Please give me insight here: If Elizabeth recognized Mary to be "the mother of my Lord," wouldn't John have been told by his mother who Jesus was? At what age would he have left his parents and gone into the wilderness to begin studying with the Essenes? In addition, in Mt. 11 when John sends his disciples to Jesus, was this really for their own benefit, since John knew the answer already? As you stated, John was beginning his own passion, so was this his way of transferring his own followers to Jesus?
