Sensei Yamada had a seminar in Sheffield many years ago and we learned this kata. It took myself and my good friend months to get this down! This is absolutely fantastic to watch! Power, precision, technique!
Really great execution, great speed, power and focus. I do NOT like the current timing used in tournaments these days, it robs the kata of its spirit. I know that this is how they are taught ... for tournament performance. One issue is that the for did not begin and end in the same place.
Ending at a different location is not an issue, it's just like it is with Suparinpei. I believe it's the only Kata in Goju Ryu that's not ending at the same spot.
Your natural centre is the Kiten, it travels with you therefore you always finish in the same place. For me its just a myth starting and ending in the same spot. 59.years in Karate.
Absolutely incredible absolutely beautifully done wow factor Beyond belief. I cannot wait to learn it hopefully I could do it 10% as well as I'm seeing it here

I recognise the Keio cross nibs. I had a group from Keio train with me in the 90s. I was given a tie commeroating the new karate and wrestling gymnasium.
You can't return to the start position due to the embusen of the kata. Sanseiru is the same. This is not a Shotokan kata. No one cares if you return to the start position except in a dojo where this is emphasized. Shotokan Chinte requires you to do three backward hops to end at the start point. It is a ridiculous movement that is not found in the original Okinawan kata. Shotokan screwed up the embusen in the past and will never remedy it because they would have to admit they messed it up.
@Real AiglonWho uses 'Lol!' over the age of 12? You state no one messed up. The JKA 'messed up' when they decided to introduce Chinte into Shotokan. Funakoshi did not originally include Chinte in his book, Karate-do Kyohan with the original 19 kata. Chinte is practiced in Shorin-ryu and in Shito-ryu. Both their versions of Chinte do not need to perform three hops to finish where they start. The embusen that they use naturally brings them back to the starting spot. No hopping necessary. The messed up part, the bunny hops, is the emphasis on the deep Shotokan zenkutsu-dachi stance itself. The two ending forward strikes in zenkutsu-dachi are the reason you end up so far from the starting point. And because of the need to end up as close to the start position due to Shotokan's competition rules, well let's add three bunny hops at the end and come up with stupid excuses as to why. Trying to say that they forgot the kata is ridiculous because the Shorin schools were performing Chinte as was Shito-ryu. Here is Ohta showing how to do Chinte. ruclips.net/video/Jyf0CLxO66U/видео.html Watch as he hops backward at the end. What is he doing as he hops back? He is looking at the floor the entire time to see if he got back to his starting position. In this version, ruclips.net/video/zuvBapRnndI/видео.html The turn and then hiji-ate in neko ashi and then a step forward again in neko ashi and a forward punch. A step back into finish and end of kata, guess what! Right back at the start position! Lol! Funakoshi was a contemporary with Mabuni of Shito-ryu and any number of Okinawan Shorin-ryu sensei, so Shotokan could clearly have checked their version with the original Okinawan versions. Any time I have seen the bunkai for those hops, I have just shaken my head at how stupid the they are. Generally it is supposedly a joint manipulation, wrist, elbow...and that hopping or jumping while applying the lock is to give power to that technique. Neither Aikido or jujutsu teaches this. But karate instructors with no Aikido or jujutsu training will try and say this is so.
Yes. The concept of a kata ending where it begin is basically a shotokan thing. If you look at the kata found in shito-ryu, goju-ryu, shorin-ryu, etc. they rarely begin and end in the same spot. Take Chinte for example. The shotokan version ends with three hops backwards to get you back to where you begin. In the Okinawan version you finish at the part before the hops in the shotokan version. So it is believed that the hop were added to follow the "rule". In the shotokan versions of suparinpei (hyakuhachiho) at least the ones I've seen, none of them end where they begin.
@Real Aiglon some people think that some katas should start and end at the same place, while others kata not. I understand that Pechurrin belongs to the first group, so this exponent is not doing it well. But, you know... today's karate is a totally different thing of what it used to be (to-de, okinawa-te, karate-do)... it's a shame.
@Real Aiglon I understand that the suparimpei that you know does that; mine doesn't, mine finishes in the same sport. today there are way to much washed versions of the same original katas, i think its original value has been lost :(
It is beautiful, as a show. Ossu! Still, it is SOOOOOO technical and dead. move from block to attack with spirit? Start and finish in the same spot? (My humble opinion)
so she's doing the Shito-ryu version. There's really no purpose in doing any other karate style at this point, it seems, westerners seem to just like the speed of Shito-ryu because it sounds intense when they move, and so this is why karate is failing.
Flawless body mechanics, but the Kiai bothers me. I was taught that the Kiai comes from way down in your diaphragm, not from up in your throat. I guess that's the fashion these days.
