Thanks in advance!
We started this curriculum this year as well based on your initial video at the beginning of the year. My son (upcoming 8th grade) loves it. We will be continuing it next year as well. Thanks for your videos. This was our first year homeschooling and your videos have been really helpful with all the curriculum choices. We also did find additional quizzes on the website beginningspublishing.com/RainbowQuizzes.pdf
So excited to see this review. My 7th grader is doing this curriculum this year also and I love it so far even though he is only 3 weeks in. My only concern is that you said you used it for your 8th/9th graders and I thought I remember the publisher telling me it was a Jr high science. Do you think there is anything my 7th grader won't be able to do in Physics and Chemistry sections?

They have printable quizzes on there website
I'm late in the game watching your video but do you know if there is a comparable program for younger kids, ages 3rd/4th?

Hi, that would be a question for the vendor. I would hate to give you the wrong information! :)

@@erica_arndt So one set of experiment materials was fine? Did you guys do both years and recommend it?

Are the materials for experiments enough to share with more than one kid or do you need separate material kits?
You can do the experiments together as a group, but it's not enough supplies for each child to do their own experiment if that makes sense.
@@erica_arndt Thanks! I ordered it for my kiddos.
Would you use this for a 6th grader? He can read well and comprehend, but would likely need help with labs and extensive writing. Trying to keep 6th and 8th grader together
No, it’s geared more towards high school so I would probably wait until he’s older
I have a 8th grader that struggles with reading. In your opinion is the required reading hard?
It's not difficult, but you may want to read with them if they're struggling just to make sure they understand all of the vocab.
This looks exactly like what my daughter is asking for. Thanks for posting!
Hi, Erica. :) Since this is a two year program for grades 8 and 9, will I be able to count the second year (9th grade) science for high school credit? Thanks in advance!
Yes, they have a section on their website with high school credit info for The Rainbow.

When you used this for 9th grade what did you call it on the transcript?
Year 1: Science: Physical Science
Year 2: Science: Biology
@@erica_arndt did you do another Biology science after the 2nd year rainbow or did you go straight to Chemistry?
If I do this program starting in 8th grade for my daughter can she get a high school credit for it in 9th since it’s a two year program?
Yes, I believe that is how they list it on their website.
I cannot find anyone that is selling it. Where can you purchase it?
There is a link in the description box above and you can get it here: www.beginningspublishing.com/
I would like to hear your abeka review opinion? Also
I would like to see a review on how you do your abecka science ...?
I would like to hear your abeka review opinion?
Does it cover Simple machines?
I don't remember that being in there, but you'll want to check their website for the syllabus.
Would this be ok for a 6th grader?
No, probably a little too hard for a 6th grader. They do offer an elementary level curriculum I believe.
How long are the lessons?
It depends on the day, I usually set aside at least 30-45min
@@erica_arndt thank you

No, I think it's fine. Year 1 is meant for 8th and Year 2 is meant for 9th. But I think your 7th grader will be totally fine! :)
Erica Arndt Thank you
Did you ever find out if it would could for high school credit?
Yes, you can count year 2 for highschool credit.
Answer- yes, duh lol that would be my child's answer too.
I caught that too. LOL I think that would be my son's answer too. 😂
