Oshimi’s psuedo-realistic artstyle has really spoiled me. I feel like I can’t even read other psychological thriller seinen manga since CnW is kinda just in a league of its own. Also *huge* agree about the Aku no Hana anime. The rotoscoping, accidentally or not, really seemed to capture the unease that Oshimi goes for in his works. The odd pacing, cutaway visuals, and even the poor framerate all added to the unique style. I can understand folks turned off by the framey presentation or the aged-up cast, but for me as a person who generally isn’t a fan of anime, that one really did it for me.
as someone with a narcissistic parent, i found this manga visceral yet comforting. i found the ending of the series optimistic and i understood the sense of peace that Sei appeared to find.
This is actually the first manga I've ever read. Also a tip for someone who wants to read this: don't stare at the psycho bitch's face for too long or you'll start having nightmares
Its good but honesty i dont expect there to be an actual diagnosis for the mom. Japan doesnt have the best track record of understanding mental health.
To be fair, human psychology is a pretty murky field even now. And yeah I def agree Japan needs to do better on mental health issues, but I think there's also a problem in the west (especially regarding things like personality disorders and ADHD spectrum disorders) with throwing out diagnosis names, writing a bunch of prescriptions, and never really getting to the bottom of the issue. Chi no Wadachi is a pretty good exploration of how severely enmeshment can fuck people up, I don't know if adding a scene where the mother is diagnosed with BPD would add much depth.
@@ניין-י9ש I'm not a professional in the field myself, this is just my understanding from what I've seen and read. The problem is not that the diagnosis isn't accurate, but with things like personality disorders, the diagnosis is just a name for the cluster of symptoms, not the cause. Like, a stomachache can be caused by many different factors, and the same is true for personality disorders, but people sometimes treat a diagnosis name as an answer instead of just the beginning, even though we don't fully understand everything that causes personality disorders. So there seems to be a schism between people who see a diagnosis as something to be treated, possibly medicalized, in and of itself, and people who see it as just the beginning of figuring out what caused a person to be that way. I think there are definitely uses for medication and a diagnosis can help, but it's usually not a "disease" in the traditional sense, and medication is often just treatment for the symptoms and not a cure.
This manga is the most horrifying thing I’ve ever read, I couldn’t even finish it. It felt so real, which made it even more scary. The expressions and the gore (which is sparse, but when it does, it explodes into the scene) made it very VERY overstimulating for me. It’s so good, yet I wouldn’t recommend it for how disgusting it made me feel.

Man, this manga is insane. Spoil. At the point where we are, we are actually lead to believe seiichi is responsible for everything, as we actually wonder if his mother really did push Shigeru if he imagine it all the way because he wanted his cousin to die, and we realize his mother actually hates him and did all the bad things she did because of him... Meaning he is the actual reason he suffered all along. Man, he is the antagonist of this book, as he is the one to kill Shigeru in the end, acting just like his mother did. He hates himself just as much as she hates him. It's just so fucked up, every character is a monster, every character is guilty, everything makes us question everyone and everything... You know those kind of mangas where you cannot find a character to dislike? This is the total opposite. Because of the realism and shitty life of each character, I literally cannot find one character to like no matter how much I identify and understand them... I mean, maybe except Fuckishi, but god knows what's gonna happen next. Everything in this manga makes me feel dirty, but I can't stop reading it, it's just too well done, too well written. This is psychological horro at it's peak
@@criminalsaint9611 okay I get you hate manga but this doesn't have anything to do with that, what I get from your comment is "everything japan makes is trash" which is obviously not true. I don't know if the author was forced to continue due to money or if he had intended to continue in the first place, but all I can say is that I just feel like it flows perfectly and, while different from the beginning of the Manga, it's just as good, in a different kind of way. It just tells how Seiichi is being impacted by his mother, and it shows the Manga in a whole new perspective, pushing us to understand why the mother did that (rather than her just being a monster for seemingly little to no reason), and even pushing us to believe she might not have been the true monster in the story, but rather, Seiichi himself. And they also make us believe everyone is more or less responsible for that. To put in quote, they make us understand that nothing really happens because of someone, but rather, everything happens because of everyone and everything. Some moments were very psychological, some were phylosophical, and really, it just felt natural and possibly even more terrifying to me.

hey dude I love your anime in minutes videos. I suggest one for Shin Sekai Yori (From the New World). Just make them when you feel like it. The chill format works for manga.
I liked the work, but for me it was a disappointment from the middle to the end. The author addresses, in addition to the psychological abuse, very subtle nuances of abuse by the mother towards her son, sometimes forcing a kiss. The author did not cross the line into incest, but he came very close to it. There was even a scene of Seiichi's son in the shower and his mother, Seiko, staring through the glass of the shower. For me, the manga was good until chapters 107 to 108. The mother despises and abandons him after he is convicted of Shigeru's murder, throwing several emotional burdens at Seiichi and abandoning him. His adult life is boring and dull. I did not see Seiichi's son and his mother Seiko washing their dirty laundry, putting their feelings out on clean plates. I found the ending a huge disappointment. I expected more from the work, but it's worth reading because of chapters 1 to 108. From 109 to the end, it's boring, without development, the depression of a son destroyed by his psychopathic mother. A curiosity. Few people have noticed, but in Japan, when a woman ends a romantic relationship, the woman cuts her hair short, symbolizing the end of the romantic relationship and involvement, but she is the boy's mother. In chapters 107 and 108, you can see this, she sees her son beyond the maternal aspect. The lesson I learn from this work is that an abusive mother or father can destroy a person for their entire life. Seiichi lost the girlfriend of his life, his life was destroyed because of his mother, a tragedy called seiko, and there are many other seikos around the world in real life.
